not installed on your vehicle.

Depending on specifications, the vehicle shown in the illustrat ions may differ
from your vehicle in terms of color and equipment.
Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you ma y hear sound
coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel
evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction.
A wide variety of non-genuine spare parts and accessories for T oyota vehi-
cles are currently available in the market. You should know tha t Toyota does
not warrant these products and is not responsible for their per formance,
repair, or replacement, or for any damage they may cause to, or adverse
effect they may have on, your Toyota vehicle.
This vehicle should not be modified with non-genuine Toyota pro ducts. Modi-
fication with non-genuine Toyota products could affect its perf ormance, safety
or durability, and may even violate governmental regulations. In addition,
damage or performance problems resulting from the modification may not be
covered under warranty.
The installation of a mobile two-way radio system in your vehic le could affect
electronic systems such as:
● Multiport fuel injection system /sequential multiport fuel injec tion
system
● Toyota Safet y Sense P
● Cruise control system
● Anti-lock brake system
● SRS airbag system
● Seat belt pret ensioner system
Be sure to check with your Toyota dealer for precautionary meas ures or spe-
cial instructions regarding instal lation of a mobile two-way radio system.

For safety and security
WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause the driver’s floor mat to slip, possibly interfering
with the pedals while driving. An unexpectedly high speed may result or it may
become difficult to stop the vehicle. This could lead to an acc ident, resulting in
death or serious injury.
■ When installing the driver’s floor mat
● Do not use floor mats designed for other models or different mo del year
vehicles, even if they are Toyota Genuine floor mats.
● Only use floor mats designed for the driver’s seat.
● Always install the floor mat securely using the retaining hooks (clips) pro-
vided.
● Do not use two or more floor mats on top of each other.
● Do not place the floor mat bottom-side up or upside-down.
■ Before driving
● Check that the floor mat is securely
fixed in the correct place with all the
provided retaining hooks (clips). Be
especially careful to perform this check
after cleaning the floor.
● With the engine stopped and the shift
lever in P, fully depress each pedal to
the floor to make sure it does not inter-
fere with the floor mat.

Operation of each component
To take out the mechanical key,
slide the release lever and take
the key out.
The mechanical key can only be
inserted in one direction, as the
key only has grooves on one side.
If the key cannot be inserted in a
lock cylinder, turn it over and re-
attempt to insert it.
After using the mechanical key, store it in the electronic key. Carry the
mechanical key together with the electronic key. If the electro nic key bat-
tery is depleted or the entry function does not operate properl y, you will
need the mechanical key. ( P. 551)
■Panic mode
■ When required to leave the vehicle ’s key with a parking attendant
Lock the glove box as circumstances demand. ( P. 411)
Remove the mechanical key for your own use and provide the attendant with
the electronic key only.
■ If you lose your mechanical keys
New genuine mechanical keys can be made by your Toyota dealer u sing
another mechanical key and the key number stamped on your key n umber
plate. Keep the plate in a safe place such as your wallet, not in the vehicle.
Using the mechanical key
When is pressed for longer than
about one second, an alarm will sound
intermittently and the vehicle lights will
flash to deter any person from trying to
break into or damage your vehicle.
To stop the alarm, press any button on the
electronic key.

WARNING
●Do not pull on the back door damper stay to close the back door , and do
not hang on the back door damper stay.
Doing so may cause hands to be caught or the back door damper stay to
break, causing an accident.
● If a bicycle carrier or similar heavy object is attached to the back door, it
may suddenly shut again after being opened, causing someone’s hands,
head or neck to be caught and injured. When installing an acces sory part
to the back door, using a genuine Toyota part is recommended.
● When closing the back door, take extra
care to prevent your fingers etc. from
being caught. Also pay attention to your
personal belongings such as bags and
ties.
● When closing the back door, make sure
to press it lightly on its outer surface. If
the back door handle is used to fully
close the back door, it may result in
hands or arms being caught.

WARNING
●In the following situations, the power back door may detect an abnormality
and automatic operation may be stopped. In this case, the back door has
to be operated manually. Take extra care when on an incline, as the back
door may open or close abruptly.
• When the back door contacts an obstacle
• When the battery voltage suddenly drops, such as when the engi ne
switch is turned to the IGNITION ON mode or the engine is start ed
during automatic operation
● If a bicycle carrier or similar heavy object is attached to the back door, the
power back door may not operate, causing itself to malfunction, or the
back door may suddenly shut again after being opened, causing s ome-
one’s hands, head or neck to be caught and injured. When instal ling an
accessory part to the back door, using a genuine Toyota part is recom-
mended.
■ Jam protection function (veh icles with power back door)
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause death or serious injury.
● Never use any part of your body to intentionally activate the j am protection
function.
● The jam protection function may not work if something gets caught just
before the back door fully closes. Be careful not to catch fing ers or any-
thing else.
● The jam protection function may not work depending on the shape of the
object that is caught. Be careful not to catch fingers or anything else.

