 If a problem is detected in the air condition- ing compressor, the “ ” indicator blinks. Press the air conditioning switch once to turn it off, then once more to turn it back on. If the“ ” indicator does not blink, there is no problem. If it does blink, have it checkedat an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.  For example, sometimes after using a high- pressure car wash, the condenser can get wet, and the “ ” indicator blinks temporarily. Wait for a while, press the air conditioning switch once to turn the system off, then once more to turn it back on. Once the water evap- orates, the blinking will stop.


FM signals do not follow the earth surface nor are they reflected by the upper atmo- sphere. For this reason, FM broadcasts cannot be received over long distances. AM signalsfollow the earth’s surface and are reflected by the upper atmosphere. For this reason, AM broadcasts can be received over longer dis-tances.
Because of the limited
range of FM signals
and the way FM waves transmit, you mayexperience weak or fading FM reception. When the broadcast is blocked by mountains or similar obstructions, reception can be dis-turbed. The reason why one can hear FM but not AM in parking garages, under bridges etc., is thatFM signals, unlike AM signals, are reflected by solid objects such as buildings, etc. Because FM signals are easily reflected bybuildings, this can also cause reception dis- turbances. The direct signal from the broadcast stationreaches the antenna slightly before the reflected signal. This time difference may cause some reception disturbance or flutter.This problem occurs primarily in urban areas.
If one listens to a weak station and is in the vicinity of another strong station, both sta- tions might be received simultaneously.

The compact spare tire is stored under the luggage floor board of the luggage compart-ment. It is designed to save space in the lug- gage compartment. Its lighter weight makes it easier to use if a flat tire occurs.

WA R N I N G Tires, including the spare tire, degrade over time with age even when they are notbeing used. It is recommended that tires over 6 years old generally be replaced even if damage is not obvious.CAUTION While the compact spare tire is stowed, the inflation pressure should be checked at least once a month to assure that it remains at therecommended inflation pressure. See the tire and loading information placard attached to the driver’s door sill. Refer to “Tire and load- ing information placard” on page 11-3.
 Driving with an improperly inflated tire can cause an accident. If you have no choice but to drive with an under-inflated tire, keep your speed down and avoid sudden steering or braking, if possible
. Inflate the tire to the
correct pressure as soon as possible. Refer to “Tire inflation pressures” on page 9-15. The compact spare tire should be used only temporarily. While the compact spare tire is being used, the tire pressure monitoring sys-tem will not function properly. Have the tire replaced or repaired at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facilityof your choice as soon as possible. Do not go over 50 mph (80 km/h) when driv- ing with the compact spare tire. Avoid sudden starting and braking when driving with the compact spare tire. Do not drive through automatic car washes and over obstacles that could possibly dam- age the underside of your vehicle. Because the compact spare tire is smaller than theoriginal tire, there is less clearance between the ground and your vehicle. Because the compact spare tire is designed only for your vehicle, do not use it on any other vehicle. Do not put the compact spare tire on a differ- ent wheel, and do not put standard tires, snow tires, wheel covers or trim rings on the compact spare tire. Otherwise, you coulddamage these parts or other parts on your vehicle.CAUTION
 Do not use tire chains with your compact spare tire. Using a chain could cause damage to your vehicle and loss of the chains.

5. Remove the wheel nuts with the wheel nut wrench, then take the wheel off.
6. Clean out any mud, etc. on the hub sur- face (F), hub bolts (G) or in the installa- tion holes (H) in the wheel, and then mount the spare tire.
7. Turn the wheel nut clockwise by hand to initially tighten them. Temporarily tighten the wheel nuts by hand until the flange parts of the wheelnuts make light contact with the wheel and the wheel is not loose.
WA R N I N G Stop jacking up the vehicle as soon as the tire is raised off the ground. It is danger- ous to raise the vehicle any higher. Do not get under your vehicle while using the jack. Do not bump the raised vehicle or leave it sitting on the jack for a long time. Both are very dangerous. Do not use a jack except the one that came with your vehicle. The jack should not be used for any pur- pose other than to change a tire. No one should be in your vehicle when using the jack. Do not start or run the engine while your vehicle is on the jack. Do not turn the raised wheel. The tires that are still on the ground could turn and make your vehicle fall off the jack.CAUTION Handle the wheel carefully when changing the tire, to avoid scratching the wheel sur- face.
WA R N I N G Mount the spare tire with the valve stem (I) facing outward. If you cannot see the valve stem (I), you have installed the wheel backwards.Operating the vehicle with the spare tire installed backwards can cause vehicle damage and result in an accident.
NOTE
 Flange nuts can be temporarily used on the compact spare tire as shown in the illustra- tion, but return to the original wheel and tire as soon as possible.

