Instrument cluster NOTICE ■
To prevent damage to the engine and its components●
Do not let the indicator needle of the tachometer enter the red zone, which indicates
the maximum engine speed. ●
The engine may be overheating if the engine coolant temperature gauge is in the red
zone (H). In this case, immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place, and check the
engine after it has cooled completely. (  P. 555)■
Voltmeter
When the voltmeter indicates 19 V or higher or 9 V or lower while the engine is run-
ning, there may be a battery or charging system malfunction. Have the vehicle
inspected at your Lexus dealer. ■
Engine oil pressure gauge
When the value of the engine oil pressure gauge drops while the engine is running,
stop the vehicle in a safe place immediat ely and check the amount of engine oil.

When the oil pressure drops even though th e engine oil amount has not decreased, or
if the oil pressure does not increase when engine oil is added, contact your Lexus
dealer, as there may be a problem with the lubrication system.

WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury. ■
When the vehicle is parked ●
If the shift lever is moved before the low speed four-wheel drive indicator turns on/off,
the transfer mode may not be shifted completely. The transfer mode disengages both
the front and rear driveshafts from the po wertrain and allows the vehicle to move
regardless of the shift positi on. (At this time, the indi cator blinks and the buzzer
sounds.)
Therefore, the vehicle is free to roll even if the automatic transmission is in P.
You or someone else could be seriously injure d. You must complete the shifting of the
transfer mode. (  P. 309)●
Do not touch the exhaust pipes while the engine is running or immediately after turn-
ing the engine off.
Doing so may cause burns. ■
When taking a nap in the vehicle
Always turn the engine off. Otherwise, if you accidentally move the shift lever or
depress the accelerator pedal, this could cause an accident or fire due to engine over-
heating. Additionally, if the ve hicle is parked in a poorly ventilated area, exhaust gases
may collect and enter the vehicle, leading to death or a serious health hazard. ■
When braking ●
When the brakes are wet, drive more cautiously.
Braking distance increases when the brakes are wet, and this may cause one side of
the vehicle to brake differently than the other side. Also, the parking brake may not
securely hold the vehicle. ●
If the brake booster device does not operate, do not follow other vehicles closely and
avoid hills or sharp turns that require braking. In this case, braking is still possible, but
the brake pedal should be depressed more firmly than usual. Also, the braking dis-
tance will increase. Have your brakes fixed immediately. ●
Do not pump the brake pedal if the engine stalls.
Each push on the brake pedal uses up the reserve for the power-assisted brakes. ●
The brake system consists of 2 individual hy draulic systems: If one of the systems fails,
the other will still operate. In this case, the brake pedal should be depressed more
firmly than usual and the bra king distance will increase.
Have your brakes fixed immediately. ■
If the vehicle becomes stuck
Do not spin the wheels excessive ly when any of the tires is up in the air, or the vehicle is
stuck in sand, mud, etc. This may damage the driveline components or propel the vehi-
cle forward or backward, causing an accident.

Avoid jerky starts or sudden acceleration. ●
Avoid jerky steering and sharp turns, an d slow down before making a turn.●
Note that when making a turn, the trailer wheels will be closer than the vehicle
wheels to the inside of the turn. Compensate by making a wider than normal
turning radius. ●
Slow down before making a turn, in cr osswinds, on wet or slippery surfaces,
etc.
Increasing vehicle speed can destabilize the trailer. ●
Take care when passing other vehicles . Passing requires considerable dis-
tance. After passing a vehicle, do not fo rget the length of your trailer, and be
sure you have plenty of room before changing lanes. ●
To maintain engine braking efficien cy and charging system performance
when using engine braking, do not put the transmission in D.
If in the S mode, the transmission shift range position must be in 6 or lower.

