nction of Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
Pa rking Assist PARKTRONIC is an electronic
parking assi stance sy stem. It monitors the area
around your vehicle using multiple sensors on
th e front bumper and on there ar bumper
(/ page 127). Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
sho wsyouth e dis tance between your vehicle
and a de tected obs tacle visually and audibly.
Pa rking Assist PARKTRONIC is on lyan aid. It is
not a substitute foryo ur attention tothe sur‐
ro undings. The responsibility for safe manoeu‐
vring and parking remains with you. Make sure
th at there are no persons, animals or objects in
th e manoeuvring area while manoeuvring and
parking in/exiting parking spaces. Pa

If
Pa rking Assist PARKTRONIC de tects an obs ta‐
cle in the path of theve hicle, a pop-up window
with the appropriate warning display appears in
th e media display at speeds below appr ox‐
imately 10km/h.
The colou red segments show the dis tance
between the sensors and the obs tacle de tected:
1 Yellow warning displa y:obs tacles at a dis‐
ta nce between appr ox. 0.6 m and 1.0 m

When Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is operational
and no object is de tected, no segments are
shown in thewa rning displa y.

If Pa rking Assist PARKTRONIC is deacti vated,

thest andard setting, an intermit tent wa rning
to ne sounds from a di stance of appr oximately
0.3 m toan obs tacle in front and appr oximately
1. 0 m toan obs tacle behind. A continuous warn‐
ing tone sounds from a di stance of appr ox‐
imately 0.2 m. Using theWa rnear lysetting, you
can set thewa rning tone in the multimedia sys‐
te m so that it will sound earlier at a greater dis‐
ta nce of appr oximately 1.0 m (/ page147).
% The Warnear lysetting is alw ays active in

Sy stem limits
Pa rking Assist PARKTRONIC does not necessa‐
ri ly take into account thefo llowing obs tacles:
R Obs tacles bel ow the detection range, e.g.
pe rsons, animals or objects.
R Obs tacles ab oveth e de tection range, e.g.
ove rhanging loads, overhangs or loading
ra mp s of lor ries.
As a result of additional accessories (e.g. licence
plate brac ket or bicycle rack )th e actual dis tance
to an obs tacle may not cor respond tothe dis‐ ta
nce measu redby Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
under ce rtain conditions.
The sensors must be free of dirt, ice and slush.
Otherwise, they may not function cor rectly.
Clean the sensors regularly, taking care not to
scratch or damage them.

stem limits
The cameras will not function or will only parti‐
ally function in thefo llowing situations:
R There is heavy rain, snow or fog.
R The light conditions are poor, e.g. at night.
R The respective camera lens is obstructed,
dirty or mis ted up. Obser vethe no tes on
cleaning the cameras (/ page 293).
R Cameras, or vehicle components in which
th e cameras are fitted, are dama ged. In this
eve nt, ha vethe cameras, their positions and
th eir setting checked at a qualified specialist
wo rkshop.
The field of vision and other functions of the
re ve rsing camera may be restricted due toaddi‐
tional accesso ries (e.g. licence plate brac ket or
bicycle rack ).
% The display contrast may be impaired due to
incident sunlight or other light sources. In
th is case, pay particular attention.
% Have the display repaired or replaced if, for
ex ample, pixel er rors considerably restrict its

Tr af fic Sign Assi stdetects traf fic signs wi th a
multifunction camera. It assist syo uby display‐
ing de tected speed limits and overtaking restric‐
tions in the instrument clus ter.
Obser vethe no tes on driving sy stems and your
re sponsibility; you may otherwise failto recog‐
nise dangers (/ page 126).
Since Traf fic Sign Assi stalso uses the data
st ored in the navigation sy stem, it can update
th e display in thefo llowing situations without
de tecting traf fic signs.
If th e sy stem de tects that you are driving on to a
section of road in the wrong direction of trave l, it
triggers a warning.
The camera also de tects traf fic signs wi th a
re striction indicated byan additional sign (e.g.
when wet). %
Traf fic signs are only displ ayed with the
re striction indicated byan additional sign in
th efo llowing cases:
R The traf fic signs must be obser ved with
th ere striction.
R The sy stem is unable toclearly de term ine
whe ther there striction applies.
Wa rning when the maximum permissible
speed is exceeded
The sy stem can warnyou if you unin tentional ly
ex ceed the maximum permissible speed. Todo
th is, you can specify in the multimedia sy stem
by how much the maximum permissible speed
can be exceeded before a warning is issued. Yo u
can specify whe ther thewa rning is tobe just a
visual warning or an acoustic one as well. Driving and parking

If Blind Spot Assist is activated,

speeds of up to30 km/h. Atspeeds abo ve
appr oximately 30 km/h, thewa rning lamp goes
out and Blind Spot Assist is operational.
If a vehicle is de tected with inthe monitoring
ra nge at speeds ab ove30 km/h, thewa rning
lamp in theex terior mir ror lights up red.
If a vehicle is de tected close to yourvehicle in
th e lateral monitoring range and you swit chon
th e turn signal indicator in the cor responding
direction, a warning tone sounds once and the
wa rning lamp in theex terior mir rorflashes red. If
th e turn signal indicator remains switched on, all
ot her de tected vehicles are indicated only bythe
fl ashing of there dwa rning lamp.

WARNING Risk of accident despite Blind
Spot Assi st
Blind Spot Assi stdoes not react tovehicles
approaching and overtaking you at a greatly
di fferent speed. Blind Spot Assist cann

Alw ays pay careful attention tothe traf‐
fi c situation and maintain a safe dis‐
ta nce at the side of theve hicle. Blind Spot Assist is only an aid. It may
failto
de tect some vehicles and is not a substitute for
attentive driving. Alw ays ensure that there is suf‐
fi cient dist ancetothe side forot her road users
and obs tacles.
Sy stem limits
The sy stem may be limited in thefo llowing situa‐
tions:
R The sensors are dirty or co vered.
R Poor visibility, e.g. due tofog, heavy rain,
snow or spr ay.
R Narrow vehicles, e.g. bicycles, are within the
monitoring range.
R Ifth e lanes are very nar row or very wide,
especially if vehicles are not driving in the
middle of their lane. Wa
rnings may be issued in er ror when driving
close tocrash barr iers or similar continuous lane
borders. Warnings may be inter rupte d when driv‐
ing alongside long vehicles, forex ample lor ries,
fo r a prolonged time.
