Security feature (vehicles with a smart entry & start system)
If a door is not opened within approximately 30 seconds after the vehicle is
unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the vehicle again.
■ Door lock buzzer (vehicles with a smart entry & start system)
If an attempt to lock the doors is made when a door is not fully closed, a
buzzer sounds continuously for 5 seconds. Fully close the door to stop the
buzzer, and lock the vehicle once more.
■ If the smart entry & start system do es not operate properly (if equipped)
● Use the mechanical key to lock and unlock the doors. ( P. 458)
● Replace the battery with a new one if it is depleted. ( P. 383)

Move the inside lock button to the lock position.
Close the door while pulling the door handle.

Vehicles without a smart entry & start system:
The door cannot be locked if the key is in the engine switch.
Vehicles with a smart entry & start system:
The door cannot be locked if the engine switch is in ACCESSORY or
IGNITION ON mode, or the electronic key is left inside the vehicle.
The key may not be detected correctly and the door may be locked.

■Conditions affecting operation of the wireless remote control (if
equipped)
The wireless remote control function may not operate normally in the follow-
ing situations.
● When the wireless key battery is depleted
● Near a TV tower, radio station, electric power plant, airport or other facility
that generates strong radio waves
● When carrying a portable radio, cellular phone or other wireless communi-
cation device
● When multiple wireless keys are in the vicinity
● When the wireless key has come into contact with, or is covered by a metal-
lic object
● When a wireless key (that emits radio waves) is being used nearby
● When the wireless key has been left near an electrical appliance such as a
personal computer
● If window tint with a metallic content or metallic objects are attached to the
rear window

WARNING
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door opening and an occupant throwing out
of the vehicle, resulting in death or serious injury.
● Ensure that all doors are properly closed.
● Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even
if the inside lock buttons are in locked position.
● 5-door models: Set the rear door child-protector locks when children are
seated in the rear seats.

■Luggage compartment light (if equipped)
■ If the back door opener is inoperative (vehicles with a smart entry & start
system)
The back door can be unlocked from the inside.
The luggage compartment light turns on
when the back door is opened.
Remove the 4 clips and the luggage
trim.
To prevent damage, cover the tip of the
flathead screwdriver with a tape.
Move the lever.
