Start theve hicle using the smartphone.
Af tereve ryengine start, the engine runs for
te n minu tes.
Yo u can car ryout a maximum of two consecu‐
tive starting attem pts. Yo u must start theve hicle
once with theke y before trying tostart the
engine again with the smartphone. you can stop
th eve hicle again at any time.
% Further information can be found in the
smartphone app.
Securing the engine against starting before
car rying out maintenance or repair work: #
switch on the hazard warning light sy stem.
or #
unlock the doors.
or #
open a side window or the sliding sunroof. Ru
nning-in no tes To
preser vethe engine during thefirs t15 00 km:
R drive at varying road speeds and engine
speeds. R
do not drive at speeds greater than
14 0 km/h.
R drive theve hicle in drive program A
or ;.
R shift tothe next highest gear at theve ry lat‐
est when the needle reaches the last third
before there d area in there v counter.
R do not shift down a gear manually in order to
brake.
R avoidove rstraining theve hicle, e.g. driving at
full thro ttle.
R do not depress the accelera tor pedal past
th e pressure point (kickdown).
R only increase the engine speed gradually and
accelera tetheve hicle tofull speed af ter
15 00 km.
This also applies when the engine or parts of the
driv etra in ha vebeen replaced.
Please also obser vethefo llowing running-in
no tes:
R in cer tain driving and driving saf ety sy stems,
th e sensors adjust automatically while a cer‐
ta in dis tance is being driven af terth eve hicle has been delivered or af
terre pairs. Full sys‐
te m ef fectiveness is not reached until the
end of this teach-in process.
R brakepads, brake discs and tyres that are
either new or ha vebeen replaced only ach‐
ie ve optimum braking ef fect and grip af ter
se veral hundred kilom etre s of driving. Com‐
pensate forth ere duced braking ef fect by
applying greaterfo rc eto the brake pedal. Note
s on optimised acceleration If all necessary
requ irements and activation con‐
ditions are fulfilled, the best possible accelera‐
tion can be achie ved from a standstill.
Do not use the optimised acceleration on public
ro ads. Individual wheels could spin and you
could lose control of theve hicle. There is an
increased risk of skidding and/or accident.
Be sure toobser vethe saf ety no tes and informa‐
tion on ESP ®
(/ page 222). Driving and parking

Note
s on driving on salt-treated roads
The braking ef fect is limited on salt-trea ted
ro ads.
Therefore, obse rveth efo llowing no tes:
R due tosalt build-up on the brake disks and
brakepads, the braking dis tance can increase
considerab lyor result in braking only on one
side
R maintain a much greater safe dis tance tothe
ve hicle in front
To remo vesalt build-up:
R brake occasionally while paying attention to
th e tra ffic conditions
R carefully depress the brake pedal at the end
of the journey and when starting the next
journey
Note s on aquaplaning
Aq uaplaning can take place once a cer tain
amount of water has accumulated on thero ad
sur face. Obser
vethefo llowing no tes during heavy precip‐
itation or in conditions in which aquaplaning may
occur:
R reduce speed
R avoid tyre ruts
R avoid sudden steering mo vements
R brake carefully
% Also obser vethe no tes on regular lych ecking
wheels and tyres (/ page 383).
Note s on driving through water on the road
sur face
Wa ter which has entered into theve hicle can
damage the engine, electrics and transmission.
Wa ter can also enter the air intake of the engine
and cause engine damage.
Obser vethefo llowing if you must drive thro ugh
wate r:
R The water, when calm, may only reach the
lo we r edge of theve hicle body.
R Drive at a maximum speed of 10km/h;
wate r can otherwise enter theve hicle interior
or engine compartment. R
Vehicles tr avelling in front, or oncoming vehi‐
cles, can create waves which may exceed the
maximum permissible dep thofthewate r.
The braking ef fect of the brakes is reduced af ter
fo rd ing. Brake carefully while paying attention to
th e tra ffic conditions until braking po wer has
been fully restored. Fu
nction of rear axle steering The
rear axle steering is an electromechanical
auxiliary steering on there ar axle which adjusts
th esteering of there ar wheels according tothe
position of the front wheels, depending on the
speed. This results in greater manoeuvrability
and impr oved driving stabilit y,e.g. when corner‐
ing.
Re ar axle steering has thefo llowing characteris‐
tics:
R reduced steering ef fort and turning circle
re sulting in reduced parking ef fort
R impr oved driving stabilit y,e.g. when corner‐
ing Driving and parking

Alw ays switch off the windscreen wip‐
ers and the ignition before cleaning the
windscreen or wiper blades. &
WARNING Risk of bu rns from theta il‐
pipe and tailpipe trims
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of theve hicle, you could
burn yourself. #
Alw ays be particular lycareful around
th eta ilpipe and theta ilpipe trims and
supervise children especially closely in
th is area. #
Allow vehicle parts tocool down before
to uching them. To
avo id damage totheve hicle, obser vethe
no tes on cleaning and care of thefo llowing vehi‐
cle parts:
Wheels and rims
R Use wate r and acid-free alloy wheel cleaners.R
Do not use acidic alloy wheel cleaners to
re mo vebrake dust. This could damage wheel
bolts and brake components.
R Toavo id cor rosion of the brake disks and
brakepads, drive theve hicle for a few
minutes af ter cleaning before parking it. The
brake disks and brakepads warm up and dry
out.
Wi ndo ws
R Clean the windo wsinside and outside with a
damp clo thand with a cleaning agent recom‐
mended for Mercedes-Benz.
R Do not use dry clo ths or abrasive or sol vent-
based cleaning agents toclean the inside of
windo ws.
% Remo veextern al fogging or dirt on the wind‐
screen in front of the multifunction camera.
Otherwise, driving sy stems and driving
saf ety sy stems may be impaired or not avail‐
able (/ page 220).
Wi per blades
R Movethe wiper arms into there placement
position (/ page165). R
With th e wiper arms folded out, clean the
wiper blades with a damp clo th.
R Do not clean the wiper blades too of ten.
Ex terior lighting
R Clean the lenses with a wet sponge and mild
cleaning agent, e.g. car sha mpoo.
R Only use cleaning agents or cleaning clo ths
th at are suitable for plast ic lenses.
Sensors
R Clean the sensors in the front and rear
bumpers with a soft clo thand car shampoo
(/ page 220).
R When using a high-pressure cleaner, main tain
a minimum dis tance of 30 cm.
Re versing camera and 360° Camera
R Open the camera co ver with the multimedia
sy stem (/ page 267).
R Use clean water and a soft clo thtoclean the
came ralens.
R Do not use a high-pressure cleaner. Maintenance and care
