in the area such as street lamps,
illuminated signboards, and traffic
signals.
xWhen there are reflective objects in
the surrounding area such as
reflective plates and signs.
xWhen visibility is reduced under rain,
snow and foggy conditions.
xWhen driving on roads with sharp
curves or undulations.
xWhen the headlights/rear lamps of
vehicles ahead or in the opposite
lane are dim or not illuminated.
xWhen there is insufficient darkness
such as at dawn or dusk.
xWhen the luggage compartment is
loaded with heavy objects or the rear
passenger seats are occupied.
xWhen visibility is reduced due to a
vehicle ahead spraying water from its
tyres onto your windscreen.
▼To Operate the System
The ALH operates to control Glare-Free
High Beam, Wide-Range Low Beam
and Highway Mode automatically after
the ignition is switched ON and the
headlight switch is in the
and
low beam position.
The ALH determines that it is dark
based on the brightness of the
surrounding area. At the same time,
the ALH indicator light (green) in the
instrument cluster illuminates.
NOTE
Operation of the ALH function can be
disabled.

▼Manual Switching
Switching to low beams
Switch the headlight switch to the
position, or press the ALH switch.
The ALH indicator light (green) turns
off.
1. ALH switch

If the ALH is turned off using the ALH
switch, press the ALH switch again to
turn the ALH back on.
Switching to high beams
Shift the lever to the high beam
position.
The ALH indicator light (green) turns
off and the headlight high-beam
indicator light is illuminated.

xThe road surface is wet and shiny
after rain, or there are puddles on
the road.
xThe width of a lane is excessively
narrow.
xThe vehicle is driven on roads with
tight curves.
xHeavy luggage is loaded in the
luggage compartment or on the rear
seat causing the vehicle to tilt.
xThe vehicle is driven through a fork in
the road or a junction.
xThe shade of a guardrail parallel to a
white (yellow) lane line is cast on the
road.
xThe illumination of the headlights is
weakened because of dirt or the
optical axis is deviated at night.
xThe road is excessively uneven.xThe vehicle is shaken after hitting a
road bump.
xA vehicle in front of your vehicle is
running near a white (yellow) lane
line making it less visible.
xThe windscreen is dirty or foggy.xStrong light is directed from the front
of the vehicle (such as sunlight, or
headlights (high-beam) of
on-coming vehicles).
xThe vehicle is driven through an
intersection or a roundabout.
▼When the System Operates
When the ignition is switched ON, the
i-ACTIVSENSE status symbol (warning/
risk avoidance support system) (white)
turns on and the system goes on
standby.
NOTE
If the i-ACTIVSENSE status symbol
(warning/risk avoidance support
system) (white) does not turn on, the
system is cancelled using the
i-ACTIVSENSE switch or the
personalisation feature.
Operation conditions
When all of the following conditions
are met, the i-ACTIVSENSE status
symbol (warning/risk avoidance
support system) on the
multi-information display changes
from white to green and the system
becomes operational.
xThe ignition is switched ON.xThe vehicle speed is about 60 km/h
(37 mph) or faster.
xThe system detects white (yellow)
lane lines.
NOTE
When the system does not detect a
white (yellow) lane line on one side
only, the system does not operate on
the side that is not being detected.
When temporarily cancelling the
system
The LDWS goes on standby in the
following cases: The LDWS operation
is automatically restored when the
system's operation conditions are met.
xThe system cannot detect white
(yellow) lane lines.
xThe vehicle speed is less than about
55 km/h (34 mph).
xThe direction indicator lever is
operated.
xThe accelerator pedal is depressed.

xThe steering wheel is operated.xThe brake pedal is operated.
The function is temporarily stopped.
The LDWS stops functioning in the
following cases:
xThe temperature in the forward
sensing camera (FSC) is too high or
too low.
xThe windscreen around the forward
sensing camera (FSC) is foggy.
xThe windscreen around the forward
sensing camera (FSC) is blocked by
an obstruction, causing poor forward
visibility.
xStrong light (such as sunlight, or
headlights (high-beam) of
on-coming vehicles) is directed at
the forward sensing camera (FSC).
System malfunction
If there is a problem with the system,
the i-ACTIVSENSE status symbol
(warning/risk avoidance support
system) (white) and the i-ACTIVSENSE
warning indication/warning light on
the multi-information display turns on
and a message is indicated.