Operation of each component
NOTICE
■Back door damper stays
The back door is equipped with damper stays that hold the back door in
place.
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause damage to the back door damper stay, resulting
in malfunction.
● Do not place your hand on the damper stay or apply lateral forc es to it.
■ To prevent back door closer malfu nction (vehicles with power back
door)
Do not apply excessive force to the back door while the back door closer is
operating.
■ To prevent damage to the po wer back door (if equipped)
● Make sure that there is no ice between the back door and frame that
would prevent movement of the back door. Operating the power ba ck door
when excessive load is present on the back door may cause a mal func-
tion.
● Do not apply excessive force to the back door while the power b ack door
is operating.
● Take care not to damage the sensors (installed on the right and left edges
of the power back door) with a knife or other sharp object. If the sensor is
disconnected, the power back door will not operate in automatic operation.
■ When operating the back door r eserve lock function (vehicles wi th
power back door)
Make sure to carry the electronic key on your person.
If the electronic key is returned inside the vehicle during the closing opera-
tion, it may be locked even if the electronic key is inside the vehicle depend-
ing on the location of electronic key.
Before leaving the vehicle, make sure that all the doors are closed and
locked.
● Do not attach any foreign objects, such
as stickers, plastic sheets, or adhesives
to the damper stay rod.
● Do not touch the damper stay rod with
gloves or other fabric items.
● Do not attach any accessories other
than genuine Toyota parts to the back
door.

WARNING
■Load and distribution
●Do not exceed the maximum axle weight rating or the total vehicle
weight rating.
●Even if the total load of occupant’s weight and the cargo load is less
than the total load capacity, d o not apply the load unevenly. I mproper
loading may cause deterioration of steering or braking control which
may cause death or serious injury.
■Roof luggage carrier precautions (if equipped)
To use the roof rails as a roof luggage carrier, you must fit t he roof rails
with two or more genuine Toyota cross rails or their equivalent .
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and precautions when ins talling
the cross rails or their equivalent.
When you load cargo on the roof luggage carrier, observe the fo llowing:
●Place the cargo so that its weight is distributed evenly betwee n the
front and rear axles.
●If loading long or wide cargo, n ever exceed the vehicle overall length
or width. ( P. 564)
●Before driving, make sure the cargo is securely fastened on the roof
luggage carrier.
●Loading cargo on the roof lugga ge carrier will make the center of grav-
ity of the vehicle higher. Avoid high speeds, sudden starts, sh arp turns,
sudden braking or abrupt maneuver s, otherwise it may result in loss of
control or vehicle rollover due to failure to operate this vehi cle correctly
and result in death or serious injury.
●If driving for a long distance, on rough roads, or at high spee ds, stop
the vehicle now and then during the trip to make sure the cargo
remains in its place.
●Do not exceed 154 lb. (70 kg) cargo weight on the roof luggage carrier.
■Cross rail adjustment
Make sure the cross rails are locked securely by pushing forward and
rearward them.
Failure to do so may cause an accident or serious injury in the event of
emergency braking or a collision.

Driving
Automatic High Beam
The Automatic High Beam uses an in-vehicle camera sensor to
assess the brightness of streetlights, the lights of vehicles
ahead etc., and automatically turns the high beam on or off as
necessary.
WARNING
■ Limitations of the Automatic High Beam
Do not rely on the Automatic High Beam. Always drive safely, ta king care to
observe your surroundings and turning the high beam on or off m anually if
necessary.
■ To prevent incorrect operation o f the Automatic High Beam syste m
Do not overload the vehicle.
NOTICE
■ Notes when using the Aut omatic High Beam system
Vehicles without PCS (Pre-Collision System):
● Do not spill liquid onto the inside rear view mirror or the cam era sensor.
● Do not apply window tinting or stickers to the camera sensor or the area of
windshield near the camera sensor.
● Do not place items on the dashboard. There is a possibility tha t the cam-
era sensor will mistake items reflected in the windshield for s treetlights,
the headlights of other vehicles, etc.
● Do not install a parking tag or any other accessories near or a round the
inside rear view mirror and the camera sensor.
● Do not modify the vehicle.
● Do not replace windshield with a non-genuine windshield.
