The Personal Safety System provides animproved overall level of frontal crashprotection to front seat occupants and isdesigned to help further reduce the risk ofairbag-related injuries. The system is able toanalyze different occupant conditions andcrash severity before activating theappropriate safety devices to help betterprotect a range of occupants in a variety offrontal crash situations.
The Vehicle Personal Safety System consistsof:
•Driver and passenger dual-stage airbagsupplemental restraints.
•Front seat outermost seatbelts withpretensioners, energy managementretractors and seatbelt usage sensors.
•Driver seat position sensor.
•Passenger seat position sensor.
•Front passenger sensing system.
•Passenger airbag off and on indicators.
•Front crash severity sensors.
•Restraints control module with impactand safing sensors.
•Restraint system warning lamp and tone.
•The electrical wiring for the airbags, crashsensors, seatbelt pretensioners, frontseatbelt usage sensors, driver seatposition sensor, front passenger sensingsystem and indicators.
How Does the Personal Safety SystemWork?
The Personal Safety System can adapt thedeployment strategy of the safety devicesaccording to crash severity and occupantconditions. A collection of crash andoccupant sensors provides information tothe restraints control module. During a crash, the restraints control module may deploy theseatbelt pretensioners, one or both stagesof the dual-stage airbags based on crashseverity and occupant conditions.

GENERAL INFORMATION
WARNING: This battery pack shouldonly be serviced by an authorized electricvehicle technician. Improper handling canresult in personal injury or death.
Note:The high-voltage battery does notrequire regular service maintenance.
Your vehicle consists of various high-voltagecomponents and wiring. All of thehigh-voltage power flows through specificwiring assemblies which are labeled as suchor are covered with a solid orange convolute,or orange striped tape, or both. Do not comein contact with these components.
The high-voltage battery system is ahigh-voltage, lithium-ion battery system. Thepack is located in the rear cargo area. Thehigh-voltage battery system uses an aircooled system to regulate the high-voltagebattery temperature and help maximizehigh-voltage battery life.
Note:The high-voltage battery is equippedwith air vents in the package tray that helpto regulate its temperature. It is important tokeep these openings free of obstructions.Do not block the flow of cabin air to thisarea.
HIGH-VOLTAGE SERVICEDISCONNECT
The high-voltage service disconnect shutsoff power from the high-voltage battery.
Note:There is a disconnect circuit in yourvehicle. Disconnecting the circuit disablesthe high-voltage battery.
To disable the battery and stop allhigh-voltage electric activity in your vehicle, access the high-voltage disconnect circuit.
The high-voltage service disconnect islocated behind the rear fold down seats.
Note:The service disconnect has an outerlever to aid in the proper seating of theservice disconnect lever. Remove this todisconnect the high-voltage servicedisconnect.
Disabling the High-Voltage Battery
1. Fold down the rear seats.

2. Slightly lift the hood.
3. Release the hood latch by pushing thesecondary release lever to your left-handside.
4.Open the hood. The hood strut supportsthe hood.
Closing the Hood
1. Lower the hood and allow it to dropunder its own weight for the last 8–12 in(20–30 cm).
Note:Make sure that the hood is correctlyclosed.
UNDER HOOD OVERVIEW
WARNING: The inverter systemcontroller contains various high-voltagecomponents that can cause serious bodilyharm or death. The inverter system controlleris not serviceable and should never betouched, probed, or tampered with.
Note:Do not attempt to service any of thehigh-voltage components or wiring. Foreasier identification, the high-voltage wiringinsulation is color coated orange.

COMPATIBILITY
WARNING: Do not place objects ormount equipment on or near the airbagcover, on the side of the seatbacks (of thefront seats), or in front seat areas that maycome into contact with a deploying airbag.Failure to follow these instructions mayincrease the risk of personal injury in theevent of a crash.
WARNING: Do not fasten antennacables to original vehicle wiring, fuel pipesand brake pipes.
WARNING: Keep antenna and powercables at least 4 in (10 cm) from anyelectronic modules and airbags.
Note:We test and certify your vehicle tomeet electromagnetic compatibilitylegislation (UNECE Regulation 10 or otherapplicable local requirements). It is yourresponsibility to make sure that anyequipment an authorized dealer installs onyour vehicle complies with applicable locallegislation and other requirements.