▼Lane Departure Warning
If the system determines that the
vehicle may deviate from its lane, a
warning (beep sound, steering wheel
vibration) is activated and the direction
in which the system determines that
the vehicle may deviate is indicated on
the multi-information display and the
active driving display.

xThe LDWS settings can be changed.

xYou may not be able to hear the
LDWS warning sound depending on
the surrounding conditions such as
outside noise.
xIf you set the LDWS to vibrate the
steering wheel, you may not feel the
vibrations depending on the road
surface conditions.

2. Detection areas
WARNING
Always check the surrounding area
visually before making an actual lane
change:
The system is only designed to assist
you in checking for vehicles at your rear
when making a lane change. Due to
certain limitations with the operation
of this system, the BSM warning
indicator light, the warning sound and
the warning screen indicator display
may not activate or they might be
delayed even though a vehicle is in an
adjacent driving lane. Always make it
your responsibility as a driver to check
the rear.
NOTE
xThe BSM will operate when all of the
following conditions are met:
xThe ignition is switched ON.xThe i-ACTIVSENSE warning
indication/warning light in the
instrument cluster is turned off.
xThe vehicle speed is about 30
km/h (19 mph) or faster.
xThe BSM will not operate under the
following circumstances.
xThe vehicle speed falls below
about 25 km/h (15 mph) even
though the i-ACTIVSENSE warning
indication/warning light is turned
off.
xThe shift lever (manual
transmission)/selector lever
(automatic transmission) is shifted
to reverse (R) and the vehicle is
reversing.
xThe turning radius is small (making
a sharp turn, turning at
intersections).
xIn the following cases, the
i-ACTIVSENSE warning indication/
warning light turns on and operation
of the system is stopped. If the
i-ACTIVSENSE warning indication/
warning light remains illuminated,
have the vehicle inspected at an
expert repairer (we recommend an
Authorised Mazda Repairer) as soon
as possible.
xSome problem with the system
including the BSM warning
indicator lights is detected.
xA large deviation in the installation
position of a rear side radar sensor
on the vehicle has occurred.
xThere is a large accumulation of
snow or ice on the rear bumper
near a rear side radar sensor.
Remove any snow, ice or mud on
the rear bumper.
xDriving on snow-covered roads for
long periods.
xThe temperature near the rear side
radar sensor becomes extremely
hot due to driving for long periods
on slopes during the summer.
xThe battery voltage has decreased.xUnder the following conditions, the
rear side radar sensor cannot detect
target objects or it may be difficult to
detect them.
xThe rear bumper around the rear
side radar sensor is deformed.
xRadio wave interference from a
radar sensor equipped on a nearby
vehicle.
xThe approaching vehicle is any of
the following shapes.
a) The size of the vehicle body is
extremely small.
b) The vehicle height is extremely
low or high.
c) A special type of vehicle with a
complex shape.

1. The walls at the entrance and
exits of tunnels, turnouts.

xA BSM warning indicator light may
flash or the warning beep may be
activated several times when making
a turn at a city intersection.
xTurn off the BSM while pulling a
trailer or while an accessory such as a
bicycle carrier is installed to the rear
of the vehicle. Otherwise, the radar’s
radio waves will be blocked causing
the system to not operate normally.
xIf a Mazda genuine trailer hitch is
used, the BSM is automatically
turned off.
xIn the following cases, it may be
difficult to view the illumination/
flashing of the BSM warning
indicator lights equipped on the
door mirrors.
xSnow or ice is adhering to the door
mirrors.
xThe front door glass is fogged or
covered in snow, frost or dirt.
xThe rear side radar sensor of the BSM
may be regulated under the radio
wave related laws of the country
where the vehicle is driven. If this
system is used abroad, it may be
necessary to turn off the system.

