signed to inflate only on
the side of the vehicle that is impacted, even with no passenger in the front seat. A label is attached to the seatbacks in vehi- cles equipped with side airbags.
WA R N I N G Do not attach accessories to, or put them in front of, the windshield. They couldrestrict the airbag inflation, or strike and injure an occupant
, when the airbag
inflates. Do not attach addition
al keys or accesso-
ries (hard, pointed or
heavy objects) to the
ignition key. Such objects could prevent the driver’s knee ai
rbag from inflating
normally or could be propelled to causeserious injury if
the airbag inflates.

WA R N I N G Do not attempt to remove, install, disas- semble or repair the SRS airbags. Do not place objects,

em will be hot. Do
not touch them. You could otherwise be burned. The airbag system is designed to work only once. After the
airbags deploy, they
will not work again. They must promptly be replaced and the
entire airbag system

ag, do not allow any
rear seat passengers to hold onto the back of either front seat. Special care should betaken with children. Do not place any obje
cts around the area
where the side airbags deploy. Such objects can interfere with proper side air- bag deployment, and cause injury duringdeployment of the side airbag. Do not place stickers,
labels or additional
trim on the back of either front seat. They can interfere with proper side airbag deployment.
 Do not attach a microphone (A) or any other object around the part where thecurtain airbag deploys
, such as on the
windshield, side door glass or front and rear pillars and roof
side rail. When the
curtain airbag inflates

other object may be
hurled with great

While carrying the F.A.S.T.-key, press thedriver’s door lock/unlock switch (A) within the operating range to lock all the doors and trunk lid.The turn signal lights will blink once and the buzzer will sound once. Also refer to “Doors locks”, “Power door locks” and “Trunk lid” on pages 5-25, 5-27and 5-28 respectively.

 Only the F.A.S.T.-key that is detectable by the doors and the trunk lid can lock and unlock the doors and open the trunk lid.  The system may not operate if the F.A.S.T.- key is too close to th

dows or trunk lid.  Even if the F.A.S.T.-key is within about 2.3 feet (70 cm) of the driver’s door lock/unlockswitch or the trunk lid open switch, the sys- tem may not operate if the key is close to the ground or in a high position.  If the F.A.S.T.-key is within the operating range, even a person not carrying theF.A.S.T.-key can lock and unlock the doors or open the trunk lid by pressing the driver’s door lock/unlock switch
or the trunk lid open

The windshield wiper and washer can be operated with the ignition switch or the oper- ation mode is in ON or ACC.If the blades are frozen to the windshield, do not operate the wipers
until the ice has melted
and the blades are freed, otherwise the wiper motor may be damaged. With the lever in the “INT” (speed sensitive intermittent operation) position, the intermit- tent intervals can be adjusted by turning theknob (A).
The misting function can be used when the ignition switch or the
operation mode is in
ON or ACC. The wipers will operate once if the wiper lever is raised to the “MIST” position andreleased. This operation
is useful when it is
drizzling, etc. The wi
pers will continue to
operate while the lever is held in the “MIST”position.
 If the light switch is rotated to the “OFF” or “ ” position while the
front fog lights are
illuminated, they will automatically turn off.They can be turned back on again by rotating the combination headlights and dimmer switch back to “ ” position, and turning the knob in the direction of the “ON” posi-tion.  Do not use fog lights ex
cept in conditions of
fog, otherwise excessive light glare may temporarily blind oncoming vehicle drivers.

CAUTION If the washer is used
in cold weather, the
washer fluid sprayed against the glass mayfreeze, which may hinder visibility. Warm the glass with the defroster before using the washer.

The rear window defogger can be used when the engine is running. The indicator light (A) will come on when you press the electric rear window defoggerswitch. Electric current will flow through the heating wires on the rear window to help clear away moisture or frost.

Precautions to observe when using wipers and washers
CAUTION If the washer is used in cold weather, washer fluid sprayed onto the glass might freeze, blocking your view. Heat
the glass with the
defroster before using the washer.NOTE
 Do not use the wipers when the windshield is dry. This could scratch the glass and wear the wiper blades prematurely.  Before using the wipe
rs in cold weather,
check to be sure that the wiper blades are notfrozen to the windshield. Using the wipers while the blades are frozen could cause the wiper motor to burn out.  If the moving wipers
become blocked part-
way through a sweep by ice or other depositson the glass, the wipers may temporarily stop operating to prevent the motor from over- heating. In this case, park the vehicle in asafe place, turn the ignition switch to the“OFF” position or put
the operation mode in
OFF, and then remove the ice or other depos- its.Because the wipers will
start operating again
after the wiper motor cools down, check that the wipers operate before using them.
 Avoid using the washer for more than 20 sec- onds at a time. Do not operate the washerwhen the washer fluid reservoir is empty orthe pump may fail.  During cold weather, add a recommended washer solution that will not freeze in the washer fluid reservoir. Otherwise the washer may not work or may be damaged.  Replace the wiper blades when they are worn. Use the proper size replacementblades. For further info

For a safer and more enjoyable trip, always check for the following:
 Before starting the ve
hicle, make certain
that you and all passengers are seated and wearing their seat belts properly (with children in the rear seat, in appropriaterestraints), and that all the doors are locked.  Move the driver’s seat as far backward as possible, while keeping good visibility, and good control of the steering wheel, brakes, accelerator, and controls. Check the instrument panel indicators and multi- information display for any possible prob-lem.  Similarly, the front
passenger seat should
also be moved as fa
r back as possible.
 Make sure that infants and small children are properly restrained in accordance with all laws and regulations.

and set the blower switch on high. You shouldbe able to feel the air blowing against the windshield. Refer to “Defrosti

shield, door windows)” on page 7-9.

 The shape of the mat and the number of retaining clips may

wrong size or is not
properly installed, it can interfere with the operation of the pedals. Interference with the pedals can cause unintended accelera-tion and/or increase

h and injury. Always
make sure the floor mat does not interferewith the accelerator or brake pedal. Always use the retaining clip on the driver’s floorboard to secure the floor mat. Always install the mat with the correct side facing down. Never install a second mat over or under an existing floor mat. Do not use a floor mat designed for another model vehicle even if it is a Mitsubishi Motors Genuine floor mat. Before driving, be sure to check the fol- lowing:• Periodically check that the floor mat is properly secured with the retaining clips.