Mitsubishi Motors recommends using only engine oils with the ILSAC certification sym- bol on the front of the container. If you cannot find oils with the ILSAC certi- fication symbol, use an API classification SN oil with the following label.
This mark appears on the top of the oil con- tainer and tells you two important things about the oil. Use engine oil with the proper thickness for the outdoor temperatures where you will bedriving.

The fluid level falls slightly with wear of the brake pads, but this does not indicate anyabnormality. If the fluid level falls markedly in a short length of time, it indicates leaks from thebrake system. If this occurs, have the vehicle checked by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or arepair facility of your choice. Use the recommended brake fluid conform- ing to DOT 3 or DOT 4. The reservoir capmust be tightly sealed to keep dirt and water out.

The condition of the battery is very important for quick starting and to keep the vehicle’selectrical system working properly. Check the battery regularly. If battery performance is suspect, have the battery and charging system tested by an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice. The electrolyte level must be between the limits shown on the outside of the battery. Fill it with distilled water as needed. The inside ofthe battery is divided into several compart- ments. Take the cap off of each compartment and fill to the mark.Do not fill above the top line because a spill during driving could cause damage.

 Economy The wrong tire pressure can cause uneven wear patterns in the tire tread. These abnormal wear patterns will reduce thetread life, and the tire will have to be replaced sooner. Too little pressure also makes it harder forthe tire to roll, and this uses up more fuel.  Ride comfort and vehicle stability The superior riding experience built intoyour vehicle partly depends on the correcttire pressure. Too much pressure gives an uncomfortable and jarring ride. Too little pressure feels as if your vehicle is slow torespond. Unequal tire pressures can make steering your vehicle uneven and unpredictable.
The tire pressure for your vehicle under nor- mal driving conditions is listed on the placard attached to the driver’s door sill. (Refer to “Tire and loading information plac-ard” on page 11-3.) The recommended infl
ation pressures under
normal driving conditions should be used forthe tires listed below.
Tire pressures should be checked, and adjusted if necessary, at least once a month. Pressures should be checked more often whenever weather temperatures changeseverely, because tire pressures change with outdoor temperatures. The pressures listed are always “cold inflation pressure”.Cold inflation pressure is measured after the vehicle has been parked for at least three hours or is driven less than 1 mile (1.6 km)after having been parked for three hours.Cold inflation pressure must not go above the maximum values molded into the tire side- wall. After driving several miles, your tireinflation pressure may increase 2 to 6 psi (14 to 41 kPa) from the cold inflation pressure. Do not let air out of the tires to get back to thespecified cold pressure, or your tires will be too low. Check your tires each time you refuel. If onetire looks lower than the others, check the pressure for all of them. You should also take the following safety pre-cautions:
 Keep your tires inflated to the recom- mended pressures. (See the tire and load- ing information placard attached to the driver’s door sill.) Stay within the recommended load limits.  Make sure that the weight of any load in your vehicle is evenly distributed. Drive at safe speeds.  After filling your tires to the correct pres- sure, check them for damage and airleaks. Be sure to reinstall the caps on thevalve stems.

Refer to “Tires and wheels” on page 11-7. On all-wheel drive vehicles, always use tires of the same size, same type, and same brand, and which have no wear differences. Usingtires that differ in size, type, brand or the degree of wear, will increase the differential oil temperature, resulting in possible damage to the driving system. Further, the drive train will be subjected to excessive loading, possi-bly leading to oil leakage, component sei- zure, or other serious problems.