xThe system switches to the Rear

(BSM) Warning Beep
The BSM system notifies the driver of
the presence of vehicles in adjacent
lanes or at the rear of the vehicle using
the BSM warning indicator light, the
warning sound and the display
indicator while the systems are
operational.
BSM warning indicator lights
The BSM warning indicator lights are
equipped on the left and right door
mirrors. The warning indicator lights
turn on when a vehicle approaching
from the rear in an adjacent lane is
detected.
When the ignition is switched ON, the
warning indicator light turns on
momentarily and then turns off after a
few seconds.
Function for cancelling illumination
dimmer
If the BSM warning indicator lights turn
on when the position lights are turned
on, the brightness of the BSM warning
indicator lights is dimmed.
If the BSM warning indicator lights are
difficult to see due to glare from
surrounding brightness when travelling
on snow-covered roads or under foggy
conditions, press the dimmer
cancellation button to cancel the
dimmer and increase the brightness of

Display indicator
The detected approaching vehicle and
warning are displayed in the
multi-information display and active
driving display (vehicles with active
driving display).
Multi-information Display
Active Driving Display (vehicles with
active driving display)
The detected direction is displayed
with a detection indicator (white)
when an approaching vehicle is
detected. In addition, if the direction
indicator lever is operated to signal a
lane change while the vehicle is
detected, the display changes the
colour (amber) of the warning
indicator.
BSM warning beep
The BSM warning beep is activated
simultaneously with the flashing of a
BSM warning indicator light.

xThe TSR does not operate if there is a malfunction in the Forward Sensing Camera
(FSC).
xUnder the following conditions, the TSR may not operate normally.
xAn object placed on the instrument panel is reflected in the windscreen and
picked up by the camera.
xHeavy luggage is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat and the
vehicle is tilted.
xThe tyre pressures are not adjusted to the specified pressure.xTyres other than standard tyres are equipped.xThe vehicle is driven on the ramp and surrounding area to or from a rest area or
a tollgate on a highway.
xWhen surrounding brightness suddenly changes such as when entering or exiting
a tunnel.
xThe illumination of the headlights is weakened because of dirt or the optical axis
is deviated.
xThe windscreen is dirty or foggy.xThe windscreen and camera are fogged (water droplets).xStrong light is directed at the front of the vehicle (such as backlight or high-beam
headlights of on-coming vehicles).
xThe vehicle is making a sharp turn.xStrong light reflects off the road.xA traffic sign is in a position which makes it difficult to reflect the light from the
vehicle's headlights, such as when the vehicle is driven at night or in a tunnel.
xThe vehicle is driven under weather conditions such as rain, fog, or snow.xThe stored map data for the navigation system is not current.xA traffic sign is obscured by mud or snow.xA traffic sign is concealed by trees or a vehicle.xA
traffic sign is partially shaded.xA traffic sign is bent or warped.xA
traffic sign is too low or too high.xA traffic sign is too bright or too dark (including electronic traffic signs).xA traffic sign is too big or too small.xThere is an object similar to the traffic sign being read (such as another traffic
sign or other signs resembling it).
xThe TSR can be set to invisible on the active driving display.

The RCTA system is designed to assist
the driver in checking the area to the
rear left and right sides of your vehicle
while your vehicle is reversing by
alerting the driver to the presence of
vehicles approaching the rear of your
vehicle.
The RCTA system detects vehicles
approaching from the rear left and
right sides of your vehicle and the rear
of your vehicle while your vehicle is
being reversed out of a parking space,
and notifies the driver of possible
danger using the Blind Spot Monitoring
(BSM) warning indicator lights and the
warning buzzer.
