Dome light (rear)
1- The dome light illuminates regardless ofany door or the liftgate being opened orclosed. 2-  When any of the doors or the liftgate isopened, the dome light illuminates; when any of them are closed, the dome light goes off after approximately 30 sec-onds. However, the light goes off imme- diately if:  The door and the liftgate are closed while the ignition switch is in the “ON” position or the operation mode is in ON. The driver’s door is closed while the lock knob is in the lock position, after all the other doors are closed.
Rear
 The door and the liftgate are closed and the power door lock function isused to lock the doors.  The keyless entry system key is used to lock the doors. In vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.-key, the doors and the lift- gate are locked using the F.A.S.T.-key.NOTE
 When the engine is started using the key while the doors and liftgate are closed, if you remove the key, the dome light will illumi-nate for approximately 30 seconds then go off.  When the engine is started using the F.A.S.T.-key while the doors and liftgate are closed, if the operation mode is put in OFF,the dome light will illuminate for approxi- mately 30 seconds and then go off.  When the dome light switch is in the “ON” position, the light will not go off, even when all the doors and the liftgate are closed.  The time until the light goes off can be adjusted. CAUTION Never leave lighters, carbonated drink cans, or spectacles in the cabin when parking the vehicle in hot sunshine. The cabin will become extremely hot, so lighters and otherflammable items may catch fire and unopened drink cans (especially carbonated beverages, including beer) may rupture. Theheat may also deform or crack plastic specta- cle lenses and other spectacle parts that are made of plastic. Keep the lids of storage spaces closed while driving the vehicle. A lid or the contents of astorage space could otherwise cause injuries during a sudden stop.NOTE
 Do not leave valuables in any storage space when leaving the vehicle.

When parking on a hill, set the parking brake, and turn the front wheels toward the curb on adownhill, or away from the curb on an uphill. If necessary, apply chocks to the wheels. Be sure that the parking brake is firmly setwhen parked and that the selector lever is inthe “P” (PARK) position. When parking on a hill, it is important to set the parking brake before moving the selectorlever to the “P” (PARK) position. This pre- vents loading the parking brake against the transaxle. When this happens, it is difficult tomove the selector lever out of the “P” (PARK) position. Never leave the engi
ne running while you
take a short nap or rest. Also, never leave theengine running in a closed or poorly venti- lated place.
Your front bumper can be damaged if you scrape it over curbs or parking stop blocks. Be careful when traveling up or down steep slopes where your bumper can scrape theroad. Always carry the key and lock all doors and the liftgate when leaving the vehicle unat- tended. Always try to park your vehicle in a well litarea.
More effort could be required to turn the steering wheel. Refer to “Electric power steering system (EPS)” on page 5-80.

If your vehicle breaks down on the road, move to the shoulder and turn on the hazardwarning flashers. If there is no shoulder, or the shoulder is not safe, drive in the right lane slowly with the hazard
lights flashing, until
you come to a safe stopping place. Keep the flashers flashing. If the engine stops, there will be no power assist to the steering and brakes, making these difficult to use.  The brake booster will not work, so the brakes will not grip well. The brake pedalwill be harder to press than usual.  Since there is no power steering assist, the steering wheel will be hard to turn.

If the operation mode cannot be changed to OFF, perform the following procedure. 1. Move the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position, and then change theoperation mode to OFF. 2. One of the other causes could be low bat- tery voltage. If this occurs, the keylessentry system, keyless operation function, and steering lock will also not operate. If the engine cannot be started because thebattery is weak or dead, you can start it with the battery from another vehicle using jumper cables.
1. Take off any metal jewelry such as watch bands or bracelets that might create anaccidental electrical contact. 2. Position the vehicles close enough together so that the jumper cables canreach, but be sure the vehicles aren’t touching each other. 3. Set the parking brake firmly on your vehi- cle and move the selector lever into the “P” (PARK) position.

If your vehicle becomes stuck in snow, sand,or mud, it can often be moved by a rocking motion. Rock your vehicle back and forth tofree it. Do not rev the engine or spin the wheels. Constant efforts to free a stuck vehicle cancause overheating and transaxle failure. Let the engine idle for a few minutes to cool the transaxle before trying again.If your vehicle is still stuck after several rock- ing attempts, call for a commercial tow truck service.
Towing the vehicle by a tow truck
CAUTION This vehicle must not be towed by a tow truck using sling lift type equipment (Type A) as illustrated. Using a sling lift will dam-age the bumper and front end.Do not tow all-wheel drive vehicles with this style.
