Your vehicle may be equipped with atemporary or conventional spare tire. Atemporary spare tire is different in size(diameter or width), tread-type (All-Seasonor All-Terrain) or is from a differentmanufacturer than the road tires on yourvehicle. Consult information on the tire labelor Safety Compliance label for limitationswhen using.
Launching or Retrieving a Boat orPersonal Watercraft (PWC)
Note:Disconnect the wiring to the trailerbefore backing the trailer into the water.
Note:Reconnect the wiring to the trailerafter removing the trailer from the water.
When backing down a ramp during boatlaunching or retrieval:
•Do not allow the static water level to riseabove the bottom edge of the rearbumper.
•Do not allow waves to break higher than6 in (15 cm) above the bottom edge ofthe rear bumper.
Exceeding these limits may allow water toenter vehicle components:
•Causing internal damage to thecomponents.
•Affecting driveability, emissions, andreliability.
Replace the rear axle lubricant anytime therear axle has been submerged in water.Water may have contaminated the rear axlelubricant, which is not normally checked orchanged unless a leak is suspected or otheraxle repair is required.
TOWING THE VEHICLE ON FOUR

WARNING: If your vehicle has asteering wheel lock make sure the ignitionis in the accessory or on position whenbeing towed.
Recreational Towing
Note:Put your climate control system inrecirculated air mode to prevent exhaustfumes from entering your vehicle. SeeClimate Control (page 152).
Follow these guidelines if you have a needfor recreational towing, such as towing yourvehicle behind a motorhome. Theseguidelines are designed to prevent damageto your transmission.
Two-wheel Drive Vehicles
You cannot tow a two-wheel drive vehiclewith any wheels on the ground as vehicle ortransmission damage may occur. You musttow your vehicle with all four wheels off theground, for example when using acar-hauling trailer.

Four-wheel Drive Vehicles Without 4x4LOW
If your vehicle does not have 4x4 Low, youcannot tow your vehicle with any wheels onthe ground or vehicle damage may occur.You must tow your vehicle with all fourwheels off the ground, for example whenusing a car-hauling trailer.
Four-wheel Drive Vehicles With 4x4 LOW
You can only tow a vehicle with 4X4 LOWwith all wheels on the ground by placing thetransfer case in its neutral position andengaging the four wheel down towingfeature. Perform the steps outlined in thefollowing section after positioning yourvehicle behind the tow vehicle and properlysecuring them together.
Four-wheel-down Towing
Note:If completed successfully, theinformation display shows Neutral TowEnabled Leave Transmission in Neutral.This indicates that your vehicle is safe to towwith all wheels on the ground.
Note:If you do not see the message in theinformation display, you must perform theprocedure again from the beginning.
Note:Make sure you properly secure yourvehicle to the tow vehicle.
1. Start your vehicle.
2. Confirm that your vehicle is in NORMALmode. See Drive Mode Control (page284).
3. Place your vehicle in stay in neutralmode. See Automatic Transmission(page 210).
4. Switch your vehicle off by pressing theengine START/STOP button once. ATransmission Not in Park messageappears in the information display.
5.Place your vehicle in accessory mode bypressing the start button once withoutpressing the brake pedal.
6. Press and hold the brake pedal.
7. Enable neutral tow through theinformation display by selecting Settingsfrom the menu. See General Information(page 120).
8. Then select Advanced Settings.
9. Then select Vehicle.
10. Then select Neutral Tow.
11. Press and hold the OK button until theinformation display states Neutral TowEnabled Leave Transmission inNeutral.
Note:If completed successfully, theinformation display shows Neutral TowEnabled Leave Transmission in Neutral.This indicates that your vehicle is safe to towwith all wheels on the ground.
Note:If you do not see the message in theinformation display, you must perform theprocedure again from the beginning.
Note:You may hear an audible noise as thetransfer case shifts into neutral, this isnormal.
12. Leave the transmission in neutral (N)and switch the ignition off by pressingthe engine START/STOP button oncewithout pressing the brake pedal. Youdo not need to leave your keys in thevehicle. You can lock and unlock yourvehicle as you normally do.

