lights are turned on automatically

Automatic High Beam
The Automatic High Beam uses an in-vehicle front sensor to
assess the brightness of streetl ights, the lights of vehicles
ahead etc., and automatically turns the high beam on or off as
necessary.
WARNING
■ Limitations of the Automatic High Beam
Do not rely on the Automatic High Beam. Always drive safely, ta king care to
observe your surroundings and turning the high beam on or off m anually if
necessary.
■ To prevent incorrect operation o f the Automatic High Beam syste m

■After a fuse is replaced
●If the lights do not turn on even after the fuse has been repla ced, a bulb may
need replacement. ( P. 456)
● If the replaced fuse blows again, have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota
dealer.
■ If there is an overload in a circuit
The fuses are designed to blow, protecting the wiring harness f rom damage.
WARNING
■To prevent system breakdowns and vehicle fire
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause damage to the vehicle, and possibly a fire or
injury.
● Never use a fuse of a higher amperage rating than that indicate d, or use
any other object in place of a fuse.
● Always use a genuine Toyota fuse or equivalent.
Never replace a fuse with a wire, even as a temporary fix.
● Do not modify the fuses or fuse boxes.
■ Fuse box near the power control unit
Never check or replace the fuses as there are high voltage parts and wiring
near the fuse box.
Doing so may cause electric shoc k, resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
■Before replacing fuses
Have the cause of electrical overload determined and repaired b y your
Toyota dealer as soon as possible.

■LED light bulbs
The headlights/daytime running lights, front fog lights (if equipped), side
marker lights, stop/tail lights and high mounted stoplight cons ist of a number
of LEDs. If any of the LEDs burn out, take your vehicle to your Toyota dealer
to have the light replaced.
■ Condensation build-up on the inside of the lens
Temporary condensation build-up on the inside of the headlight lens does not
indicate a malfunction. Contact your Toyota dealer for more information in the
following situations:
● Large drops of water have built up on the inside of the lens.
● Water has built up inside the headlight.
WARNING
■Replacing light bulbs
● Turn off the lights. Do not attempt to replace the bulb immedia tely after
turning off the lights.
The bulbs become very hot and may cause burns.
● Do not touch the glass portion of the light bulb with bare hand s. When it is
unavoidable to hold the glass portion, use and hold with a clea n dry cloth
to avoid getting moisture and oils on the bulb.
Also, if the bulb is scratched or dropped, it may blow out or crack.
● Fully install light bulbs and any parts used to secure them. Fa ilure to do so
may result in heat damage, fire, or water entering the headligh t unit. This
may damage the headlights or cause condensation to build up on the lens.
■ To prevent damage or fire
Make sure bulbs are fully seated and locked.

Indicates that the Automatic High Beam switch is
pressed while the headlights are in low beam.
Turn the high beam on.
Indicates that, since the VSC (Vehicle Stability
Control) system was turned off, the pre-collision
braking and pre-collision brake assist are dis-
abled (The pre-collision warning function will be
operational)
Turn the VSC on. ( P. 238, 265)
Indicates that the pre-collision system is disabled.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota
dealer.
Indicates that the hybrid battery (traction battery)
is low A buzzer also sounds.
When stopping the vehicle for a long
period of time, shift the shift lever to P. The
hybrid battery (traction battery) cannot be
charged with the shift position in N.
Indicates that the hybrid battery (traction battery)
power has dropped because a long period of time
has elapsed after shifting the shift lever to N A buzzer also sounds.
Shift the shift lever to P and restart the
hybrid system when starting the vehicle.

When trouble arises
PRIUS c_UIndicates that the driver’s door was opened with
the shift position in N, D or B
A buzzer also sounds.
Shift the shift lever to P.
Indicates that the accelerator pedal is depressed
while the shift position is in N A buzzer also sounds.
Release the accelerator pedal and shift the
shift lever to D, B or R.
Indicates that the power switch is turned to the
“ACC” or “LOCK” position (vehicles without a
smart key system) or the power switch is turned
to ACCESSORY mode or turned off (vehicles
with a smart key system) and the driver’s door is
opened while the lights are turned on A buzzer also sounds.
Turn the lights off.
