A/C Button
Push the A/C button to engage the Air Conditioning (A/C). An LED will illuminate when the A/C system is engaged.
Automatic Operation
The Automatic Temperature Control system automatically maintains the climate in the cabin of the vehicle at the com-
fort levels desired by the driver and passenger. Operation of the system is quite simple.
Turn the Mode Control knob (on the right) and the Blower Control knob (on the left) to AUTO.
Refer to “Automatic Operation” in this section for more information.
NOTE:
The AUTO position performs best for front seat occupants only.
Recirculation Button
Push and release this button to change the system between recirculation mode and outside air mode. Recirculation can
be used when outside conditions such as smoke, odors, dust, or high humidity are present.
NOTE:
• Continuous use of the Recirculation mode may make the inside air stuffy and window fogging may occur. Extended
use of this mode is not recommended.
• The use of the Recirculation mode in cold or damp weather could cause windows to fog on the inside, because of
moisture buildup inside the vehicle. Select the outside air position for maximum defogging.
• Recirculation can be used in all modes except for Defrost.
• The A/C can be deselected manually without disturbing the mode control selection.
Rear Defrost Button
Push and release the Rear Defrost Control button to turn on the rear window defroster and the heated outside mirrors
(if equipped). An indicator will illuminate when the rear window defroster is on. The rear window defroster automati-
cally turns off after ten minutes.

Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) —

Automatic Operation
1. Push the AUTO button on the faceplate on
the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC)
Panel.
2. Next, adjust the temperature you would
like the system to maintain by adjusting
the driver and passenger temperature
control buttons. Once the desired tem-
perature is displayed, the system will
achieve and automatically maintain that
comfort level.
3. When the system is set up for your comfort
level, it is not necessary to change the
settings. You will experience the greatest
efficiency by simply allowing the system
to function automatically.
NOTE:
• It is not necessary to move the temperature
settings for cold or hot vehicles. The system
automatically adjusts the temperature,
mode, and blower speed to provide comfort
as quickly as possible.To provide you with maximum comfort in the
Automatic mode during cold start-ups, the
blower fan will remain on low until the engine
warms up. The blower will increase in speed
and transition into Auto mode.
Manual Operation Override
This system offers a full complement of
manual override features. The AUTO symbol
in the front ATC display will be turned off
when the system is being used in the manual
mode.
Operating Tips
Summer Operation
The engine cooling system must be protected
with a high-quality antifreeze coolant to pro-
vide proper corrosion protection and to pro-
tect against engine overheating. OAT coolant
(conforming to MS.90032) is recommended.
Winter Operation
To ensure the best possible heater and de-
froster performance, make sure the engine
cooling system is functioning properly and
the proper amount, type, and concentrationof coolant is used. Use of the Air Recircula-
tion mode during Winter months is not rec-
ommended, because it may cause window
fogging.
Vacation/Storage
Before you store your vehicle, or keep it out of
service (i.e., vacation) for two weeks or more,
run the air conditioning system at idle for
about five minutes, in fresh air with the
blower setting on high. This will ensure ad-
equate system lubrication to minimize the
possibility of compressor damage when the
system is started again.
Window Fogging
Vehicle windows tend to fog on the inside in
mild, rainy, and/or humid weather. To clear
the windows, select Defrost or Mix mode and
increase the front blower speed. Do not use
the Recirculation mode without A/C for long
periods, as fogging may occur.

tion for further information. The “Sway Bar
Indicator Light” will flash until the stabilizer/
sway bar has been fully disconnected.
NOTE:
The stabilizer/sway bar may be torque locked
due to left and right suspension height differ-
ences. This condition is due to driving sur-
face differences or vehicle loading. In order
for the stabilizer/sway bar to disconnect/
reconnect, the right and left halves of the bar
must be aligned. This alignment may require
that the vehicle be driven onto level ground or
rocked from side to side.
To return to on-road mode, push the SWAY
BAR switch again.
WARNING!
If the stabilizer/sway bar will not return to
on-road mode, the “Sway Bar Indicator
Light” will flash in the instrument cluster
and vehicle stability is greatly reduced. Do
not attempt to drive the vehicle over
18 mph (29 km/h). Driving faster than
18 mph (29 km/ h) may cause loss of
control of the vehicle, which could result

in serious injury. Contact your local autho-
rized dealer for assistance.
STOP/START SYSTEM —
DIESEL MODELS WITH
MANUAL TRANSMISSION
ONLY
The Stop/Start function is developed to save
fuel and reduce emissions. The system will
stop the engine automatically during a ve-
hicle stop if the required conditions are met.
Pressing the clutch pedal will automatically
restart the vehicle.
Automatic Mode
The Stop/Start feature is en-
abled after every normal cus-
tomer engine start. It will remain
in STOP/START NOT READY un-
til you drive forward with a ve-
hicle speed greater than 3 mph (5 km/h). Atthat time, the system will go into STOP/
START READY and if all other conditions are
met, can go into an STOP/START AUTO STOP
ACTIVE mode.
To Activate The STOP/START AUTO STOP ACTIVE
Mode, The Following Must Occur:
• The system must be in STOP/START
READY state. A STOP/START READY mes-
sage will be displayed in the instrument
cluster. Refer to “Instrument Cluster Dis-
play” in “Getting To Know Your Instrument
Panel” for further information.
• Vehicle speed must be less 3 mph (5 km/h).
• The gear selector must be in the NEUTRAL
position and the clutch pedal must be fully
released
The engine will shut down,the tachometer will
fall to the Stop/Start position,the STOP/START
AUTO STOP ACTIVE message will appear,
and the heater/air conditioning (HVAC) air
flow will be reduced.