WARNING: Do not disconnect thebattery during recreational towing. Itprevents the transfer case from shiftingproperly and may cause the vehicle to roll,even if the transmission is in park (P).
WARNING: Shifting the transfer caseto its neutral position for recreationaltowing may cause the vehicle to roll, evenif the transmission is in park (P). It mayinjure the driver and others. Make sure youpress the foot brake and the vehicle is ina secure, safe position when you shift toneutral (N).
Note:Failing to put the transfer case in itsneutral position can damage vehiclecomponents.
Note:You can check four-wheel-downtowing status at any time by opening thedriver's door or turning the ignition to theaccessory or on position. A messageappears in the information display confirmingyour vehicle is in neutral tow.
To exit four-wheel-down towing and returnthe transfer case to its 2H position:
1. With your vehicle still properly securedto the tow vehicle, press the brake pedaland start the engine.
2. Switch your vehicle off by pressing theengine START/STOP button once.
3.Place your vehicle in accessory mode bypressing the start button once withoutpressing the brake pedal.
4. Press the brake pedal.
5.Place the transmission back into park (P).
6. Release the brake pedal.
Note:If completed successfully, theinformation display shows 2H and NeutralTow Disabled.
Note:If the indicator light and message donot display, you must perform the procedureagain from the beginning.
Note:You may hear an audible noise as thetransfer case shifts out of its neutral position,this is normal.
Note:If Shift Delayed Pull Forward displaysin the instrument cluster, transfer case geartooth blockage is present. See theinstructions following this section.
7.Apply the parking brake, then disconnectyour vehicle from the tow vehicle.
8. Release the parking brake, start theengine, and shift the transmission intodrive (D) to make sure the transfer caseis out of the neutral tow position.
9.If the transfer case does not successfullyshift out of neutral (N), set the parkingbrake until you can have your vehicleserviced.
Resolving the Shift Delayed Pull Forwardor To Exit 4x4 LOW Shift to N Message
If the instrument cluster displays thesemessages, perform the following:
1. Press and hold the brake pedal.
2.Put the transmission into neutral (N), thenstart the engine.
3. With the engine running, shift thetransmission into drive (D) and let thevehicle roll forward, up to 3 ft (1 m). Youmay hear an audible noise as the transfercase shifts out of its neutral position. Thisis normal.

Vehicles Sold in the United States:Getting Roadside Assistance
To fully assist you should you have a vehicleconcern, Lincoln Motor Company offers acomplimentary roadside assistance program.This program is separate from the NewVehicle Limited Warranty.
The service is available:
•Throughout the life of the vehicle fororiginal owners.
•For six years or 70,000 mi (110,000 km)(whichever comes first) for subsequentowners.
Roadside Assistance covers:
•A flat tire change with a good spare(except vehicles supplied with a tireinflation kit).
•Battery jump start.
•Lock-out assistance (key replacementcost is the client's responsibility).
•Fuel delivery — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law shall deliver up to2 gal (8 L) of gasoline or 5 gal (20 L) ofdiesel fuel to a disabled vehicle.Roadside Assistance limits fuel deliveryservice to two no-charge occurrenceswithin a 12-month period.
•Winch out — available within 100 ft (30 m)of a paved or county maintained road,no recoveries.
•Towing — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law shall tow Lincolneligible vehicles to the client's selling orpreferred dealer within 100 mi (160 km)of the disablement location or to thenearest Lincoln dealer. If a client requestsa tow to a selling or preferred dealer thatis more than 100 mi (160 km) from thedisablement location, the client isresponsible for any mileage costs inexcess of 100 mi (160 km).
•Roadside Assistance includes up to $200for a towed trailer if the disabled eligiblevehicle requires service at the nearestauthorized dealer. If the towing vehicleis operational but the trailer is not, thenthe trailer does not qualify for anyroadside services.

