WARNING: All occupants of yourvehicle, including the driver, should alwaysproperly wear their seatbelts, even whenan airbag supplemental restraint system isprovided. Failure to properly wear yourseatbelt could seriously increase the riskof injury or death.
WARNING: To reduce risk of injury,do not obstruct or place objects in thedeployment path of the airbag.
WARNING: If a supplementaryrestraint system component has deployed,it will not function again. Have the systemand associated components inspected assoon as possible. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injuryor death.
The Safety Canopy will deploy duringsignificant side crashes or when a certainlikelihood of a rollover event is detected bythe rollover sensor. The Safety Canopy ismounted to the roof side-rail sheet metal,behind the headliner, above each row of
seats. In certain sideways crashes or rolloverevents, the Safety Canopy will be activated,regardless of which seats are occupied. TheSafety Canopy is designed to inflate betweenthe side window area and occupants tofurther enhance protection provided in sideimpact crashes and rollover events.
The system consists of the following:
•Safety canopy curtain airbags above thetrim panels over the front and rear sidewindows identified by a label or wordingon the headliner or roof-pillar trim.
•A flexible headliner which opens abovethe side doors to allow air curtaindeployment
· Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with readiness indicator.See Crash Sensors and AirbagIndicator (page 57).
Always properly restrain children 12 yearsold and under in the rear seats. The SafetyCanopy will not interfere with childrenrestrained using a properly installed child orbooster seat because it is designed to inflatedownward from the headliner above thedoors along the side window opening.

•The battery voltage is below theminimum operating voltage.
•The service engine soon indicator wason the last time your vehicle was driven.
Remote Starting your Vehicle
Note: You must press each button withinthree seconds of each other. If you do notfollow this sequence, your vehicle does notstart remotely, the direction indicators donot flash twice and the horn does not sound.
To start your vehicle remotely:
1. Press the lock button to lock all thedoors.
2.Press the remote start button twice. Theexterior lamps flash twice.
The horn sounds if the system fails to start,unless quiet start is on. Quiet start runs theblower fan at a slower speed to reducenoise. You can switch this feature on or offin the information display. See GeneralInformation (page 105).
Note:You must press the push buttonignition switch on the instrument panel oncewhile applying the brake pedal beforedriving your vehicle.
The power windows do not work duringremote start and the radio does not turn onautomatically.
The parking lamps remain on and the vehicleruns for 5, 10 or 15 minutes, depending onthe setting.
Extending the Engine Running Time
To extend the engine running time durationof your vehicle during remote start, repeatsteps 1 and 2 while the engine is running. Ifthe duration is set to 10 minutes, the durationextends by another 10 minutes. For example,if your vehicle had been running from thefirst remote start for 5 minutes, your vehiclecontinues to run now for a total of 20minutes. You can extend the remote startup to a maximum of 35 minutes.
Wait at least five seconds before remotestarting after the engine stops running.
Turning Your Vehicle Off After RemoteStarting
Press the button once. Theparking lamps switch off.
You may have to be closer to your vehicleto remotely switch off your vehicle afterremote starting. This is due to the addednoise of your running vehicle.
You can switch this feature on or off in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 105).

Illuminated Entry
The interior lamps and some exterior lampsilluminate when you unlock the doors withthe remote control.
The lamps turn off if:
•The ignition is on.
•You press the remote control lock button.
•25 seconds have elapsed.
The lamps do not turn off if:
•You switch them on with the lightingcontrol.
•Any door is open.
Illuminated Exit
The interior lamps and some exterior lampsilluminate when all doors are closed and youswitch the ignition off.
The lamps turn off if all the doors remainclosed and:
•25 seconds have elapsed.
•You lock your vehicle from the outside.
Battery Saver
If you leave the courtesy lamps, interiorlamps or headlamps on, the battery savershuts them off 10 minutes after you switchthe ignition off.
Battery Saver for Intelligent Access Keys
If you leave the ignition switched on and theengine is not running, the battery saver willturn the ignition off when it detects a certainamount of battery drain, or after 45 minuteshave elapsed.
KEYLESS ENTRY
SECURICODE™ Keyless Entry Keypad
The keypad is near the driver window. Itilluminates when touched.
Note: If you enter your entry code too faston the keypad, the unlock function may notwork. Enter your entry code again moreslowly.
You can use the keypad to do the following:
•Lock or unlock the doors.
•Program and erase user codes.
•Arm and disarm the anti-theft alarm.
•Recall memory seat and mirror positions.

POWER LIFTGATE
WARNING: It is extremely dangerousto ride in a cargo area, inside or outside ofa vehicle. In a crash, people riding in theseareas are more likely to be seriouslyinjured or killed. Do not allow people toride in any area of your vehicle that is notequipped with seats and seatbelts. Makesure everyone in your vehicle is in a seatand properly using a seatbelt. Failure tofollow this warning could result in seriouspersonal injury or death.
WARNING: Make sure to close andlatch the liftgate to prevent drawingexhaust fumes into your vehicle. This willalso prevent passengers and cargo fromfalling out. If you must drive with the liftgateopen, keep the vents or windows open sooutside air comes into your vehicle. Failureto follow this warning could result inserious personal injury.
WARNING: Keep keys out of reachof children. Do not allow children tooperate or play near an open or movingpower liftgate. You should supervise theoperation of the power liftgate at all times.
Note: Make sure that you close the liftgatebefore operating or moving your vehicle,especially in an enclosure, like a garage ora parking structure. This could damage theliftgate and its components.
Note: Do not hang anything, for example abike rack, from the glass or liftgate. Thiscould damage the liftgate and itscomponents.
The liftgate only operates with thetransmission in park (P).
Three warning tones sound as the liftgatebegins to power close. If there is a problemwith the open or close request, one of thefollowing may occur:
•One tone sounds if the ignition is on andthe transmission is not in park (P).
•Three tones sound if the battery voltageis below the minimum operating voltage.
•One tone sounds if the vehicle speed isat or above 3.1 mph (5 km/h)
If the liftgate starts to close after it has fullyopened, this indicates there may beexcessive weight on the liftgate or a possiblegas strut failure. A repetitive tone soundsand the liftgate closes under control. Removeany excessive weight from the liftgate. If theliftgate continues to close after opening,have the system checked by an authorizeddealer
