IntelliSafe - driver support
IntelliSafe is Volvo Cars' philosophy regarding vehicle safety. IntelliSafe consists of a number ofsystems, both standard and optional, that aredesigned to help make driving safer, preventaccidents and protect passengers and otherroad users.
SupportIntelliSafe includes driver support functions such as Adaptive cruise control * which helps the driver
to maintain an even speed combined with a pre- selected time interval to the vehicle ahead. Pilot Assist 4
helps the driver keep the vehicle in
the current traffic lane by providing steering assistance and maintaining an even speed and aset time interval to the vehicle ahead. Park Assist Pilot * helps the driver pull into and
out of parking spaces. Other examples of systems that can help the driver are the Active main beam, Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) * and Blind Spot Information (BLIS) *
systems.
PreventionCity Safety is a function intended to help prevent accidents. The function can help prevent or miti-gate a collision with pedestrians, cyclists, largeanimals or other vehicles. Light, sound and pulsa-tions in the brake pedal are provided to alert of a

Occupant weight sensor
The Occupant Weight Sensor (OWS) is designed to meet the regulatory requirements ofFederal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS)208 and is designed to disable (will not inflate)the passenger's side front airbag under certainconditions.

Disabling the passenger's side front airbag
Volvo recommends that ALL occupants (adults and children) shorter than 140 cm (4 feet7 inches) be seated in the back seat of any vehi-cle with a front passenger side airbag and beproperly restrained for their size and weight. The OWS works with sensors that are part of the front passenger's seat and seat belt. The sensors are designed to detect the presence of a properly seated occupant and determine if the passeng- er's side front airbag should be enabled (mayinflate) or disabled (will not inflate). The OWS will disable (will not inflate) the pas- senger's side front airbag when:
• the front passenger's seat is unoccupied, orhas small/medium objects in the front seat,
• the system determines that an infant is pres-ent in a rear-facing infant seat that is instal-led according to the manufacturer's instruc-tions,
• the system determines that a small child ispresent in a forward-facing child restraintthat is installed according to the manufactur-er's instructions,
• the system determines that a small child ispresent in a booster seat,
• a front passenger takes his/her weight off ofthe seat for a period of time,
• a child or a small person occupies the frontpassenger's seat.
The OWS uses a PASSENGER AIRBAG OFFindicator lamp which will illuminate and stay on toremind you that the passenger's side front airbagis disabled. The PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indi-cator lamp is located in the overhead console,near the base of the rearview mirror.

NOTE
When the ignition is switched on, the OWS indicator light will illuminate for several sec-onds while the system performs a self-diag-nostic test.
However, if a fault is detected in the system:
• The OWS indicator light will stay on
• The SRS warning light will come on and stay on and a text message will be displayed.
WARNING
If a fault in the system is detected and indi- cated as described, be aware that the pas-senger's side front airbag will not deploy inthe event of a collision. In this case, the SRSsystem and Occupant Weight Sensor shouldbe inspected by a trained and qualified Volvoservice technician as soon as possible.
WARNING
•Never try to open, remove or repair any components in the OWS system. Thiscould cause the system to malfunction.Maintenance or repairs should only becarried out by an a trained and qualifiedVolvo service technician.
• The front passenger's seat should not bemodified in any way. This could reducepressure on the seat cushion, whichmight interfere with the OWS system'sfunction.

Volvo recommends that children always be properly restrained in appropriate child restraints in the rear seats. Do not assumethat the passenger's side front airbag is disabled unless thePASSENGER AIRBAG OFF indicator lamp is lit. Make sure thechild restraint is properly installed. If there is any doubt as to thestatus of the passenger's side front airbag, move the childrestraint to the rear seat.
The OWS is designed to enable (may inflate) the passenger's side front airbag in the event of acollision anytime the system senses that a per-son of adult size is sitting properly in the frontpassenger's seat. The PASSENGER AIRBAGOFF indicator lamp will be off and remain off. If a person of adult size is sitting in the front pas- senger's seat, but the PASSENGER AIRBAGOFF indicator lamp is on, it is possible that the

Alarm indicator
A red indicator light on the dashboard shows the status of the alarm:• Indicator off - the alarm is disarmed.
• Indicator flashes once every two seconds -the alarm is armed.
• The indicator flashes quickly after the alarmhas been disabled for up to 30 seconds or until the ignition is put in
I mode by turning
the start knob clockwise and then releasing - the alarm has been triggered.

handle on the filler nozzle again after it has initially stopped pumping.

