Deactivating or activating the ECO
start/stop function
Mercedes-AMG vehicles
XTo deactivate:press ECO buttonC.Indicator lampDgoes out.

If indicator lampDis off, the ECO start/stopfunction has been switched off manually or asthe result of a malfunction. The engine will thennot be switched off automatically when the vehi-cle stops.

If you have permanently activated manual gear-shifting and then press ECO buttonC, the ECOstart/stop function is switched on.
All other models

AMG Performance adjustable exhaust
system (Mercedes-AMG vehicles)
The volume of the AMG Performance adjustableexhaust system changes depending on the posi-tion of the switchable exhaust flap. The exhaustflap is adjusted automatically according to theselected drive program (Ypage 139).
You can also adjust the position of the exhaustflap and therefore the volume of the exhaustsystem manually.
The automatic adjustment of the exhaust flap isalways active when you change drive program,regardless of the manual setting.
Each time you start the engine with the Smart-Key or the Start/Stop button, the quietest set-ting is activated.

ProblemPossible causes/consequences andPPSolutions
The engine is not runningsmoothly and is misfir-ing.
There is a malfunction in the engine electronics or in a mechanicalcomponent of the engine management system.
XOnly depress the accelerator pedal slightly.Otherwise, non-combusted fuel may get into the catalytic converterand damage it.
XHave the cause rectified immediately at a qualified specialist work-shop.
The coolant temperaturedisplay indicates a valuewithin the red band.
The coolant level is too low. The coolant is too hot and the engine is nolonger being cooled sufficiently.
XStop as soon as possible and allow the engine and the coolant tocool down.
XCheck the coolant level (Ypage 303). Observe the warning notesas you do so and add coolant if necessary.

If the engine speed is above the idling speed
and you engage transmission positionDorR,
the vehicle could pull away suddenly. There is
a risk of an accident.
When engaging transmission positionDorR,
always firmly depress the brake pedal and do
not simultaneously accelerate.
GWARNING
The automatic transmission switches to neu-
tral positionNwhen you switch off the engine.
The vehicle may roll away. There is a risk of an
accident.
After switching off the engine, always switch
to parking positionP. Prevent the parked vehi-
cle from rolling away by applying the parking
brake.

The DIRECT SELECT lever is on the right of thesteering column.
The DIRECT SELECT lever always returns to itsoriginal position. The current transmission posi-tion],^,\\or[is shown on the trans-mission position display on the multifunctiondisplay (Ypage 142).
Selecting park position
!If the engine speed is too high or the vehicleis coasting, do not shift the automatic trans-mission directly from[to^, from^to[or directly to]. Otherwise, the automatictransmission may be damaged.
XPush the DIRECT SELECT lever switch in thedirection of arrow].
Engaging park position automatically
Park position]is automatically engaged if:
Ryou switch off the engine using the SmartKeyand remove the SmartKey
Ryou switch off the engine using the SmartKeyor using the Start/Stop button and open thedriver's door or front-passenger door
Ryou open the driver's door when the vehicle isstationary or when driving at a very low speedand the transmission is in position[or^

Engaging reverse gear
!Only move the automatic transmission to^when the vehicle is stationary.
XDepress the brake pedal.
XPush the DIRECT SELECT lever up past thefirst point of resistance.
The ECO start/stop function is not availablewhen reverse gear is engaged. Further informa-tion on the ECO start/stop function(Ypage 136).
Shifting to neutral
GWARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle,
they could:
Ropen the doors, thus endangering other
people or road users.
Rget out and disrupt traffic.
Roperate the vehicle's equipment.
Additionally, children could set the vehicle in
motion if, for example, they:
Rrelease the parking brake.
Rshifting the automatic transmission out of
park positionP
RStart the engine.
There is a risk of an accident and injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children or animals unattended in the
vehicle. Always keep the SmartKey out of
reach of children.
XIf the transmission is in position[or^:push the DIRECT SELECT lever up or down tothe first point of resistance.
XIf the transmission is in position]: depressthe brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECTlever up or down to the first point of resist-ance.
If you switch the engine off with the transmis-sion in position^or[, the automatic trans-mission shifts to\\automatically.
With the SmartKey:if you then open the driv-er's door or the front-passenger door or removethe SmartKey from the ignition lock, the auto-matic transmission shifts to]automatically.
With the Start/Stop button:if you then openthe driver's door or the front-passenger door,the automatic transmission shifts to]auto-matically.
If you want the automatic transmission toremain in neutral\\, e.g. when having the vehi-cle cleaned in an automatic, tow-through carwash:
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO start function:remove the Start/Stopbutton from the ignition lock.
XInsert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
XAll vehicles:switch the ignition on.
XDepress the brake pedal and keep itdepressed.
XShift to neutral\\.
XRelease the brake pedal.
XRelease the electric parking brake.
XSwitch off the ignition and leave the SmartKeyin the ignition lock.
Engaging the drive position
XIf the transmission is in position^or\\:push the DIRECT SELECT lever down past thefirst point of resistance.
XIf the transmission is in position]: depressthe brake pedal and push the DIRECT SELECTlever down past the first point of resistance.

iIf you have selected the "Eco" or "Comfort"(Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC/GLC 63 S 4MATIC) setting for the drive(engine and transmission management) indrive programI, you can also activate glidingmode. Towing a trailer
XDrive in the middle of the engine speed rangeon uphill gradients.
XManual shifting:depending on the uphill ordownhill gradient, shift into a gear(Ypage 147), in which the engine will run themiddle of the engine speed range.
This also applies if cruise control or ActiveDistance Assist DISTRONIC is activated.

TheRACEdrive program is characterized by thefollowing:

Rall vehicle systems are set for maximumsportiness.
Rthe gearshift recommendation gives youinformation for slowly warming up the driveassemblies and for adopting a fuel-efficientdriving style (Ypage 147). You can follow thegearshift recommendations at all times andshift gear accordingly using the steeringwheel paddle shifters. On the basis of thegearshift recommendation, using the steeringwheel paddle shifters, you can optimize the
drive train and engine operating mode at anytime.
Rif you have selected a gear manually, this willbe maintained until the vehicle speed increa-ses or decreases dramatically.

Manual gear shifting
General notes
You can change gear yourself using the steeringwheel paddle shifters. The transmission must bein position[for this.
Depending on which steering wheel paddleshifter is pulled, the automatic transmission
immediately shifts into the next gear down orup, if permitted.
To use manual shifting, you have two options:
Rtemporary setting
Rpermanent setting
If you activate manual gearshifting, the multi-function display will show the current gear andcinstead of transmission position[.
If you deactivate manual gearshifting, the gearswill be shifted automatically again.
Temporary setting
XTo activate:shift the DIRECT SELECT lever toposition[.
XPull steering wheel paddle shifterCorD.
The temporary setting is active for a certainamount of time. In certain conditions, the mini-mum amount of time is extended, e.g. in thecase of lateral acceleration, overrun mode ordriving on steep terrain.
XTo deactivate:pull steering wheel paddleshifterDand hold it in place.
or
XUse the DIRECT SELECT lever to switch thetransmission position.
or
XUse the DYNAMIC SELECT switch to changethe drive program.
Permanent setting
!Mercedes-AMG vehicles:the automatictransmission does not shift up automaticallyeven when the engine limiting speed for thecurrent gear is reached. When the engine lim-iting speed is reached, the fuel supply is cut toprevent the engine from overrevving. Alwaysmake sure that the engine speed does not
