HOLD function
HOLD functionThe HOLD function holdsthevehicle at astand‐still withoutrequiringyoutodepressthe brakepedal, e.g. whilewaiting in traffic.
The HOLD function is only an aid. Theresponsi‐bilityforthevehicle safelystandingstillremainswiththe driver.
System limitationsThe HOLD function is only intendedtoprovideassistance when driving and is not a sufficientmeans of safeguardingthevehicle againstrollingawaywhenstationary.
RThe incline must not be greaterthan 30%.
Activating/deactivating the HOLD function
\nWARNINGRisk of an accident duetotheHOLD function being activated whenyouleavethevehicle
Ifyou leavethevehicle while onlythe HOLDfunction is brakingthevehicle,thevehiclecanrollawayinthefollowing situations:
RIfthere is a malfunction inthe system orinthe power supply.
RIfthe HOLD function is deactivatedbydepressingthe accelerator pedal orthebrake pedal, e.g.byavehicle occupant.
RIfthe electrics inthe engine compart‐ment,the battery orthe fuses aretam‐pered with or ifthe battery is disconnec‐ted.
Always deactivatethe HOLD functionand securethevehicle againstrollingawaybefore leavingthevehicle.
NOTEDamagefrom automatic braking
WhenActive Brake Assist,Active DistanceAssistDISTRONIC orthe HOLD function areactivated,thevehicle brakes autonomouslyin certain situations.
Toavoid damagetothevehicle, deactivatethese systems inthefollowing or similar sit‐uations:
Duringtowing
In a carwash
Requirements:RThevehicle isstationary.
RThe driver's door is closed orthe seat belt onthe driver's side isfastened.
RThe engine isrunning or has been automati‐cally switched offbythe ECOstart/stopfunction.
RThe electric parking brake isreleased.
RActive Distance AssistDISTRONIC is not acti‐vated.

Pressthe mark on cover1inwards andremove.
Screwinthetowingeyeclockwise asfar as itwill go and tighten.
Make surethat cover1engages inthebumper whenyouremovethetowingeye.
NOTEDamageduetoincorrect use ofthetowingeye
When atowingeye is usedtorecover avehi‐cle,thevehicle may be damaged inthe proc‐ess.
Only usethetowingeyeto towawayortowstartthevehicle.

The automatic transmission may be damagedinthe process oftowstartingvehicles withautomatic transmission.

\nWARNINGRisk of accident and injurydueto overloaded lines
Ifyou manipulate or bridge afaulty fuse or ifyoureplace it with a fuse with a higheramperage,the electric line could beoverloa‐ded.
This couldresult in afire.
Alwaysreplacefaulty fuses with speci‐fied new fuses containingthe correctamperage.
NOTEDamageduetoincorrect fuses
Electrical components or systems may bedamagedbyincorrect fuses, ortheir func‐tionality may be significantlyimpaired.
Only use fusesthat havebeen approvedbyMercedes-Benz and which havethecorrect fuserating.

Blown fuses must bereplaced with fuses ofthesamerating, whichyou canrecognizebythecolor and fuserating. The fuseratings and fur‐ther informationtobe observed are listed inthefuse assignment diagram.

NOTEDamageor malfunctions causedbymoisture
Moisture may cause damagetothe electricalsystem or cause ittomalfunction.
Whenthe fuse box is open, make surethat no moisture can enterthe fusebox.
When closingthe fuse box, make surethatthe seal ofthe lid is positioned cor‐rectly onthe fuse box.
Ifthe newly inserted fuse also blows, havethecause traced andrectified at aqualified special‐istworkshop.
Ensurethefollowing beforereplacing a fuse:
RThevehicle is secured againstrollingaway
RAll electrical consumers are switched off
RThe ignition is switched off

Whenthe engine hood is open andthe wind‐shield wipers are set in motion,you can betrappedbythe wiper linkage.
Always switch offthe windshield wipersand ignition before openingthe enginehood.

Removeanyexisting moisture fromthe fusebox using a dry cloth.
Loosen screws4,removefuse box lid3fromthetop.
Closing
Check whetherthe seal is positioned cor‐rectly in lid3.
Insert lid3intothe bracket attherear ofthe fuse box.
Fold down lid3ofthe fuse box and tightenscrews4.
Insert cover1on bothsides.
Turnclips2on cover1clockwise aquar‐ter-turn.
Closethe hood.