If you notice fluid leakage or transmission
malfunction, visit an authorized dealer im-
mediately to have the transmission fluid level
checked. Operating the vehicle with an im-
proper fluid level can cause severe transmis-
sion damage.
Maintenance-Free Battery
Your vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-
free battery. You will never have to add water,
nor is periodic maintenance required.
WARNING!
• Battery fluid is a corrosive acid solution
and can burn or even blind you. Do not
allow battery fluid to contact your eyes,
skin, or clothing. Do not lean over a
battery when attaching clamps. If acid
splashes in eyes or on skin, flush the
area immediately with large amounts of
water. Refer to “Jump Starting Proce-
dure” in “In Case Of Emergency” for
further information.
• Battery gas is flammable and explosive.
Keep flame or sparks away from the
battery. Do not use a booster battery or
WARNING!
any other booster source with an output
greater than 12 Volts. Do not allow cable
clamps to touch each other.
• Battery posts, terminals, and related ac-
cessories contain lead and lead com-
pounds. Wash hands after handling.
CAUTION!
• It is essential when replacing the cables
on the battery that the positive cable is
attached to the positive post and the
negative cable is attached to the nega-
tive post. Battery posts are marked posi-
tive (+) and negative (-) and are identi-
fied on the battery case. Cable clamps
should be tight on the terminal posts
and free of corrosion.
• If a “fast charger” is used while the
battery is in the vehicle, disconnect both
vehicle battery cables before connecting
the charger to the battery. Do not use
a “fast charger” to provide starting volt-
age.
Air Conditioner Maintenance
For best possible performance, your air con-
ditioner should be checked and serviced by
an authorized dealer at the start of each warm
season. This service should include cleaning
of the condenser fins and a performance test.
Drive belt tension should also be checked at
this time.
WARNING!
• Use only refrigerants and compressor
lubricants approved by the manufac-
turer for your air conditioning system.
Some unapproved refrigerants are flam-
mable and can explode, injuring you.
Other unapproved refrigerants or lubri-
cants can cause the system to fail, re-
quiring costly repairs. Refer to Warranty
Information Book, located in your own-
er’s information kit, for further warranty
information.
• The air conditioning system contains re-
frigerant under high pressure. To avoid
risk of personal injury or damage to the
system, adding refrigerant or any repair

requiring lines to be disconnected
should be done by an experienced tech-
nician.
CAUTION!
Do not use chemical flushes in your air
conditioning system as the chemicals can
damage your air conditioning components.
Such damage is not covered by the New
Vehicle Limited Warranty.
Refrigerant Recovery And Recycling R-134a
— If Equipped
R-134a Air Conditioning Refrigerant is a
hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) that is an ozone-
friendly substance. The manufacturer recom-
mends that air conditioning service be per-
formed by an authorized dealer or other
service facilities using recovery and recycling
equipment.NOTE:
Use only manufacturer approved A/C system
PAG compressor oil and refrigerants.
Refrigerant Recovery And Recycling —
R–1234yf
R–1234yf Air Conditioning Refrigerant is a
hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) that is endorsed by
the Environmental Protection Agency and is
an ozone-friendly substance with a low
global-warming potential. The manufacturer
recommends that air conditioning service be
performed by an authorized dealer using re-
covery and recycling equipment.
NOTE:
Use only manufacturer approved A/C system
PAG compressor oil, and refrigerants.
Air Conditioning Filter Replacement (A/C Air
Filter)
WARNING!
Do not remove the cabin air filter while the
vehicle is running, or while the ignition is
in the ACC or ON/RUN mode. With the
cabin air filter removed and the blower
operating, the blower can contact hands
and may propel dirt and debris into your
eyes, resulting in personal injury.
The A/C air filter is located in the fresh air
inlet behind the glove compartment. Perform
the following procedure to replace the filter:
1. Open the glove compartment and remove
all contents.
2. Push in on the sides of the glove compart-
ment and lower the door.

3. Pivot the glove compartment downward.
4. Disengage the two retaining tabs that se-
cure the two air filter access doors to the
HVAC housing.5. Open the two air filter access doors.
6. Remove the two particulate air filters from
the HVAC air inlet housing. Pull the filter
elements straight out of the housing, one
at a time.7. Install the A/C air filter with the air filter
position indicators pointing in the same
direction as removal.
