accelerator pedal and brake pedal are
depressed at the same time while
driving.
Release the accelerator pedal and
depress the brake pedal.
▼Check Engine Indication/Light
If this light illuminates while driving ,
the vehicle may have a problem. It is
important to note the driving
conditions when the light illuminated
and consult an expert repairer (we
recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer).
The check engine light may illuminate
in the following cases:
xThe engine's electrical system has a
problem.
xThe emission control system has a
problem.
x(Except SKYACTIV-D 1.8)
xThe fuel tank level being very low
or approaching empty.
xThe
fuel-filler cap is missing or not
tightened securely.
If the check engine light remains on, or
it flashes continuously , do not drive at
high speeds and consult an expert
repairer (we recommend an
Authorised Mazda Repairer) as soon as
possible.
WARNING
If the check engine light turns on, do
not disconnect the battery leads.
If the battery leads are disconnected
and then reconnected, the engine
could be damaged and catch on
fire.
▼i-stop Warning Indication/
Warning Light (Amber)*

indicated under the following
conditions. Have your vehicle
inspected at an expert repairer (we
recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer).
xThe light does not turn on when
the ignition is switched ON.
x(Except European model)
If the i-stop warning light (amber)

displayed/When the light is turned on
The particulate matter (PM) cannot be
removed automatically and the
amount of collected PM reaches a
specified amount.
After the engine has sufficiently
warmed up (engine coolant
temperature of 80 °C (176 °F) or
more), depress the accelerator pedal
and drive the vehicle at a speed of 20
km/h (12 mph) or more for about 30
minutes to eliminate the PM.
“Abnormal Soot Levels in Filter. Have
the Vehicle Inspected.” is displayed/
When the light is
flashing
Contact an expert repairer (we
recommend an Authorised Mazda

CAUTION
If the vehicle is continually driven as
usual with the petrol particulate filter
warning light illuminated, PM increases
and the warning light may start
flashing. If the petrol particulate filter
warning light starts flashing, have the
vehicle inspected immediately at an
expert repairer (we recommend an
Authorised Mazda Repairer). If the
vehicle is not inspected and continues
to be driven, the engine may
malfunction.
NOTE
xWhen the petrol particulate filter
warning light flashes, the engine
output is restricted to protect the
petrol particulate filter.
xThe engine sound and exhaust gas
smell may change when PM is being
removed while driving.

*1 This spark plug provides the SKYACTIV-G engine with optimum performance. Consult an expert
repairer (we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer) for details.
*2 Because the SKYACTIV-X 2.0 is a high compression ratio engine, the piston and plugs are close to
each other. If the replacement is not done using the correct procedure or a non-genuine plug is used,
the engine could be damaged. Consult an expert repairer (we recommend an Authorised Mazda
Repairer) for details.
CAUTION
When cleaning the iridium plugs, do not use a wire brush. The fine particulate
coating on the iridium alloy and platinum tips could be damaged.