CAUTION
Avoid spilling gasoline during refueling. In addition to causing damage to the environ-ment, gasolines containing alcohol can causedamage to painted surfaces, which may notbe covered under the New Vehicle LimitedWarranty.
Refueling from a fuel containerWhen filling from a fuel container, use the funnel provided in a foam block under the floor hatch inthe cargo compartment.
1. Open the fuel filler door.
2. Insert the funnel into the fuel filler pipe's opening. There are two flaps just inside the fuel filler pipe and the tube section of thefunnel must push both of these flaps openbefore fuel can be added.

Fuel Volvo recommends the use of detergent gaso- line to control engine deposits.
Deposit control gasoline (gasoline with detergent additives)
Detergent gasoline is effective in keeping injec- tors and intake valves clean. Consistent use ofdeposit control gasolines will help ensure gooddriveability and fuel economy. If you are not surewhether the gasoline contains deposit controladditives, check with the service station operator.
NOTE
Volvo recommends not using external fuel injector cleaning systems, e.g. do not adddetergent additives to gasoline before or afterrefueling.
Unleaded fuelAll Volvo vehicles have a three-way catalytic con- verter and must only use unleaded gasoline. USand Canadian regulations require that pumpsdelivering unleaded gasoline are labeled"UNLEADED". Only the nozzles of these pumpswill fit in your vehicle's fuel filler inlet. It is unlaw-ful to dispense leaded fuel into a vehicle labeled"unleaded gasoline only". Leaded gasoline dam-ages the three-way catalytic converter and theheated oxygen sensor system. Repeated use ofleaded gasoline will lessen the effectiveness of the emission control system and could result inloss of emission warranty coverage. State andlocal vehicle inspection programs will makedetection of misfueling easier, possibly resultingin emission test failure for misfueled vehicles.
NOTE
Some U.S. and Canadian gasolines contain an octane enhancing additive called methyl-cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl(MMT). If such fuels are used, your EmissionControl System performance may be affected,and the Check Engine Light (malfunctionindicator light) located on your instrumentpanel may light. If this occurs, please returnyour vehicle to a trained and qualified Volvoservice technician for service.
Gasoline containing alcohol and ethers, "Oxygenated fuels"
Some fuel suppliers sell gasoline containing "oxygenates" which are usually alcohols orethers. In some areas, state or local laws requirethat the service pump be marked indicating useof alcohols or ethers. However, there are areas inwhich the pumps are unmarked. If you are notsure whether there is alcohol or ethers in thegasoline you buy, check with the service stationoperator. To meet seasonal air quality standards,some areas require the use of "oxygenated" fuel.

Tire direction of rotation
Tires with tread designed to roll in only one direction are marked with an arrow on the side-wall.
The arrow shows the tire's direction of rotation.
• The tire should maintain the same direction of rotation throughout its service life.
• Tires should only be moved between thefront and back, never from right to left or viceversa.
• Incorrectly mounted tires impair the vehicle'sbraking properties and ability to force asiderain, snow and slush.
• The tires with the most tread should alwaysbe mounted on the rear wheels to helpreduce the risk of skidding.

Use tires of the same type, dimensions and make (manufacturer) on each axle.

This sequence will continue upon subse-quent vehicle start-ups as long as the malfunc-tion exists. When the malfunction indicator is illu-minated, the system may not be able to detect orsignal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacementor alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle thatprevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on yourvehicle to ensure that the replacement or alter-nate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to con-tinue to function properly.

Action when warned of low tirepressure
When the tire pressure monitoring system, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), detectslow pressure in one or more of the vehicle'stires, the driver will be alerted that action is nee-ded.
If the system's indicator symbol illumi- nates and the message Tire pressure
low is displayed, check the tire pres-
sure and inflate if necessary.
1. Switch off the ignition.
2. Check the inflation pressure on all four tires using a tire pressure gauge.
3. Inflate the tire to the correct pressure (see the tire pressure decal on the driver's side door pillar).
4. Through calibration of the system via the center display after the tire pressure hasbeen adjusted. Please be aware that the indicator symbol will not go out until the low tire pressure hasbeen corrected and the system has beenrecalibrated.
NOTE
To help prevent incorrect inflation pressure, pressure should be checked when the tiresare cold. The tires are considered to be coldwhen they have reached the same tempera-ture as the ambient temperature (about 3hours after the vehicle was last driven). Afterdriving for a few kilometers, the tires will warmup and the pressure will increase.
NOTE
• After inflating a tire, always replace the valve cap to help prevent valve damagecaused by gravel, dirt, etc.
• Use plastic valve caps only. Metal capscould corrode and become difficult toremove.
