LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL (IF
EQUIPPED)
The Electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD)system directs torque, enabling the vehicleto drive over terrain and road conditions thata conventional axle cannot. The system isactive at all times and requires no input fromthe driver.
Note:If your vehicle is not at optimaloperating conditions or a system fault ispresent, a warning may be displayed in theinstrument cluster. Depending on thewarning, your vehicle may need to beserviced. For more information regarding thesystem information messages, SeeInformation Messages (page 124).
Locking Function (If Equipped)
The lock button engages ‘lockermode’.
With the locker engaged, the systemelectronically locks the differential causingboth half shafts to turn at the same rate. Thisincreases traction during off road events.
The locker mode may automaticallydisengage based on certain conditions suchas vehicle speed. When engaged, a telltalein the instrument cluster will illuminate amberand the switch button will be illuminated.When the speed is exceeded the telltale willturn gray, the locker will be disengaged andbe in standby mode until the speedconditions are met. If the eLSD system isfaulted and the locker cannot engage, awarning message will be displayed in theinstrument cluster and the switch button willflash.
Spare Tire
If your vehicle is equipped with an ElectronicLimited Slip Differential, a spare tire of adifferent size than the tire provided, shouldnot be used. If a spare tire is installed, amessage may appear, indicating the systemhas disabled automatically or reducedfunction to prevent system overheat anddamage. It is recommended to reinstall therepaired or replaced road tire as soon aspossible. When the road tire is replaced, thesystem will resume normal operation on thenext key cycle.
Trailer Towing
The Electronic Limited Slip Differentialenhances vehicle stability during trailer towoperation. During high demand traileringevents (such as steep grades, high speedsor with a spare tire), the system may providea warning in the instrument cluster andreduce function or enter a temporarilydisabled state. To resume normal function,stop the vehicle in a safe location and allowthe unit to adequately cool. Once the systemhas reached normal operating temperatures,system function will be restored and theElectronic Limited Slip Differential Restoredmessage will be displayed.

To fully assist you should you have a vehicleconcern, Lincoln Motor Company offers acomplimentary roadside assistance program. This program is separate from the NewVehicle Limited Warranty.
The service is available:
•Throughout the life of the vehicle fororiginal owners.
•For six years or 70,000 mi (110,000 km)(whichever comes first) for subsequentowners.
Roadside Assistance covers:
•A flat tire change with a good spare(except vehicles supplied with a tireinflation kit).
•Battery jump start.
•Lock-out assistance (key replacementcost is the client's responsibility).
•Fuel delivery — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law shall deliver up to2 gal (8 L) of gasoline or 5 gal (20 L) ofdiesel fuel to a disabled vehicle.Roadside Assistance limits fuel deliveryservice to two no-charge occurrenceswithin a 12-month period.
•Winch out — available within 100 ft (30 m)of a paved or county maintained road,no recoveries.
•Towing — independent servicecontractors, if not prohibited by state,local or municipal law shall tow Lincolneligible vehicles to the client's selling orpreferred dealer within 100 mi (160 km)of the disablement location or to thenearest Lincoln dealer. If a client requestsa tow to a selling or preferred dealer thatis more than 100 mi (160 km) from thedisablement location, the client isresponsible for any mileage costs inexcess of 100 mi (160 km).
•Roadside Assistance includes up to $200for a towed trailer if the disabled eligiblevehicle requires service at the nearestauthorized dealer. If the towing vehicleis operational but the trailer is not, thenthe trailer does not qualify for anyroadside services.

Roadside Emergencies

A. T: Indicates a type of tire, designatedby the Tire and Rim Association, that isintended for temporary service on cars,sport utility vehicles, minivans and lighttrucks.
B. 145: Indicates the nominal width ofthe tire in millimeters from sidewall edgeto sidewall edge. In general, the largerthe number, the wider the tire.
C. 80: Indicates the aspect ratio whichgives the tire's ratio of height to width.Numbers of 70 or lower indicate a shortsidewall.
D. D: Indicates a diagonal type tire.
R: Indicates a radial type tire.
E. 16: Indicates the wheel or rimdiameter in inches. If you change your
wheel size, you will have to purchasenew tires to match the new wheeldiameter.
Location of the Tire Label
You will find a Tire Label containing tireinflation pressure by tire size and otherimportant information located on theB-Pillar or the edge of the driver's door.See Load Carrying (page 288).
Inflating Your Tires
Safe operation of your vehicle requiresthat your tires are properly inflated.Remember that a tire can lose up to halfof its air pressure without appearing flat.
Every day before you drive, check yourtires. If one looks lower than the others,use a tire gauge to check pressure of alltires and adjust if required.
At least once a month and before long
trips, inspect each tire and check the tirepressure with a tire gauge (includingspare, if equipped). Inflate all tires to theinflation pressure recommended by us.
You are strongly urged to buy a reliabletire pressure gauge, as automaticservice station gauges may beinaccurate. We recommend the use ofa digital or dial-type tire pressure gaugerather than a stick-type tire pressuregauge.
Use the recommended cold inflationpressure for optimum tire performanceand wear. Under-inflation orover-inflation may cause uneventreadwear patterns.
WARNING: Under-inflation is themost common cause of tire failuresand may result in severe tire cracking,tread separation or blowout, withunexpected loss of vehicle control andincreased risk of injury. Under-inflationincreases sidewall flexing and rollingresistance, resulting in heat buildup

