Main switch/steering lockThe main switch/steering lock controls
the ignition and lighting systems, and is
used to lock the steering. The various
positions are described below.TIPBe sure to use the standard key (black
bow) for regular use of the vehicle. To
minimize the risk of losing the code
re-registering key (red bow), keep it in a
safe place and only use it for codere-registering.

All electrical circui ts are supplied with
power and the vehicle lights are turned on. The engine can be started. The key
cannot be removed.
TIP
To prevent battery discharge, do
not leave the key in the on position
without the engine running.
The headlight comes on automati-cally when the engine is started.

All electrical systems are off. The key
can be removed.
WARNING

Never turn the key to “OFF” or
“LOCK” while the vehicle is moving.
Otherwise the electrical systems will
be switched off, which may result inloss of control or an accident.

1. Turn the handlebars all the way to
the left.
2. With the key in the “OFF” position, push the key in and turn it to
“LOCK”.

From the “LOCK” position, push the
key in and turn it to “OFF”.

turned to “ON”, and then remain on
after the engine is started.

2. Shift the transmission into the neu- tral position. The neutral indicator
light should come on. If not, ask a
Yamaha dealer to check the elec-
trical circuit.
3. Start the engine by sliding the switch toward “ ”.
If the engine fails to start, release
the start/engine stop switch, wait a
few seconds, and then try again.
Each starting attempt should be as
short as possible to preserve the
battery. Do not crank the engine
more than 10 seconds on any one
attempt.