Instability happens more fr equently when descending steep or long downhill
grades. Before descending, slow down and downshift. Do not make sudden
downshifts while descending st eep or long downhill grades.●
Avoid holding the brake pedal down too long or applying the brakes too fre-
quently. This could cause the brakes to overheat and result in reduced braking
efficiency. ●
Due to the added load of the trailer, yo ur vehicle’s engine may overheat on hot
days (at temperatures over 85°F [30°C]) when driving up a long or steep
grade. If the engine coolant temperat ure gauge indicates overheating, imme-
diately turn off the air conditioning (if in use), pull your vehicle off the road and
stop in a safe spot. (  P. 555)

When the steering lock cannot be released
■
Steering lock motor overheating prevention
To prevent the steering lock motor from over heating, the motor may be suspended if the
engine is turned on and off re peatedly in a short period of time. In this case, refrain from
running the engine. After about 10 seconds, the steering lock motor will resume func-
tioning. ■
When “Smart Access System Malfunction See Owner’s Manual” is displayed on the
multi-information display
The system may be malfunctioning. Have th e vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer,
immediately. ■
If the electronic key battery is depleted
 P. 505 ■
If the smart access system with push-button start has been deactivated in a customized
setting
 P. 549A message will be displayed on the multi-infor-
mation display.
Check that the shift lever is set in P. Press the
engine switch while turn ing the steering wheel
left and right.
WARNING ■
When starting the engine
Always start the engine while sitting in the driver’s seat. Do not depress the accelerator
pedal while starting the engine under any circumstances.
Doing so may cause an accident resu lting in death or serious injury.■
Caution while driving
If engine failure occurs while the vehicle is moving, do not lock or open the doors until
the vehicle reaches a safe and complete stop. Activation of the steering lock in this cir-
cumstance may lead to an accident, re sulting in death or serious injury.■
Stopping the engine in an emergency ●
If you want to stop the engine in an em ergency while driving th e vehicle, press and
hold the engine switch for more than 2 seco nds, or press it briefly 3 times or more in
succession. (  P. 513)
However, do not touch the engine switch wh ile driving except in an emergency. Turn-
ing the engine off while drivin g will not cause loss of steering or braking control, but
the power assist to these systems will be lost . This will make it more difficult to steer
and brake, so you should pull over and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so. ●
If the engine switch is operated while the vehicle is running, a warning message will be
shown on the multi-information display and a buzzer sounds. ●
When restarting the engine after it was turn ed off while driving, shift the shift lever to
N and press the engine switch.

Driving Sets the parking brake The parking brake indicator light will
come on. (  P. 225)
Pull and hold the parking brake switch if
an emergency occurs and it is necessary
to operate the parking brake while driv-
ing.
Releases the parking brake Operate the parking brake switch while
depressing the brake pedal. Make sure
that the parking brake indicator light
goes off. ■
Parking the vehicle

Parking brake operation ●
When the engine switch is not in IGNITION ON mode, the parking brake cannot be
released using the parking brake switch. ●
When the engine switch is not in IGNITION ON mode, automatic mode (automatic
brake setting and releasing) is not available. ■
If “Parking Brake Overheated Parking Brak e Unavailable” is displayed on the multi-
information display
If the parking brake is operated repeatedly over a short period of time, the system may
restrict operation to prevent overheating. If this happens, refrain from operating the
parking brake. Normal operation wi ll return after about 1 minute.■
Parking brake operation sound
When the parking brake operates, a motor so und (whirring sound) may be heard. This
does not indicate a malfunction. ■
Parking brake indicator light ●
Depending on the engine switch mode, the parking brake indicator light will come on
and stay on as described below:
IGNITION ON mode: Comes on unt il the parking brake is released.
Not in IGNITION ON mode: Stays on for approximat ely 15 seconds.●
When the engine switch is turned off with the parking brake set, the parking brake indi-
cator light will stay on for about 15 seconds. This does not in dicate a malfunction.■
Changing the mode
When changing the automatic mode on/off , the message will be shown on the multi-
information display and the buzzer sounds. ■
Parking brake engaged warning buzzer
A buzzer will sound if the vehicle is driv en with the parking brake engaged. “Release
Parking Brake” is displayed on the multi-information display.Manual mode U.S.A. Canada1

