■Coolant selection
Only use “Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” or a similar high quality ethylene
glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non- nitrite, and non-borate coolant with
long-life hybrid organic acid technology.
“Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” is a mixture of 50% coolant and 50% deion-
ized water. (Minimum temperature: -35 C [-31F])
For more details about coolant, contact any authorized Toyota retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■ If the coolant level drops within a short time of replenishing
Visually check the radiator, hoses, engine coolant reservoir caps, drain cock
and water pump.
If you cannot find a leak, have any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota autho-
rized repairer, or any reli able repairer test the cap and check for leaks in the
cooling system.
WARNING
■ When the engine is hot
Do not remove the radiator cap (gasoline engine), or the engine coolant res-
ervoir cap (diesel engine).
The cooling system may be under pressure and may spray hot coolant if the
cap is removed, causing serious injuries, such as burns.
NOTICE
■ When adding coolant
Coolant is neither plain water nor straight antifreeze. The correct mixture of
water and antifreeze must be used to provide proper lubrication, corrosion
protection and cooling. Be sure to read the antifreeze or coolant label.
■ If you spill coolant
Be sure to wash it off with water to prevent it from damaging parts or paint.

If the washer fluid level is less
than “FULL” line, add washer fluid
to “FULL” line.
Washer fluid
WARNING
■ When adding washer fluid
Do not add washer fluid when the engine is hot or running as washer fluid
contains alcohol and may catch fi re if spilled on the engine, etc.
NOTICE
■Do not use any fluid other than washer fluid
Do not use soapy water or engine antifreeze instead of washer fluid.
Doing so may cause streaking on the vehicle’s painted surfaces, as well as
damaging the pump leading to problems of the washer fluid not spraying.
■ Diluting washer fluid
Dilute washer fluid with water as necessary.
Refer to the freezing temperatures list ed on the label of the washer fluid bot-
tle.

You may drain the fuel filter yourself. However, as the operation is dif-
ficult, we recommend having it drained by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer. Even if
you decide to drain it yourself, contact any authorized Toyota retailer
or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
Vehicles with monochrome display: The water in the fuel filter needs
to be drained if the fuel filter warning light comes on. (P. 579)
Vehicles with color display: The water in the fuel filter needs to be
drained if the fuel filter warning message is shown on the multi-infor-
mation display. (P. 587)
Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position (vehicles without a
smart entry & start system) or off (vehicles with a smart entry & start
system).
Place a small tray under the drain plug to catch the water and any
fuel that comes out.
Turn the drain plug counter-
clockwise about 2 to 2 1/2
turns.
Operate the priming pump until
fuel begins to run out.
After draining, tighten the drain plug by hand.

WARNING
■If both the ABS and the brake system warning lights remain on
Stop your vehicle in a safe place immediately and contact any authorized
Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized r epairer, or any reliable repairer. The
vehicle will become extremely unstable during braking, and the ABS system
may fail, which could cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
■ When the electric power steering system warning light comes on
The steering wheel may become extremely heavy.
If the steering wheel becomes heavier than usual when operating, hold
firmly and operate using more force than usual.
■ If the tire pressure warning light comes on (vehicles with a tire pres-
sure warning system)
Be sure to observe the following precautions. Failure to do so could cause a
loss of vehicle control and result in death or serious injury.
● Stop your vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible. Adjust the tire infla-
tion pressure immediately.
● Vehicles with spare tire: If the tire pressure warning light comes on even
after tire inflation pressure adjustment, it is probable that you have a flat
tire. Check the tires. If a tire is flat, change it with the spare tire and have
the flat tire repaired by the nearest authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
● Vehicles with emergency tire puncture repair kit: If the tire pressure warn-
ing light comes on even after tire inflat ion pressure adjustment, it is proba-
ble that you have a flat tire. Check the tire s. If a tire is flat, repair the flat tire
by using emergency tire puncture repair kit. ( P. 592)
● Avoid abrupt maneuvering and braking. If the vehicle tires deteriorate, you
could lose control of the steering wheel or the brakes.
■ If a blowout or sudden air leakage should occur (vehicles with a tire
pressure warning system)
The tire pressure warning system may not activate immediately.
NOTICE
■ If the fuel filter warning light comes on (diesel engine only)
Never drive the vehicle with the warning light on. Continued driving with
water accumulated in the fuel filter will damage the fuel injection pump.
■ To ensure the tire pressure warning system operates properly (vehi-
cles with a tire pressure warning system)
Do not install tires with different specif ications or makers, as the tire pres-
sure warning system may not operate properly.

■If “Front camera unavailable.” or “Front camera vision
blocked. Clean and demist windshield.” is displayed.
The following systems may be suspended until the problem shown
in the message is resolved.
● PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system)*
●LDA (Lane Departure Alert)*
●Automatic High Beam*
●RSA (Road Sign Assist)*

■Engine oil change reminder message comes on (diesel engine)
Replace the engine oil filter when the engine oil change reminder
message does not come on even if you have driven over 40000 km
(25000 miles) after the engine oil was changed.
There is a possibility that the “Oil maintenance required.” message
has been displayed when you have driven less than 40000 km
(25000 miles) based on a usage or driving condition.
