while the drop prevention mechanism is oper-ating.
If the engine is started while the power lift- gate is operating, the power liftgate may intermittently move
or stop moving to pre-
vent the power liftgate from moving abruptly.Approximately 10 seconds after the power liftgate has fully closed or opened, power lift- gate operation will again resume.

When the power liftgate is closed manu- ally, the auto reverse mechanism will notoperate. If the auto reverse mechanism has been repeatedly activated, the power liftgate may stop and then, depending on its posi- tion, may abruptly open
 or close. Once the
power liftgate is completely closed or open, automatic op
eration will be
resumed.
CAUTION Do not damage the auto reverse sensor, when loading or unloading lugga
ge. If the sensor is
damaged, the power liftgate will not closeautomatically.

 the weight of the
accessory. The drop prevention mechanism could be activated if you attempt
to close the liftgate
manually immediately
after the power lift-

system as described below. 1. Except for vehicles
 equipped with the
F.A.S.T.-key, remove the key from theignition switch. For vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.- key, put the operation mode in OFF.2. Make sure that the engine hood is closed. 3. Lock all doors and the liftgate by using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.
At this time, the theft-alarm indicator (A) on the instrument panel flashes for confir-mation. 4. The system has entered the armed stage after about 20 seconds, when the theft-alarm indicator (A) flashing becomes slower. The theft-alarm indicator (A) continues toflash while the system is in the armed stage.

The alarm will be activated if any of the fol- lowing occur while the vehicle is parked andthe system is armed. One of the doors and the liftgate is opened without using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation. The engine hood is opened.
CAUTIONDo not modify or add parts to the theft-alarm system. Doing so could cause the theft-alarmto malfunction.
Armed stage Arm the system and leave
NOTE
If the engine hood is open, the theft-alarm indicator (A) illuminate
s and the system can-
not enter the armed stage. The system enters the armed stage about 20seconds after the engine hood is closed. The system will be disarmed if, while the theft-alarm indicator (A) is illuminated, all doors and the liftgate are unlocked by using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-keyoperation.
The system will be disarmed if, while the theft-alarm indicator is illuminated, the fol-lowing operation is performed. • Except for vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.-key, if the ignition switch is turnedto the “ON” position. • For vehicles equippe
d with the F.A.S.T.-
key, if the operation mode is put in ON.
The system will not be armed if a door, the liftgate or the engine
 hood is not completely
closed. If this happens, rearm the system as described above. The theft-alarm system can be activated when people are riding inside the vehicle orwhen the windows are open. To prevent acci- dental activation of the alarm, do not set the system to the system armed mode while peo-ple are riding in the vehicle.

NOTE
Never try to operate the main switch and sub-switch in different directions at the same time. This will free
ze the window in posi-
tion. Operating the power
 windows repeatedly
with the engine stopped will run down thebattery. Use the window
 switches only while
the engine is running.WA R N I N G Before operating the power windows, make sure that nothing can be trapped (head, hands, fingers, etc.) in the window.
 Never leave the vehi
cle without carrying
the key. Never leave children

If a hand or head is trapped, for safety the door window is automati
cally lowered a little.
After the obstruction is removed, pull up the switch again to close the door window.
N00551400014
Wind buffeting can be de
scribed as the per-
ception of pressure on the ears or a boomingor rumbling sound. Your
 vehicle may exhibit
wind buffeting when driving with one or both rear door windows down or partially opened. This is a normal occurrence that can be mini- mized. If the buffeting
occurs with the rear
door windows open, open the front door win-dows as well as the rear door windows to minimize the condition.
WA R N I N G Before driving with a child in the vehicle, be sure to lock the window switch to makeit inoperative. Children tampering withthe switch could easily trap their hands or heads in the window.
Safety mechanism
WA R N I N G If the battery terminals are disconnected or the fuse for electric window is replaced, the safety mechanism will be cancelled. If a hand or head got
 trapped, a serious
injury could result.CAUTION The safety mechanism is deactivated just before the door window closes. This allowsthe door window to close completely. There- fore be especially careful that fingers are not trapped in the door window opening.
The safety mechanism is deactivated while the switch is pulled up.
 Therefore be espe-
cially careful that fi
ngers are not trapped in
the door window opening. Do not deliberately tr
ap your hands or head
in order to activate the safety mechanism. Your hand or head coul
d be trapped and per-
sonal injury could result.NOTE
The safety mechanism can be activated if the driving conditions or
other circumstances
cause the door windows to
 be subjected to a
physical shock similar to that caused by trapped hand or head. If the following operation is performed, the safety mechanism will be cancelled and thedoor window will not
 automatically
open/close completely. • When the battery te
rminals are discon-
nected. • When the fuse for power window is replaced. • When the safety mechanism is activated five or more times consecutively.CAUTION
In such a case, the
following procedure
should be implemented to rectify this situa-tion.If the window is open,
repeatedly raise the
appropriate wi
ndow switch until that win-
dow has been fully closed.Following this, release the switch, raise the switch once again and hold it in this condi- tion for at least 1 second, then release it. Youshould now be able to
 operate all windows in
the normal function.

N00593200050
The Electric parking brake is the system that applies the parking brake by the electricmotor.
When the parking brake is applied, the brake warning light (red) in the instrument clusterand the indicator light (A) on the Electric parking brake switch will come on. When parking on a hill, set the parking brake, and turn the front wheels toward the curb on adownhill, or away from
the curb on an uphill.
CAUTIONBefore driving, be sure that the parking brake is fully released and brake warninglight is off.If you drive without the parking brake fully released, the warning
display will appear on
the information screen in the multi-informa-tion display. If a vehicle is driven without releasing the parking brake, the brakes will be overheated, resulting in ineffectiv
e braking and possible
brake failure. Warning light (red)

Electric parking brake
 (if so
equipped)
NOTE
You may hear an operation noise from the vehicle body when operating the Electricparking brake. This do
es not indicate a mal-
function and the Elec
tric parking brake is
operating normally. When the battery is weak or dead, the Elec- tric parking brake
cannot be applied or
released. Refer to “Jum
p-starting the engine”
on page 8-2. You may feel the brake pedal moving when operating the Electr
ic parking brake.
This does not indi
cate a malfunction.
To apply

1. Stop the vehicle completely. 2. Pull up the Electric parking brake switch
while depressing the brake pedal.
CAUTION While the vehicle is in
 motion, do not apply
the Electric parking
brake. Doing so may
cause overheating and/or
 premature wear of
brake parts, reducing brake performance. NOTE
In the following conditions, the brake warn- ing light (red) will il
luminate for approxi-
mately 15 seconds and then go off. • While the Electric pa
rking brake is applied,
the ignition switch is turned to the “OFF” position or the opera
tion mode is put in
OFF. • While the ignition switch is in the “OFF” position or the operation mode is in OFF,the Electric pa