Driving Comfort mode
By controlling the suspension, riding comf ort is further enha nced. Suitable for
city driving. When not in comfort mode and the driving mode select switch is tu rned to the left, the
“COMFORT” indicator comes on in the multi-information display.
Eco drive mode
Helps the driver accelerate in an eco-fr iendly manner and improve fuel econ-
omy through moderate throttle charact eristics and by controlling the opera-
tion of the air conditioning system (heating/cooling). When in comfort mode, if the driving mode select switch is turned to the left, the
“ECO” indicator will come on in the multi-information display.
Sport mode
•SPORT S mode
Controls the transmission and engine to provide quick, powerful accelera-
tion. This mode is suitable for when agile driving response is desired, such
as when driving on roads with many curves. When not in SPORT S mode, if the driving mode select switch is turned to the
right, the “SPORT S” indicator will co me on in the multi-information display.
•SPORT S+ mode
Helps to ensure steering performanc e and driving stability by simultane-
ously controlling the steeri ng and suspension in addition to the transmis-
sion and engine. Suitable for sportier driving. When in SPORT S mode, if the driving mode select switch is turned to the right,
the “SPORT S+” indicator will come on in the multi-information display. Function Setting

Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode
Eco drive mode controls the heating/cooling operations and fan speed of the air condi-
tioning system to enhance fuel efficiency. To improve air conditioning performance,
adjust the fan speed or turn off eco mode of the air conditioning system. (  P. 405)■
Automatic deactivation of sport mode and customized mode
If the engine switch is turned off after dr iving in sport mode or customized mode, the
drive mode will be changed to normal mode. ■
Driving mode pop-up display
When the driving mode is changed, the sele cted driving mode will be temporarily dis-
played on the side display. (  P. 398)

Automatic system cancelation 
Crawl Control
In the following situations, the buzzer will sound intermittently an d Crawl Control will be
canceled automatically. In this event, the Crawl Control indicator will flash and then go
off, the Turn Assist indicator will go off (if th e Turn Assist function is in use), and a message
stating that Crawl Cont rol has been turned off will be di splayed on the multi-information
display for several seconds. ●
When the shift lever is moved to P or N. ●
When the four-wheel drive control switch is in H4. ●
When the driver’s door is opened. 
Turn Assist function
When the center differential is locked, the buzzer will sound inte rmittently and the Turn
Assist function will be canceled automatically. In this event, the Turn Assist indicator will
go off, and a message stating that the Turn Assi st function has been turned off will be dis-
played on the multi-informatio n display for several seconds.■
Function limitations 
Crawl Control ●
In the following situations, brake control can be used to drive downhill at a constant
speed. However, engine control is not available when drivin g uphill at a co nstant speed.
•When switched to second start mode.●
In the following situation, engine control an d brake control will stop temporarily. In this
event, the Crawl Control indicator will flash.
• When the vehicle speed exceeds approximately 15 mph (25 km/h). 
Turn Assist function
In the following situations, the Turn Assist func tion will stop temporarily. In this event, the
Turn Assist indicator will flash. ●
When the vehicle speed exceeds approximately 6 mph (10 km/h). ●
When the shift lever is moved to R. ■
When the Crawl Control system is operated continuously●
If Crawl Control is used continuously for a long time, the buzzer will sound, a malfunc-
tion notification will be displayed on the multi-information display, the Crawl Control
indicator will go off, and Crawl Control will be temporarily inoperable as a result of the
brake system overheating. In this event, stop the vehicle immediately in a safe place,
and allow the brake system to cool down sufficiently until the TRAC OFF indicator
goes off. (In the meantime, normal driving is possible.) ●
If Crawl Control is used continuously for a long time, the buzzer will sound, the system
will be temporarily canceled, and a malfunct ion notification will be displayed on the
multi-information display as a result of th e automatic transmission system overheating.
Stop the vehicle in a safe place until the display goes off. ■