HAZARD FLASHERS
Note:The hazard flashers operate when theignition is in any position, or if the key is notin the ignition. If used when the vehicle is notrunning, the battery loses charge. As a result,there may be insufficient power to restartyour vehicle.
The flasher control is on theinstrument panel. Use your hazardflashers when your vehicle iscreating a safety hazard for other motorists.
•Press the flasher control and all front andrear direction indicators flash.
•Press the button again to switch them off.
FUEL SHUTOFF
WARNING: If your vehicle has beeninvolved in a crash, have the fuel systemchecked. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in fire, personal injury or death.
Note: When you try to restart your vehicleafter a fuel shutoff, the vehicle makes surethat various systems are safe to restart. Once the vehicle determines the systemsare safe, then the vehicle allows you torestart.
Note: In the event that your vehicle doesnot restart after your third attempt, contacta qualified technician.
The fuel pump shutoff stops the flow of fuelto the engine in the event of a moderate tosevere crash. Not every impact causes ashutoff.
Should your vehicle shut off after a crash,you may restart your vehicle.

TRANSPORTING THE VEHICLEIf you need to tow your vehicle, contact aprofessional towing service or, if you are amember of a roadside assistance program,your roadside assistance service provider.
We recommend the use of a wheel lift anddollies or flatbed equipment to tow yourvehicle. Do not tow with a slingbelt. We donot approve a slingbelt towing procedure. Ifyou tow your vehicle incorrectly, or by anyother means, vehicle damage may occur.
We produce a towing manual for allauthorized tow truck operators. Have yourtow truck operator refer to this manual forproper hook-up and towing procedures foryour vehicle.
We recommend towing a four-wheel drivevehicle with all wheels off the ground, suchas using a wheel lift and dollies or flatbedequipment.
We recommend towing a rear-wheel drivevehicle with the rear wheels on a tow dollywhen towing your vehicle from the frontusing wheel lift equipment. This preventsdamage to the transmission.
We recommend towing a rear-wheel drivevehicle with the front wheels on a tow dollywhen towing your vehicle from the rear usingwheel lift equipment. This prevents damageto the front fascia.
TOWING POINTS
WARNING: Switch the ignition offbefore removing the recovery hook. Failureto do so could result in personal injury.
WARNING: The recovery hook canbecome hot. Let the recovery hook cooldown before removing it. Failure to do socould result in personal injury.
Your vehicle comes with frame-mountedfront recovery hooks. These hooks shouldnever have a load applied to them greaterthan the gross vehicle weight rating of yourvehicle.

Dissimilar Spare Wheel and TireAssembly Information
WARNING: Failure to follow theseguidelines could result in an increased riskof loss of vehicle control, injury or death.
If you have a dissimilar spare wheel and tire,then it is intended for temporary use only.This means that if you need to use it, youshould replace it as soon as possible with aroad wheel and tire assembly that is thesame size and type as the road tires andwheels that were originally provided. If thedissimilar spare tire or wheel is damaged, itshould be replaced rather than repaired.
A dissimilar spare wheel and tire assemblyis defined as a spare wheel and tire assemblythat is different in brand, size or appearancefrom the road tires and wheels.
Full-size dissimilar spare
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly, do not:
•Exceed 70 mph (113 km/h).
•Use more than one dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly at a time.
•Use snow chains on the end of thevehicle with the dissimilar spare wheeland tire assembly.
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly, it isrecommended that you do not:
•Exceed 50 mph (80 km/h) in 4WD.
•Engage 4WD unless the vehicle isstationary.
•Use 4WD on dry pavement.
The usage of a full-size dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly can lead toimpairment of the following:
•Handling, stability and brakingperformance.
•Comfort and noise.
•Ground clearance and parking at curbs.
•Winter weather driving capability.
•Wet weather driving capability.
•Four-wheel driving capability.
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly additionalcaution should be given to:
•Towing a trailer.
•Driving vehicles equipped with a camperbody.
•Driving vehicles with a load on the cargorack.
Drive cautiously when using a full-sizedissimilar spare wheel and tire assembly andseek service as soon as possible.
