LX570_OM_OM60R07U_(U) 6-2. Maintenance
Vehicle exterior Items Check points
Doors • Do the doors operate smoothly?
Engine hood • Does the engine hood lock system work properly?
Fluid leaks • There should not be any si gns of fluid leakage after
the vehicle has been parked.
Tires • Is the tire inflation pressure correct?
• The tires should not be damaged or excessively
worn.
• Have the tires been rotated according to the mainte-
nance schedule?
• The wheel nuts should not be loose.
Windshield wipers/rear
window wiper •The wiper blades should no t show any signs of crack-
ing, splitting, wear, contamination or deformation.
• The wiper blades should clear the windshield/rear
window without streaking or skipping.
WARNING ■
If the engine is running
Turn off the engine and ensure that there is adequate ventilation before performing
maintenance checks.

Tire types ●
Summer tires
Summer tires are high-speed performance ti res best suited to highway driving under
dry conditions. Since summer tires do not have the same traction performance as
snow tires, summer tires are inadequate for driving on snow-covered or icy roads. For
driving on snow-covered roads or icy road s, the use of snow tires is recommended.
When installing snow tires, be sure to replace all four tires.●
All season tires
All season tires are designed to provide better traction in snow and to be adequate for
driving in most winter conditions, as well as for use year round. All season tires, how-
ever, do not have adequate traction perfor mance compared with snow tires in heavy
or loose snow. Also, all season tires fall short in acceleration and handling perfor-
mance compared with summer tires in highway driving.●
Snow tires
For driving on snow-covered roads or icy roads, we recommend using snow tires. If
you need snow tires, select ti res of the same size, construction and load capacity as the
originally installed tires. Since your vehicle has radial tires as or iginal equipment, make
sure your snow tires also have radial cons truction. Do not install studded tires without
first checking local regulations for possible re striction. Snow tires should be installed
on all wheels. ( P. 388)■
Initializing the tire pressure warning system
Initialize the tire pressure warn ing system with the tire inflat ion pressure adjusted to the
specified level. ■
If the tread on snow tires wears down below 0.16 in. (4 mm)
The effectiveness of the tire s as snow tires is lost.■
If you press the tire pressure warning reset switch accidentally
If initialization is performed, adjust the tire inflation pressure to the specified level and ini-
tialize the tire pressure warning system again.■
Situations in which the tire pressure warning system may not operate properly ●
In the following cases, the tire pressure warning system may not operate properly.
• If non-genuine Lexus wheels are used.
• A tire has been replaced with a tire that is not an OE (Original Equipment) tire.
• A tire has been replaced with a tire that is not of the specified size.
• Tire chains etc. are equipped.
• An auxiliary-supported run-flat tire is equipped.
• If a window tint that affects th e radio wave signals is installed.
• If there is a lot of snow or ice on the vehi cle, particularly around the wheels or wheel
housings.
• If the tire inflation pressure is extr emely higher than the specified level.
• If the spare tire is in a location subj ect to poor radio wave signal reception.
• If a large metallic object which can interfer e with signal reception is put near the
spare tire.
• If tires not equipped with the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters are used.
• If the ID code on the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters is not registered
in the tire pressure warning computer.

If the vehicle is trapped in rising water ●
Remove the seat belt first. ●
If the door can be opened, open the door and exit the vehicle.●
If the door can not be opened, open the window using the power window
switch and exit the vehicle through the window. ●
If the window can not be opened us ing the power window switch, remain
calm, wait until the water level inside the vehicle rises to the point that the
water pressure inside of the vehicle equals the water pressure outside of the
vehicle, and then open the door and exit the vehicle. In the event the vehicle is submerged in water, remain calm and perform the
following.
WARNING ■
Using an emergency hammer
* for emergency escape
The rear side windows and rear window of this vehicle can be shattered by an emer-
gency hammer
* used for emergency escape, however, since the windshield and front
side windows are laminated glass they ca n not be shattered by an emergency ham-
mer
* .
* : Contact your Lexus dealer or aftermarke t accessory manufacturer for further infor-
mation about an emergency hammer. ■
Escaping the vehicle from the window
There are cases where escaping the vehicl e from the window is not possible due to
seating position, passenger body type, etc.
When using an emergency hammer, consider your seat location and the size of the
window opening to ensure that the opening is accessible and large enough to escape.

When trouble arises 7-2. Steps to take in an emergency
If the electronic key does not operate properly Use the mechanical key ( P. 117) in
order to perform the following opera-
tions (driver’s door only):
Locks all the doors
Closes the windows and moon roof
*(turn and hold)
Unlocks the doors Turning the key rearward unlocks the
driver’s door. Turning the key once again
unlocks the other doors.
Opens the windows and moon roof
* (turn and hold)
* : These settings must be cust omized at your Lexus dealer. If communication between the electronic key and vehicle is interrupted
( P. 140) or the electronic key ca nnot be used because the battery is
depleted, the smart access system with push-button start and wireless
remote control cannot be used. In such cases, the doors can be opened and
the engine can be started by following the procedure below.
