on.Everytimeyouturnontheignition,theair-
bagsystemindicatorlightkawillcomeon fora
fewseconds(functioncheck).
Thesystemmustbeinspectedwhenthe

Ifanairbagsystemmalfunctionisdetected,the

whenevertheignitionison.

Manytypesandmodelsofchildrestraintshave
beenavailableovertheyears,newmodelsarein-
troducedregularlyincorporatingnewandim-
proveddesignsandoldermodelsaretaken outof
production.Childrestraintsarenotstandardized.
Childrestraintsofthesametypetypicallyhave
differentweightsandsizesanddifferent“foot-
prints”,thesizeandshapeofthebottomofthe
childrestraintthatsitsontheseat,whenthey
areinstalledonavehicleseat.Thesedifferences
makeitvirtuallyimpossibletocertifycompliance
withtherequirementsforadvancedairbagswith
eachandeverychildrestraintthathaseverbeen
soldinthepastorwillbesoldoverthecourseof
theusefullifeofyourvehicle.
Forthisreason,the UnitedStatesNationalHigh-
wayTrafficSafetyAdministrationhaspublisheda
listofspecifictype,makesandmodelsofchild
restraintsthatmustbeusedtocertifycompli-
anceoftheAdvancedAirbagSysteminyourvehi-
clewiththesuppressionrequirementsofFederal

bly,andsafely.Performingworkonthevehicle
incorrectlycan impair the operationandreliabili-
tyofyourvehicleandmayvoidoneormoreof
yourvehicle'swarranties.
TechnicalModifications
Interferencewithelectroniccomponents,their
software,thewiring,anddatatransfermaycause
malfunctions.Becauseofthewayelectroniccom-
ponentsareinterconnected,suchmalfunctions
canalsoimpairsystemsthatarenotdirectlyin-
volved.Thismeansthatyouriskbothasubstan-
tialreductionintheoperationalsafety ofyourve-
hicleandincreasedwearofvehiclecomponents.
