andmore.Thecontrolunitmonitorsthesystem
onthefrontpassengerseatwhentheignitionis
switchedonandturnstheairbagindicatorlight
onwhenamalfunctionintheoneofthesystem
componentsisdetected>page200.Becausethe
frontpassengerseatcontainsimportantpartsof
theAdvancedAirbagSystem,youmusttakecare
to
preventitfrombeingdamaged.Damageto
theseatmaypreventtheAdvancedAirbagSys-
temforthefrontpassengerseatfromdoingits
job inacrash.
ThefrontAdvancedAirbagSystemconsists
ofthefollowing:

frontthree-pointsafetybeltstohelpreducethe
riskofinjuryinawiderangeofaccidentandcrash
situations.Besuretoreadtheimportantinfor-

aboutsafetyandheedtheWARNINGSin
thischapter.
DeploymentoftheAdvancedAirbagSystemand
theactivationofthesafetybeltpretensionersde-
pendonthedecelerationmeasuredbythecrash
sensorsandregisteredbytheelectroniccontrol
unit.Crashseveritydependsonspeedanddecel-
erationaswellasthemassandstiffnessofthe
vehicleorobject involvedinthecrash.
Onthepassengerside,regardlessof safetybelt
use,
thefrontpassengerfrontalairbagwillbe
turnedoffiftheelectricalcapacitancemeasured
bythecapacitivepassengerdetectionsystemon
thefrontpassengerseatislessthantheamount
