The engine isrestarted automatically if:

Ryou depressthe accelerator pedal.
Ran automatic enginestart is necessary.
Ifthe enginewas switched offbythe ECOstart/stop function andyou leavethevehicle, awarn‐ingtone sounds andthe engine is notrestarted.TheVehicle Operational Switch the Ignition OffBefore Exitingdisplay message also appears inthe multifunction display.Ifyou do not switchoffthe ignition,the ignition is automaticallyswitched off afterthree minutes.
Vehicles with a 48 V on-board electrical sys‐tem (EQ Boosttechnology)
The engine is switched off automatically inthefollowing situations if allvehicle conditionsforan automatic enginestop are met:
Ryou brakethevehicletoastandstill in trans‐mission position[or\\.
Ryou depressthe brake pedal while travelingat a low speed.
Ifyou switchonthe HOLD function or selectanother transmission position^,the engine willautomaticallystop inthefollowing situations:
Ryoustop behind avehiclethat is pullingaway.
Ryoustop at astop sign whenthere is novehi‐cle in front ofyou.

-the drive programAor;is selec‐ted,thevehicle moves at a speed of morethan15mph (20 km/h) and Glide modeis not activated.

Ryoureleasethe brake pedal,thevehicle isnot in Glide mode and itstartstomoveon agentle downhill gradient at a speed below2mph (3km/h).
Ryou depressthe accelerator pedal.
Ran automatic enginestart is necessary.

Deactivating or activatingthe ECOstart/stop function
Press button1.If indicator lamp2lights up,the ECOstart/stop function is activated.
Depending onthe model andthevehicleequipment,the button may also be locatedat a different position inthe center console.
ECO display function
The ECO display summarizesthe drivingcharac‐teristics fromthestart ofthe journeytoits com‐pletion and assistsyou in achievingthe mosteconomical drivingstyle.

Usethe DIRECT SELECT levertoshiftthe trans‐mission position. The current transmission posi‐tion is displayed inthe multifunction display.

\nWARNINGRisk of skidding and of anaccident duetoshifting down on slipperyroad surfaces
Ifyou shift down on slipperyroad surfacestoincreasethe engine braking effect,the drivewheels may lose traction.
Do not shift down on slipperyroad sur‐facestoincreasethe engine brakingeffect.
Whenthe automatic transmission is shiftedtoposition[,you can manually shift it withthe
steering wheel paddle shifter.If permitted,theautomatic transmission shiftstothe nextgearup or down depending onthesteering wheelpaddle shifter being pulled.
You havetwo optionstomanually shiftthe auto‐matic transmission:
RTemporary setting
RPermanent setting
Thegears shift automatically when manualgear‐shifting is deactivated.
Temporary setting:
Toactivate:pullsteering wheel paddleshifter1or2.Manualgearshifting is activatedfor a shorttime. The currentgear is displayed inthemultifunction display.
How longthe manualgearshiftingstays acti‐vated is dependent onthe drivingstyle.

Maximum acceleration:depressthe accel‐erator pedal beyondthe pressure point.
The automatic transmission shifts uptothe nextgear whenthe maximum engine speed isreachedtoprotectthe engine fromoverrevving.
Glide mode function

Withan anticipatory drivingstyle,glide modehelpsyoutoreduce fuel consumption.
Glide mode ischaracterizedbythefollowing:
Rthe combustion engine is disconnected fromthe drivetrain andthe engine continuestorun in neutral.
Rthe transmission position[is displayed ingreen inthe multifunction display.
Glide mode is activated ifthefollowing condi‐tions are met:
Rdrive program;is selected.
Rthe speed is within a suitablerange.
Rtheroad's course is suitable, e.g. nosteepuphill or downhill inclines or tight bends.
Ryou are no longer depressingthe acceleratoror brake pedal.

Problems withthe transmission
