WARNING
The engine compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may 
move suddenly, become hot, or become el ectrically energized. To avoid death 
or serious injury, observe the following precautions. 
■ When working on the engine compartment 
● Make sure that the “POWER ON” on the multi-information display or the 
smart entry & start system indicator, and the “READY” indicator are both 
off. 
● Keep hands, clothing and tools away from the moving fan. 
● Be careful not to touch the engine, power control unit, radiator, exhaust 
manifold, etc. right after driving as they may be hot. Oil and other fluids 
may also be hot. 
● Do not leave anything that may burn easily, such as paper and rags, in the 
engine compartment. 
● Do not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to fuel. Fuel fumes 
are flammable. 
● Take care because brake fluid can harm your hands or eyes and damage 
painted surfaces. If fluid gets on your hands or in your eyes, flush the
affected area with clean water immediately. If you still experience discom- 
fort, consult a doctor. 
■ When working near the electric cooling fans or radiator grille 
Be sure the power switch is off. 
With the power switch in ON mode, the electric cooling fans may automati-
cally start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant temperature
is high. ( P. 386) 
■ Safety glasses 
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc. 
from getting in your eyes.
NOTICE
■ If you remove the air cleaner filter 
Driving with the air cleaner filter removed may cause excessive engine wear 
due to dirt in the air. 
■ If the brake fluid level is low or high 
It is normal for the brake fluid level to go down slightly as the brake pads 
wear or when the fluid level in the accumulator is high. 
If the reservoir needs frequent refilling,  it may indicate a serious problem.

When trouble arises
If your vehicle needs to be towed
In the following situations, it is not possible to be towed by another 
vehicle using cables or chains, as the front wheels may be locked due 
to the parking lock. Contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota 
authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer or commercial towing ser- 
vice. 
● There is a malfunction in the shift control system. (P. 447, 460) 
● There is a malfunction in the immobilizer system. (P.  9 1 ) 
● There is a malfunction in the smart entry & start system. (P.  5 1 1 ) 
● The 12-volt battery is discharged. (P. 513) 
The following may indicate a problem with your hybrid transmission. 
Contact any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, 
or any reliable repairer or commercial towing service before towing. 
● The hybrid system warning light turns on or the hybrid system 
warning message is displayed on the multi-information display and 
the vehicle does not move. 
● The vehicle makes an abnormal sound.
If towing is necessary, we recommend having your vehicle 
towed by any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized 
repairer, or any reliable repairer or commercial towing service, 
using a wheel-lift type truck or flat bed truck.
Use a safety chain system for all towing, and abide by all state/ 
provincial and local laws.

PCS warning light 
Indicates a malfunction in the PCS (Pre-Crash Safety sys- 
tem) or that the system is temporarily unavailable due to
the vehicle being extremely hot/cold, or dirt around a front 
sensor, etc. ( P. 283, 458) 
 Follow the instructions displayed on the multi-infor- 
mation display. ( P. 283, 458)
Slip indicator light 
Indicates a malfunction in:
• The VSC system;
• The TRC system; or 
• The hill-start assist control system 
 Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Toyota 
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or any reliable 
repairer immediately. 
The light will flash when the above systems and/or ABS
are operating.
(If equipped)
LDA indicator (warning buzzer)
Indicates that the LDA (Lane Departure Alert with steering
control) system is not available temporarily or has 
detected a malfunction when the warning light is illumi- 
nated in yellow and a warning message is displayed on
the multi-information display.

steering control) system has determined that the 
driver does not have the hands on the steering
wheel while the steering control function is on 
If the driver operates the steering wheel only a 
small amount, the system may be unable to
detect the steering wheel operations and this 
warning may be displayed. 
 Firmly hold the steering wheel.
(If equipped)
Indicates that steering control function is tempo- 
rarily canceled due to the LDA (Lane Departure 
Alert with steering control) system determining 
that the driver does not have the hands on the
steering wheel while the steering control function 
is on 
If the driver operates the steering wheel only a
small amount, the system may be unable to 
detect the steering wheel operations and this 
warning may be displayed.
 Firmly hold the steering wheel.

Indicates that the radar sensor is dirty or covered 
with ice
A buzzer also sounds. 
 Clean the sensor.

Indicates that the dynamic radar cruise control 
system cannot be used temporarily due to bad
