Driving your vehicle
Information
• When the LSD equipped vehicle is
circling, a slight operating sound of
the LSD's inner friction plate may
be generated. This is a normal oper-
ating sound of the LSD.
If the sound gets louder, we recom-
mend that you change the oil.
• Be sure to inject oil for exclusive use
of LSD when replacing Rear
Differential (for LSD) Oil. Refer to
"Recommended lubricants and
capacities" in chapter 8.The Electronic Control Suspension
(ECS) controls the vehicle suspen-
sion automatically to maximize driv-
ing comfort by taking into account
the driving conditions such as speed,
surface of the road, cornering, stop-
ping requirements and acceleration.
System malfunction
Check Electronic Suspension
If the ECS warning message comes
on, you may have a problem with the
ECS system.
We recommend that the system be
checked by an authorized retailer of
Genesis Branded products.

Winter Precautions
Use high quality ethylene glycol
coolant
Your vehicle is delivered with high
quality ethylene glycol coolant in the
cooling system. It is the only type of
coolant that should be used because
it helps prevent corrosion in the cool-
ing system, lubricates the water
pump and prevents freezing. Be sure
to replace or replenish your coolant
in accordance with the maintenance
schedule in chapter 7. Before winter,
have your coolant tested to assure
that its freezing point is sufficient for
the temperatures anticipated during
the winter.
Change to "winter weight" oil if
necessary
In some climates it is recommended
that a lower viscosity "winter weight"
oil be used during cold weather. See
chapter 8 for recommendations. If
you aren't sure what weight oil you
should use, consult an authorized
retailer of Genesis Branded prod-
ucts.
Check battery and cables
Winter puts additional burdens on
the battery system. Visually inspect
the battery and cables as described
in chapter 7. The level of charge in
your battery can be checked by an
authorized retailer of Genesis
Branded products or a service sta-
tion.
Check spark plugs and ignition
system
Inspect your spark plugs as
described in chapter 7 and replace
them if necessary. Also check all
ignition wiring and components to be
sure they are not cracked, worn or
damaged in any way.
Use approved window washer
anti-freeze in system
To keep the water in the window
washer system from freezing, add an
approved window washer anti-freeze
solution in accordance with instruc-
tions on the container. Window wash-
er anti-freeze is available from an
authorized retailer of Genesis
Branded products and most auto
parts outlets. Do not use engine
coolant or other types of anti-freeze
as these may damage the paint fin-
ish.

1: If TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is not available, one bottle of additive is recommended. Additives are available from your
authorized retailer of Genesis Branded products along with information on how to use them. Do not mix other additives.
*
2: The drive belt should be replaced when cracks occur or tension is reduced.
*
3: Inspect for excessive valve noise and/or engine vibration and adjust if necessary. Have an authorized retailer of Genesis
Branded products perform the operation.

ENGINE OIL
Checking the Engine Oil Level
1. Follow all of the oil manufacturer's
precautions.
2. Be sure the vehicle is on the level
ground in P (Park) with the park-
ing brake set. If possible, block the
wheels.
3. Turn the engine on and allow the
engine to reach normal operating
temperature.
4. Turn the engine off and wait about
five minutes for the oil to return to
the oil pan.
5. Pull the dipstick out, wipe it clean,
and re-insert it fully.
6. Pull the dipstick out again and
check the level. The level should
be between F and L.7. If it is near or at L, add enough oil
to bring the level to F.
Use only the specified engine oil
(refer to "Recommended Lubricants
and Capacities" in chapter 8).

Maintenance
• Do not allow brake/clutch fluid
to contact the vehicle’s body
paint, as paint damage will
result.
• Brake/clutch fluid, which has
been exposed to open air for an
extended time should NEVER be
used as its quality cannot be
guaranteed. It should be dis-
posed of properly.
• Do not use the wrong kind of
brake/clutch fluid. A few drops
of mineral based oil, such as
engine oil, in your brake/clutch
system can damage brake/
clutch system parts.
Information
Use only the specified brake/clutch
fluid (refer to "Recommended
Lubricants and Capacities" in chap-
ter 8).
Checking the Washer Fluid
Level
Check the fluid level in the washer
fluid reservoir and add fluid if neces-
sary. Plain water may be used if
washer fluid is not available.
However, use washer solvent with
antifreeze characteristics in cold cli-
mates to prevent freezing.
i
NOTICE
WASHER FLUID
OIK077010
To prevent serious injury or
death, take the following safety
precautions when using washer
fluid:
•Do not use engine coolant or
antifreeze in the washer fluid
reservoir.
Engine coolant can severely
obscure visibility when sprayed
on the windshield and may
cause loss of vehicle control
resulting in an accident or dam-
age to paint and body trim.
•Do not allow sparks or flames
to contact the washer fluid or
the washer fluid reservoir.
Washer fluid may contain alco-
hol and can be flammable.
•Do not drink washer fluid and
avoid contact with skin.
Washer fluid is harmful to
humans and animals.
•Keep washer fluid away from
children and animals.

Maintenance
AIR CLEANER
Filter Replacement
Do not attempt to wash or to rinse it,
as water will damage the filter.
If soiled, the air cleaner filter must be
replaced.
Visit an authorized retailer of
Genesis Branded products to
replace the air cleaner filter.
Replace the filter according to the
Maintenance Schedule.
Information
If the vehicle is operated in extremely
dusty or sandy areas, replace the air
cleaner filter more often than the
usual recommended intervals (refer to
"Maintenance Under Severe Usage
Conditions" in this chapter).
• Do not drive with the air cleaner
filter removed. This will result in
excessive engine wear.
• When removing the air cleaner
filter, be careful that dust or dirt
does not enter the air intake, or
damage may result.
• Use Genuine Genesis parts. Use
of non-Genuine Genesis parts
could damage the air flow sen-
sor.
