Driver assistance
when the detected object is in the “blind
spot”, at the latest.
@ You are slowly passing another vehicle. If the
difference in speed between the two vehicles
is less than 9 mph (15 km/h), the display in
the exterior mirror will turn on.
Information stage
If you do not activate a turn signal, the system
will inform you about objects classified as critical
by turning on the display in the respective exteri-
or mirror. The display remains dim in the infor-
mation stage so that you are not distracted while
looking forward.
Warning stage
Once you activate a turn signal, the system will
inform you about objects classified as critical by
turning on the display in the respective exterior
mirror.
Depending on vehicle equipment, the display
may also provide a warning when the turn signal
is not activated: if driver assist systems detect
that your vehicle is about to leave a lane, the dis-
play will blink to warn you about objects classi-
fied as critical. You can also be warned with cor-
rective steering > page 137, Audi active lane as-
sist.
System limitations
The system uses the data from the radar sensors
at the rear corners of the vehicle > page 116,
fig. 107. They are designed to detect the left and
right adjacent lanes when the road lanes are the
normal width. In some situations, the system
may react to vehicles in your own lane or lanes
that are not directly adjacent to yours, or to ob-
jects on the side of the road. In this case, the dis-
play will turn on even though there is no vehicle
in the critical area. These situations may include:
— Driving on the edge of your own lane
— Narrow lanes
— Curves
— High barriers on the side of the road
144
AN WARNING
— Follow the safety precautions and note the
limits of the assist systems, sensors, and
cameras > page 114.
— The display may not appear on time when
vehicles are approaching or being passed
very quickly.
G) Tips
— If the window glass in the driver's door or
front passenger's door has been tinted, the
display in the exterior mirror may be incor-
rect.
— For an explanation on conformity with the
FCC regulations in the United States and the
Industry Canada regulations, see
=>page 275.
Adjusting side assist
Applies to: vehicles with side assist
You can adjust the side assist to your preferences.
The settings depend on the vehicle equipment.
> Applies to: MMI: Select on the home screen:
VEHICLE > Driver assistance > Side assist.
Possible settings:
The system can be switched on and off. If the sys-
tem is switched on, the displays in the exterior
mirrors will turn on briefly each time the ignition
is switched on.
Brightness - Change the brightness only when
side assist is switched on, so that the selected
setting can be checked in the exterior mirror dis-
plays. Adjust the brightness to a level where the
display will not interfere with your view ahead.
Because the display brightness automatically
adapts to the ambient light, it may have already
been adjusted to the highest or lowest setting
during the automatic adaptation.
G) Tips
— If you switch side assist on or off, the exit
warning will also switch on or off.

Parking and maneuvering
Parking and
maneuvering
Introduction
Depending on the vehicle equipment, various
parking aids will help you when parking and ma-
neuvering.
Parking aid
The parking aid plus assists you while parking
using audio and visual signals to warn you about
objects detected in front of, behind, and next to*
the vehicle > page 147.
The rearview camera shows the area behind the
vehicle in the center display. The lines in the rear-
view camera image help you to park and maneu-
ver > page 149.
The peripheral cameras are an addition to the
rearview camera and help you to see various
areas around the vehicle while parking and ma-
neuvering > page 149.
The rear cross-traffic assist can warn you of ap-
proaching cross traffic when driving in reverse or
exiting a parking space > page 152.
Assisted parking
Park assist helps you to find suitable parking
spaces and to park in and exit these spaces while
the driver monitors the area around the vehicle
and
controls the parking process. Park assist con-
trols the steering movements when parking in
free parking spaces. The driver is still responsible
for accelerating, braking, and shifting gears
=> page 154.
Settings options
You can adjust parking aid functions individually.
The adjustment options depend on the vehicle
equipment.
— Activating automatically > page 147
— Front and rear volume > page 148
— Entertainment fader > page 148
— Clean rearview camera > page 150
— View > page 151
— Rear cross-traffic assist > page 153
ZX WARNING
Follow the safety precautions and note the
limits of the assist systems, sensors, and
cameras > page 114.
@ Tips
Practicing parking in a traffic-free location or
parking lot to become familiar with the sys-
tems is recommended. Practice parking in
good light and weather conditions.
Parking aid plus

Applies to: vehicles with parking aid plus
General information
The parking aid assists when parking and maneu-
vering by providing warnings about obstacles. If
the ultrasonic sensors on the vehicle > page 116,
fig. 107 detect an obstacle, the system will pro-
vide
audio and visual warnings.
Activating/deactivating
Requirement: the vehicle speed must be under
approximately 6 mph (10 km/h).
> Press the Pt button in the center console.
When activating, a brief tone will sound and
the LED in the button will turn on.
Automatic activation
> The system activates automatically when re-
verse gear is engaged while the engine is run-
ning. A brief tone will sound.
If Automatic activation is switched on in the
MMI and if the vehicle approaches an obstacle at
speeds below approximately 6 mph (10 km/h),
the parking aid will switch on automatically. Au-
dible signals will sound once the obstacle is with-
in the sensor detection area.
>» Applies to: MMI: To switch Automatic activa-
tion on or off, select on the home screen: VEHI-
CLE > Parking aid > Automatic activation.

press that side next to the vehicle in the center
display.
> Remove your hands from the steering wheel.
> Pay attention to the path of the vehicle. If the
traffic situation permits, accelerate carefully

no longer necessary and the specified steering
wheel angle is sufficient to drive out of the
parking space. Resume control of the steering
wheel >@).
Park assist automatically steers the vehicle out of
the parking space while the driver presses the
pedals. The maximum speed for exiting a parking
space is 3 mph (5 km/h).
Z\ WARNING
— Follow the safety precautions and note the
limits of the assist systems, sensors, and
cameras © page 114.
— The park assist is an assist system. The driv-
er is still responsible for monitoring the ve-
hicle's surroundings and preventing colli-
sions when using the system.
— When using park assist to drive into or out
of a parking space, the steering wheel turns
quickly on its own. Reaching into the steer-
ing wheel spokes while this is happening can
result in injury.
@) Note
Resume steering immediately after the last
corrective movement and the takeover
prompt, so that the specified steering wheel
angle is not recentered.
Interrupting the park assists
Applies to: vehicles with park assist
Park assist will be canceled automatically in the
following scenarios:
— You switch the system off.
— You start steering.
— The speed is too high.
— The time limit is exceeded.
— An obstacle is detected.
— ESC intervenes.
Resume control of the vehicle, end the parking
process manually, or:
