Driving through standing water
Driving the vehicle through a deep pool of stand- ing water on a water-covered roadway is calledfording. This must be done with great caution.
To prevent damage to the vehicle when driving through water (e.g. on flooded roads): • Do not drive in water higher than the floor of the vehicle. If possible, check the depth ofthe water at its deepest point before drivingthrough it. Be particularly careful when driv-ing through flowing water.
• Always select the
Off Road drive mode
before driving in water to ensure the gasoline engine is running.
• Do not drive faster than walking speed.
• Do not stop the vehicle in the water. Drivecarefully forward or back the vehicle out ofthe water.
• Remember that waves created by passingvehicles could cause the water level to riseabove the vehicle's floor level.
• Avoid driving through salt water to help avoidthe risk of corrosion.
CAUTION
Parts of the vehicle (e.g. engine, transmission, driveline, electrical components, etc.) can bedamaged if the vehicle is driven through waterhigher than its floor level. Damage to anycomponents caused by flooding, vapor lock orinsufficient oil is not covered under warranty. If the engine stalls while the vehicle is in water, do not attempt to restart it. Have thevehicle towed on the bed of a tow truck to aworkshop - an authorized Volvo workshop isrecommended.
When you have passed the water, press lightly on the brake pedal and check that the brakes arefunctioning properly. Water, mud, slush, etc. canmake the brake linings slippery, resulting indelayed braking effect. If the vehicle is equipped with a trailer coupling contact, clean the contact after driving in water ormud.

Opening/closing the fuel filler door A button on the instrument panel is used to unlock the fuel filler door.
An arrow next to the fuel pump symbol in the instrument panelindicates the side of the vehicleon which the fuel filler door islocated.

464Refueling is done as follows.
1. Turn off the engine and open the fuel filler
door.
NOTE
Refueling must be done within approximately 10 minutes of opening the fuel filler door.After this time, the valve opened by pushingthe button will close and it will no longer bepossible to refuel without the pump's nozzleswitching off. If the valve is closed before refueling is com- plete - press the button again and wait until the driver display shows the message
Fuel
tank Ready for refueling.
2. Select a fuel approved for use in the vehicle. For more information on approved fuels, see the section on "Gasoline".
3. Insert the pump's nozzle into the fuel filler pipe's opening. There are two flaps justinside the fuel filler pipe and the pump's noz-zle must push both of these flaps openbefore fuel can be added. 4. Avoid overfilling the tank. Do not press the
handle on the filler nozzle again after it hasinitially stopped pumping.
> The fuel tank is now filled.
NOTE
An over-full tank may overflow in hot weather.
CAUTION
Avoid spilling gasoline during refueling. In addition to causing damage to the environ-ment, gasolines containing alcohol can causedamage to painted surfaces, which may notbe covered under the New Vehicle LimitedWarranty.
Refueling from a fuel containerWhen filling from a fuel container, use the funnel provided in a foam block under the floor hatch inthe cargo compartment.
1. Open the fuel filler door.
2. Insert the funnel into the fuel filler pipe'sopening. There are two flaps just inside the fuel filler pipe and the tube section of thefunnel must push both of these flaps openbefore fuel can be added.

Fuel Volvo recommends the use of detergent gaso- line to control engine deposits.
Deposit control gasoline (gasoline with detergent additives)
Detergent gasoline is effective in keeping injec- tors and intake valves clean. Consistent use ofdeposit control gasolines will help ensure gooddriveability and fuel economy. If you are not surewhether the gasoline contains deposit controladditives, check with the service station operator.
NOTE
Volvo recommends not using external fuel injector cleaning systems, e.g. do not adddetergent additives to gasoline before or afterrefueling.
Unleaded fuelAll Volvo vehicles have a three-way catalytic con- verter and must only use unleaded gasoline. USand Canadian regulations require that pumpsdelivering unleaded gasoline are labeled"UNLEADED". Only the nozzles of these pumpswill fit in your vehicle's fuel filler inlet. It is unlaw-ful to dispense leaded fuel into a vehicle labeled"unleaded gasoline only". Leaded gasoline dam-ages the three-way catalytic converter and theheated oxygen sensor system. Repeated use ofleaded gasoline will lessen the effectiveness of

Follow these instructions to program HomeLink ®
, reset all programming, or program
individual buttons.
NOTE
In some vehicles, the ignition must be on or in the "accessory position" before HomeLink ®
can be programmed or used. It can be a good idea to put new batteries in the remote con- trol being replaced by HomeLink ®
for faster
programming and better radio signal trans-mission. The HomeLink ®
buttons should be
reset before programming.
WARNING
While HomeLink ®
is being programmed, the
garage door or gate being programmed may be activated. Make sure that no one is nearthe door or gate during programming. Whenprogramming a garage door opener, it isadvised to park outside of the garage. 1.
Point the remote control at the HomeLink ®
button to be programmed and hold it about 2-8 cm (1-3 inches) from the button. Do not obstruct the HomeLink ®
indicator light.
Note: Some remote controls are more effec-
tive at programming HomeLink ®
from a dis-
tance of about 15-20 cm (6-12 inches). Try moving the remote control closer or furtheraway if you are experiencing any difficultiesprogramming.
2. Press and hold both the remote control but- ton and the HomeLink ®
button to be pro-
grammed.
3. Do not release the buttons until the indicator light has stopped flashing slowly (about oncea second) and either flashes quickly (about10 times a second) or glows steadily. >Steady glow: Indication that program-
ming is complete. Press the programmed button twice to activate. Flashing quickly: The device being pro-
grammed with HomeLink ®
may have a
security function that requires an extra step. Try pressing the programmed buttontwice to see whether the programmingworks. Otherwise, continue with the fol-lowing steps.
4. Locate the "training" button 13
on the
receiver for the e.g. garage door opener. It is usually located near the antenna bracket onthe receiver.
5. Press and release the "training" button once. Programming must be completed within 30seconds after pressing the button.
6. Press and release the HomeLink ®
button to
be programmed. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence a second time. For somereceivers, the sequence may need to berepeated a third time.
> Programming is now completed and the garage door, gate, etc. should now be activated when the programmed button ispressed.

Programming individual buttons
To program an individual HomeLink
®
button:
1. Press and hold the desired button for about 20 seconds.
2. When the indicator light on HomeLink ®
starts flashing slowly, it is possible to pro-gram as usual. Note: If the button you are reprogramming
does not program with a new device, it will return to the previously saved programming.
Resetting the HomeLink ®
buttons
It is only possible to reset all HomeLink ®
buttons
at once. It is not possible to reset individual but-tons. Individual buttons can only be reprogram-med.
–Press and hold the outer buttons (1 and 3) on HomeLink ®
for about 10 seconds.
> When the indicator light goes from a steady glow to flashing, the buttons have been reset and are ready for reprogram-ming.

Using HomeLink
Once HomeLink ®
is programmed, it can be
used instead of the separate remote controls.
Press and hold the programming button. The garage door, gate, alarm system, etc. will be acti-vated (this may take several seconds). If the but-ton is held down for more than 20 seconds,reprogramming will begin. The indicator light willglow steadily or flash when the button has beenpressed. The original remote controls may be used concurrently with HomeLink ®
if desired.
NOTE
If the ignition is off, HomeLink ®
works for
30 minutes after the driver's door has been opened.
WARNING
• If you use HomeLink ®
to open a garage
door or gate, be sure no one is near the gate or door while it is in motion.
• Do not use HomeLink ®
with any garage
door opener that lacks safety stop andreverse features as required by US fed-eral safety standards (this includes anygarage door opener model manufacturedbefore April 1, 1982). Activating and deactivating thecompass
An integrated compass in the upper right corner of the rearview mirror shows the direction thevehicle is traveling.
Activating and deactivating the compass
The compass is automatically activated when the vehicle is started. To deactivate/activate the compass manually:
–Use a paper clip or similar object to press the button on the bottom of the mirror.

Calibrating the compass
The globe is divided into 15 magnetic zones. The compass should be calibrated if the vehicleis driven from one zone to another.
To calibrate the compass:
1. Stop the vehicle in a large, open area away from steel constructions and high-voltage power lines.
2. Start the engine and switch off all electrical equipment (climate system, wipers, etc.) andmake sure all doors are closed.
NOTE
Calibration may fail or not even be initiated if electrical equipment is not turned off.
3. Hold the button on the bottom of the rear-view mirror pressed for about 3 seconds (using e.g. a paper clip). The number of thecurrent magnetic zone is shown.

4. Press the button on the underside of themirror repeatedly until the desired magnetic zone (
1–15) appears (see the map of mag-
netic zones).
5. Wait until the display again shows
C, or
press and hold the button on the underside of the rearview mirror for approx. 6 seconds until
C is displayed.
6. Drive slowly in a circle at a speed of no more than 10 km/h (6 mph) until a compass direc- tion is shown in the display. This indicatesthat calibration is complete. Drive in a circletwo more times to fine-tune the calibration.
7. Vehicles with heated windshields *: If
C is
shown in the display when the windshield heating function is activated, perform step 6above with the heating function on.
