After approximately 30
minutes has elapsed
with the operation mode
in ACC, the function
automatically cuts out the power for the audio system and other electr
ic devices that can be
operated with that mode. When the engine switch is pressed while the operation mode is in AC
C, the power is sup-
plied again to those devices.
CAUTION When the engine is not running, put the oper- ation mode in OFF. Leaving the operationmode in ON or ACC for a long time whenthe engine is not running may cause the bat- tery to be discharged, making it impossible to start the engine. When the battery is disconnected, the current operation mode is memo
rized. After recon-
necting the battery, the memorized mode is selected automaticall
y. Before disconnect-
ing the battery for re
pair or replacement,
make sure to put the operation mode in OFF. Be careful if you are not sure which opera- tion mode the vehicle is in when the batteryis run down. The operation mode cannot be changed from OFF to ACC or ON if the F.A.S.T.-key is not detected to be in the
vehicle. Refer to “Oper-
ating range for star
ting the engine and
changing the operation mode” on page 5-17. When there is the F.A.S.T.-key in the vehicle and the operation mode
is not changed, the
battery in the F.A.S.T.-key may have worn out.Refer to “Warning acti
vation” on page 5-22.
NOTE
If the operation mode
cannot be changed to
OFF, perform the following procedure. 1. Move the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position, and then change the operation mode to OFF.
2. One of the other causes could be low bat- tery voltage. If this
occurs, the keyless
entry system, the F.A.S.T.-key operationand steering wheel lock (if so equipped) will also not operate. Contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer.
ACC power auto-cutout function
NOTE
It is possible to modify functions as follows: • The time until the power cuts out can be changed to approximately 60 minutes. • The ACC power auto
-cutout function can
be deactivated.NOTE
For details, we reco
mmend you to consult an
authorized Mitsubish

NOTE
When the following operation is performed with the operation mode in OFF and theselector lever is in
the “P” (PARK) position,
the steering wheel is locked. • Open or close one of the doors. (except the liftgate) • Lock all the doors and the liftgate by using the F.A.S.T.-key operation or the remote control transmitter of the F.A.S.T.-key.
When the driver’s door is opened while the steering wheel does not lock, warning dis-play will appear a

alert the steering
wheel is unlocked.
To unlock
WA R N I N GIf the engine is stopped while driving, do not open a door or
press the LOCK switch
on the remote control switch until the vehicle stops in a safe
place. This could
cause the steering wheel to lock, making it impossible to operate the vehicle.CAUTION Carry the F.A.S.T.-key with you when leav- ing the vehicle. If your vehicle needs to be towed, put the operation mode in ACC to unlock the steer- ing wheel.
NOTE

After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditio
ning blower and rear
window defogger, are turned off.2. While depressing the brake pedal, press the accelerator peda
l halfway and hold it
there, then crank th
e engine. Release the
accelerator pedal, immediately after the engine starts.
3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline. While depressing the brake pedal, push the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it there, then press the engineswitch to crank the engine. If the engine does not start after 5 to 6 seconds, push the engine switch
to stop cranking the
engine, and release th
e accelerator pedal.
Put the operation mode in OFF. Wait a few seconds, and then press the engine switch to crank the engine again while depressing the brake pedal, but do notpush the accelerator
pedal. If the engine
fails to start, repeat
these procedures. If
the engine still will
not start, contact your
local Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choi
ce for assistance.
Startability of the engine with an ambient temperature of -22 °F (-30 °C) or lowerWhen the ambient temperature is -22 °F (-30 °C) or lower, it may not be possible to start from a standstill even with the selector leverin the “D” (DRIVE) or “R” (REVERSE) position. This phenomenon occurs because the trans-axle has not warmed up sufficiently; it does not indicate a problem.
If this occurs, place
the selector lever in the “P” (PARK) positionand let the engine idle for at least 10 minutes.
The transaxle will wa
rm up, and you will be
able to start normally.Do not leave the vehicle during warm-up operation. The MIVEC engine automatically switches its intake-valve control between a low-speed mode and a high-speed mode in accordance with driving conditions for maximum engine performance.

NOTE
Minor noises may be heard on engine start- up. These will disappear as the engine warmsup.

Stopping the engine
WA R N I N GDo not operate the en
gine switch while
driving except in an emergency. If theengine is stopped while driving, the brake servomechanism will ce
ase to function and
braking efficiency will deteriorate. Also, the power steering system will not func- tion and it will require greater manual effort to operate the steering. This couldresult in a serious accident.

This position locks the transaxle to prevent the vehicle from moving.
The engine can be
started in the “P” (PARK) position. Move the lever to this position only after the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
At this position, the transaxle is disengaged. It is the same as the neutral position on a manual transaxle and should be used whenthe vehicle is not m
oving for an extended
length of time during driving, such as in a traffic jam. This position is used for most city and high- way driving. The transaxle will automatically change its gear depe
nding on road and driv-
ing conditions.
This position is for dr
iving up very steep hills
and for engine braking at low speeds when driving down steep hills.
N00514401485
While the vehicle is stopped or being driven with the selector lever in the “D” (DRIVE) or“L” (LOW) position, sports mode can be selected by pulling one of the sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter towards you.
NOTE
The selector lever posi
tion display blinks at
the time of the warning display or the warning display appears. The “A” display on the selector lever posi- tion display will blink only when there is a problem with the automatic transaxle posi- tion switch.
Selector lever positions
“P” PARK
“R” REVERSE
CAUTION Never shift into the “P” (PARK) or “R” (REVERSE) position while the vehicle is in motion. If the lever is shifted into the “P” (PARK) or “R” (REVERSE) position whilethe vehicle is in moti
on, the transaxle may be
damaged.
“N” NEUTRAL
WA R N I N G Never move the selector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position while driving since you could accidentally slip it into the “P” (PARK) or “R” (REVERSE) position, damaging the transaxle. To prevent the vehicle from rolling when stopped on a slope,
the engine should be
started in the “P” (PARK) position, not in “N” (NEUTRAL) position. To prevent rolling, always keep your foot on the brake pedal when the vehicle is in“N” (NEUTRAL) positi
on, or when shift-
ing into or out of
“N” (NEUTRAL) posi-
tion.
“D” DRIVE
CAUTION To prevent transaxle damage, never shift into the “D” (DRIVE) position from the “R”(REVERSE) position while the vehicle is inmotion.
“L” LOW
WA R N I N G This position can be used for maximum engine braking.Be very careful not to shift into “L” (LOW) suddenly. Sudden engine braking may cause thetires to skid. Select this position according to the road conditions and vehicle speed.
