TIPAn oil filter wrench is available at aYamaha dealer. 5. Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil to the O-ring of the new oil filter
cartridge.
TIPMake sure that the O-ring is properlyseated.
6. Install the new oil filter cartridge, and then tighten to the specified
torque. 7. Install the engine oil drain bolt with
a new gasket, and then tighten the
bolt to the specified torque.
8. Pour the specified amount of the recommended oil into the crank-
case.
TIPUsing a funnel is recommended.
9. After checking the engine oil filler cap O-ring, install the filler cap.TIPWipe off any spilled oil before startingthe engine.
10. Start the engine and let it idle while checking for oil leaks.TIPIf any oil leaks are found which youcannot fix, have the vehicle inspected.

Checking the front forkThe condition and operation of the front
fork must be checked as follows at the
intervals specified in the periodic main-
tenance and lubrication chart.
To check the condition
Check the inner tubes for scratches,
damage and excessive oil leakage.
To check the operation 1. Place the vehicle on a level sur- face and hold it in an upright posi-
tion. WARNING! To avoid injury,
securely support the vehicle so
there is no danger of it falling
over.

2. While applying the front brake, push down hard on the handlebars
several times to check if the front
fork compresses and rebounds
smoothly.

If any damage is found or the front
fork does not operate smoothly,
have a Yamaha dealer check or re-pair it.

cause danger. Therefore, the operation
of the steering must be checked as fol-
lows at the intervals specified in the pe-
riodic maintenance and lubrication

2. Hold the lower ends of the frontfork legs and try to move them for-
ward and backward. If any free
play can be felt, have a Yamaha
dealer check or repair the steering.