When Inflating Your Tires
WARNING: Do not use the tirepressure displayed in the informationdisplay as a tire pressure gauge. Failure tofollow this instruction could result inpersonal injury or death.
When putting air into your tires (such as at agas station or in your garage), the tirepressure monitoring system may not respondimmediately to the air added to your tires.
It may take up to two minutes of driving over20 mph (32 km/h) for the light to turn off afteryou have filled your tires to therecommended inflation pressure.
How Temperature Affects Your TirePressure
The tire pressure monitoring system monitorstire pressure in each pneumatic tire. Whiledriving in a normal manner, a typicalpassenger tire inflation pressure mayincrease about 2–4 psi (14–28 kPa) from acold start situation. If the vehicle is stationaryovernight with the outside temperature
significantly lower than the daytimetemperature, the tire pressure may decreaseabout 3 psi (21 kPa) for a drop of 30°F (17°C)in ambient temperature. This lower pressurevalue may be detected by the tire pressuremonitoring system as being significantlylower than the recommended inflationpressure and activate the system warninglight for low tire pressure. If the low tirepressure warning light is on, visually checkeach tire to verify that no tire is flat. If one ormore tires are flat, repair as necessary.Check the air pressure in the road tires. Ifany tire is under-inflated, carefully drive thevehicle to the nearest location where air canbe added to the tires. Inflate all the tires tothe recommended inflation pressure.
CHANGING A ROAD WHEEL
WARNING: If the tire pressuremonitor sensor becomes damaged it maynot function.
Note:You should only use tire sealants inroadside emergencies as they may causedamage to the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensor.
Note:The tire pressure monitoring systemindicator light illuminates when the sparetire is in use. To restore the full function ofthe monitoring system, all road wheelsequipped with tire pressure monitoringsensors must be mounted on this vehicle.
If you get a flat tire when driving, do notapply the brake heavily. Instead, graduallydecrease your speed. Hold the steeringwheel firmly and slowly move to a safe placeon the side of the road.
Have a flat serviced by an authorized dealerin order to prevent damage to the systemsensors. See Tire Pressure MonitoringSystem (page 409). Replace the spare tirewith a road tire as soon as possible. Duringrepairing or replacing of the flat tire, havethe authorized dealer inspect the systemsensor for damage.

Dissimilar Spare Wheel and TireAssembly Information
WARNING: Failure to follow theseguidelines could result in an increased riskof loss of vehicle control, injury or death.
If you have a dissimilar spare wheel and tire,then it is intended for temporary use only.This means that if you need to use it, youshould replace it as soon as possible with aroad wheel and tire assembly that is thesame size and type as the road tires andwheels that were originally provided. If thedissimilar spare tire or wheel is damaged, itshould be replaced rather than repaired.
A dissimilar spare wheel and tire assemblyis defined as a spare wheel and tire assemblythat is different in brand, size or appearancefrom the road tires and wheels.
Full-size dissimilar spare
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly, do not:
•Exceed 70 mph (113 km/h).
•Use more than one dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly at a time.
•Use snow chains on the end of thevehicle with the dissimilar spare wheeland tire assembly.
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly, it isrecommended that you do not:
•Exceed 50 mph (80 km/h) in 4WD.
•Engage 4WD unless the vehicle isstationary.
•Use 4WD on dry pavement.
The usage of a full-size dissimilar sparewheel and tire assembly can lead toimpairment of the following:
•Handling, stability and brakingperformance.
•Comfort and noise.
•Ground clearance and parking at curbs.
•Winter weather driving capability.
•Wet weather driving capability.
•Four-wheel driving capability.
When driving with the full-size dissimilarspare wheel and tire assembly additionalcaution should be given to:
•Towing a trailer.
•Driving vehicles equipped with a camperbody.
•Driving vehicles with a load on the cargorack.
Drive cautiously when using a full-sizedissimilar spare wheel and tire assembly andseek service as soon as possible.
Location of the Spare Tire and Tools
The spare tire is located under the vehicle,just forward of the rear bumper. The jack,swivel wrench and lug wrench are in thefollowing locations:

Tire Change Procedure
WARNING: Only use replacementtires and wheels that are the same size,load index, speed rating and type (such asP-metric versus LT-metric or all-seasonversus all-terrain) as those originallyprovided by Ford. The recommended tireand wheel size may be found on either theSafety Compliance Certification Label(affixed to either the door hinge pillar,door-latch post, or the door edge thatmeets the door-latch post, next to thedriver's seating position), or the Tire Labelwhich is located on the B-Pillar or edge ofthe driver's door. If this information is notfound on these labels, then you shouldcontact your authorized dealer as soon as
possible. Use of any tire or wheel notrecommended by Ford can affect thesafety and performance of your vehicle,which could result in an increased risk ofloss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover,personal injury and death.
WARNING: When one of the frontwheels is off the ground, the transmissionalone will not prevent the vehicle frommoving or slipping off the jack, even if thetransmission is in park (P).
WARNING: To help prevent yourvehicle from moving when changing awheel, shift the transmission into park (P),set the parking brake and use anappropriate block or wheel chock tosecure the wheel diagonally opposite tothe wheel being changed. For example,when changing the front left wheel, placean appropriate block or wheel chock onthe right rear wheel.
WARNING: Do not attempt to changea tire on the side of the vehicle close tomoving traffic. Pull far enough off the roadto avoid the danger of being hit whenoperating the jack or changing the wheel.

1. Position the jack at the jacking pointindicator arrow closest to the flat tirelocation. Assemble the jack driveextension to the lug wrench as shownand use it to turn the jack drive clockwiseto raise the vehicle until the flat tire iscompletely off the ground.

1.Remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench.Replace the flat tire with the spare tire,making sure the valve stem is facingoutward.
2. Reinstall the lug nuts until the wheel issnug against the hub. Do not fully tightenthe lug nuts until the wheel has beenlowered.
3. Completely lower the vehicle by turningthe jack drive counterclockwise.
4.Remove the jack and fully tighten the lugnuts in the order shown. See TechnicalSpecifications (page 420).
