Engine (ignition) switch (vehicles with a
smart entry & start system)
Check that the parking brake is set.
Check that the shift lever is set in P (Multidrive) or N (manual trans-
mission).
Vehicles with monochrome display
Firmly depress the brake pedal (Multidrive) or clutch pedal (manual
transmission).
The smart entry & start system indicator (green) will turn on.
If the indicator light does not turn on, the engine cannot be started.
Press the engine switch shortly
and firmly.
When operating the engine switch,
one short, firm press is enough.
It is not necessary to press and
hold the switch.
The engine will crank until it starts
or for up to 30 seconds, whichever
is less.
Continue depressing the brake
pedal (Multidrive) or clutch pedal
(manual transmission) until the
engine is completely started.
Diesel engine only: The
indicator turns on. The engine will
start after the indicator light goes
out.
The engine can be started from
any engine switch mode.
Performing the following operations when carrying the elec-
tronic key on your person starts the engine or changes engine
switch mode.

■Auto power off function
Vehicles with a Multidrive
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is
not running) for more than an hour with the shift lever in P, the engine
switch will automatically turn off. However, this function cannot entirely pre-
vent battery discharge. Do not leave the vehicle with the engine switch in
ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode for long periods of time when the
engine is not running.
Vehicles with a manual transmission
If the vehicle is left in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode (the engine is
not running) for more than an hour, the engine switch will automatically turn
off. However, this function cannot entirely prevent battery discharge. Do not
leave the vehicle with the engine switch in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON
mode for long periods of time when the engine is not running.

■ Steering lock
After turning the engine switch off and opening and closing the doors, the
steering wheel will be locked due to the steering lock function. Operating the
engine switch again automatically cancels the steering lock.
■ When the steering lock cannot be released
Vehicles with a manual transmission
Press the engine switch while turning the steering wheel left and right.
■ Steering lock motor overheating prevention
To prevent the steering lock motor from overheating, the motor may be sus-
pended if the engine is turned on and off repeatedly in a short period of time.
In this case, refrain from operating the engine. After about 10 seconds, the
steering lock motor will resume functioning.

● If the switch is not pressed shortly and firmly, the engine switch mode may
not change or the engine may not start.
● If attempting to restart the engine immediately after turning the engine

A buzzer sounds when the key is removed from the engine switch and the
driver’s door is opened while the lights are turned on.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system
A buzzer sounds when the engine switch is turned off and the driver’s door is
opened while the lights are turned on.
■ Battery-saving function
In all conditions following below, the headlights and the other remaining lights
will go off automatically after 20 minutes in order to prevent the vehicle bat-
tery from being discharged:
● The headlights and/or tail lights are on.
● The light switch is in or .
● Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: The engine switch is turned to
the “LOCK” position.
● Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: The engine switch is turned off.
This function will be canceled in any of the following situations:
● Vehicles without a smart entry & start system: When the engine switch is
turned to the “ON” position.
● Vehicles with a smart entry & start system: When the engine switch is turned
to IGNITION ON mode.
● When the light switch is operated.
● When the door is opened or closed.

Registering a Bluetooth® device
Press the tune/scroll knob and select “Bluetooth*” using the knob.
Press the knob and select “Pairing” using the knob.
A passkey will be displayed.
SSP (Secure Simple Pairing) incompatible Bluetooth® devices:
Input the passkey into the device.
SSP (Secure Simple Pairing) compatible Bluetooth® devices:
Select “Yes” to register the device. Depending on the type of
device, it may register automatically.
If a Bluetooth® device has both music player and cellular phone func-
tions, both functions will be registered at the same time. When delet-
ing the device, both functions will be deleted at the same time.
If the off-hook switch is pressed and the “Phone” mode is entered
when no phones have been registered, the registration screen will be
automatically displayed.

●Disconnecting the registered portable player from the audio system
Select the name of the portable player to be disconnected using
the tune/scroll knob.
Select “Disconnect” using the knob.
Press (“Yes”).
● Selecting the connection method
Select the name of the desired portable player using the tune/
scroll knob.
Select “Connection method” using the knob.
Select “From vehicle” or “From audio” using the knob.
Select “Passkey” using the tune/scroll knob. ( P. 399)
Select a 4 to 8-digit passkey using the knob.
Input the number 1 digit at a time.
When the entire number to be registered as a passkey has been
input, press the knob again, or press (“Enter”).
If the passkey to be registered has 8 digits, pressing the knob again, or
pressing (“Enter”) is not necessary.
