Event Data Recorder (U.S.A. and Canada)
This vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder (EDR). The main purpose of an EDR is
to record, in certain crash or ne ar crash-like situations, such as an air bag deployment or
hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in understanding how a vehicle’s systems
performed. The EDR is designed to record data related to vehicl e dynamics and safety
systems for a short period of time, typically 30 seconds or les s. The EDR in this vehicle is
designed to record such data as:
How various systems in you r vehicle were operating;
Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckl ed/fastened;
How far (if at all) the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; and,
How fast the vehicle was traveling.
These data can help provide a better understanding of the circu mstances in which crashes
and injuries occur.
NOTE:
EDR data are recorded by your vehicle only if a non-trivial cra sh or near crash-like situation
occurs; no data are recorded by the EDR under normal driving co nditions and no personal
data (e.g., name, gender, age, an d crash location) are recorded. However, other parties, such
as law enforcement, could combine the EDR data with the type of personally identifying
data routinely acquired du ring a crash investigation.
To read data recorded by an EDR, special equipment is required, and access to the vehicle or
the EDR is needed. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer, oth er parties, such as law
enforcement, that have the special equipment, can read the info rmation if they have access
to the vehicle or the EDR.
Mazda will not disclose any of the data recorded in an EDR to a third party unless:
A written agreement from the vehicle owner or the lessee is obtained
Officially requested by the police or other law enforcement authorities
Used as a defense for Mazda in a lawsuit, claim, or arbitration
Ordered by a judge or court
However, if necessary Mazda will:
Use the data for research on Mazda vehicle performance, includi ng safety.
Disclose the data or the summarized data to a third party for research purposes without
disclosing vehicle or owner identification information.

Recording of Vehicle Data
This vehicle is equipped with a computer which records the following main vehicle data
related to vehicle controls, ope ration, and other driving conditions.
Recorded data
Vehicle conditions such as engine speed and vehicle speed
Driving operation conditions such as accelerator and brake peda ls, and information related
to the environmental circumstances while the vehicle is driven
Malfunction diagnosis i nformation from each on-vehicle computer
Information related to controls of other on-vehicle computers
NOTE
The recorded data may vary depending on the vehicle grade and optional equipment. Voice
and images are not recorded.
Data handling
Mazda and its subcontracting parties may obtain and use the rec orded data for vehicle
malfunction diagnosis, research and development, and quality im provement.
Mazda will not disclose or provide any of the obtained data to a third party unless:
An agreement from the vehicle owner (agreements from lessor and lessee for leased
vehicle) is obtained
Officially requested by the police or other law enforcement aut horities
For statistical processing by a research institution after processing the data so that
identification of the owner o r the vehicle is impossible

Original Equipment (OE): Describes components originally equipped on the vehicle.
Vehicle Load Limit: The maximum value of the combination weight of occupants and
cargo.
Bead Area of the Tire: Area of the tire next to the rim.
Sidewall Area of the Tire: Area between the bead area and the tread.
Tread Area of the Tire: Area on the perimeter of the tire that contacts the road when it's
mounted on the vehicle.
Seating capacity means the total allowable number of vehicle occupants. Seating capacity
is described on the tire label.
Production options weight is the combination weight of installed regular production
options weighing over 2.3 kilogram s in excess of the standard items which they replace, and
not previously considered in the curb weight or accessory weigh t, including heavy duty
brakes, ride levelers, roof rack, heavy duty battery, and speci al trim.
Rim is the metal support (wheel) fo r a tire or a tire and tube assembly upon which the tire
beads are seated.

This section will guide you in the proper loading of your vehicle and/or trailer, to keep your
loaded vehicle weigh t within its design rating capability, with or without a trailer. Properly
loading your vehicle will provide maximum return of vehicle des ign performance. Before
loading your vehicle, familiarize yourself with the following t erms for determining your
vehicle's weight ratings, with o r without a trailer, from the vehicle's Safety Certification
Label and Tire and Load Information Label:
WA R N I N G
Overloaded Vehicle:
Overloading a vehicle is dangerous. The results of overloading can have serious consequences
in terms of passenger safety. Too much weight on a vehicle's suspension system can cause
spring or shock absorber failure, brake failu re, handling or steering problems, irregular tire
wear, tire failure or other damage.
Overloading makes a vehicle harder to drive an d control. It also increases the distance
required for stopping. In cases of serious overloading, brakes can fail completely, particularly
on steep grades. The load a tire will carry safely is a combination of the size of the tire, its load
range, and corresponding inflation pressure.
Never overload the vehicle and always observe th e vehicle's weight ratings from the vehicle's
Safety Certification and Tire and Load Information labels.
Base Curb Weight is the weight o f the vehicle including a full tank of fuel and all
standard equipment. It does not i nclude passengers, cargo, or optional equipment.
Vehicle Curb Weight is the weight of your new vehicle when you picked it up from y our
dealer plus any aftermarket equipment.

Always keep the vehicle within the axle weight rating limits.
GCW
GCW (Gross Combination Weight) is the weight of the loaded vehicle (GVW) plus the
weight of the fu lly loaded trailer.
GCWR (Gross Combination Weight Rating) is the maximum allowable weight of the
vehicle and the loaded trailer - including all cargo and passen gers - that the vehicle can
handle without risking damage. (Important: The towing vehicle's braking system is rated for
operation at GVWR, not at GCWR. Separate functional brakes shou ld be used for safe
control of towed vehicles and for trailers weighing more than 1,500 lbs). The GCW must
never exceed the GCWR.
Maximum Loaded Trailer Weight is the highest possible weight of a fully loaded trailer
the vehicle can tow. It assumes a vehicle with only mandatory o ptions, no cargo (internal or
external), a tongue load of 10 -15% (conventional trailer) or king pin weight of 15-25%
(fifth-wheel trailer), and driver only (150 lbs). Consult your dealership (or the RV and
Trailer Towing Guide provided by your dealership) for more detailed information.
Tongue Load or Fifth-Wheel King Pin Weight refers to the amount of the weight that a
trailer pushes down on a trailer hitch.
Examples: For a 5000 lb conventional trailer, multiply 5000 by 0.10 and 0.15 to obtain a
proper tongue load range of 500 to 750 lbs. For an 11,500 lb fi fth-wheel trailer, multiply by
0.15 and 0.25 to obtain a proper king pin load range of 1,725 t o 2,875 lbs.
