Always inflate your tires to the Fordrecommended inflation pressure evenif it is less than the maximum inflationpressure information found on the tire.The Ford recommended tire inflationpressure is found on the SafetyCompliance Certification Label (affixedto either the door hinge pillar, door-latchpost, or the door edge that meets thedoor-latch post, next to the driver'sseating position), or Tire Label which islocated on the B-Pillar or the edge of thedriver’s door. Failure to follow the tirepressure recommendations can causeuneven treadwear patterns andadversely affect the way your vehiclehandles.
Maximum Inflation Pressure is the tiremanufacturer's maximum permissible
pressure and the pressure at which themaximum load can be carried by the tire.This pressure is normally higher than themanufacturer’s recommended coldinflation pressure, which can be foundon the Safety Compliance CertificationLabel (affixed to either the door hingepillar, door-latch post, or the door edge
that meets the door-latch post, next tothe driver's seating position), or TireLabel which is located on the B-Pillar orthe edge of the driver’s door. The coldinflation pressure should never be setlower than the recommended pressureon the Safety Compliance CertificationLabel or Tire Label.
When weather temperature changesoccur, tire inflation pressures alsochange. A 10°F (6°C) temperature dropcan cause a corresponding drop of 1 psi(7 kPa) in inflation pressure. Check yourtire pressures frequently and adjustthem to the proper pressure which canbe found on the Safety ComplianceCertification Label or Tire Label.
To check the pressure in your tire(s):
1. Make sure the tires are cool, meaningthey are not hot from driving even amile.
Note:If you are checking tire pressurewhen the tire is hot, (for example, drivenmore than 1 mile [1.6 kilometers], neverbleed or reduce air pressure. The tiresare hot from driving and it is normal forpressures to increase aboverecommended cold pressures. A hot tireat or below recommended cold inflationpressure could be significantlyunder-inflated.
Note:If you have to drive a distance toget air for your tire(s), check and recordthe tire pressure first and add theappropriate air pressure when you getto the pump. It is normal for tires to heatup and the air pressure inside to go upas you drive.
2. Remove the cap from the valve on
one tire, then firmly press the tire gaugeonto the valve and measure thepressure.
3. Add enough air to reach therecommended air pressure.

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING
SYSTEM
WARNING
The tire pressure monitoring system isnot a substitute for manually checkingtire pressures. You should periodically checktire pressures using a pressure gauge.Failure to correctly maintain tire pressurescould increase the risk of tire failure, loss ofcontrol, vehicle rollover and personal injury.
Note: You should only use tire sealants inroadside emergencies as they may causedamage to the tire pressure monitoringsystem sensor.
Note: If the tire pressure monitoring systemsensor becomes damaged, it may notfunction.
Each tire, including the spare (ifprovided), should be checkedmonthly when cold and inflated tothe inflation pressure recommended by thevehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placardor tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehiclehas tires of a different size than the sizeindicated on the vehicle placard or tireinflation pressure label, you shoulddetermine the proper tire inflation pressurefor those tires).
As an added safety feature, your vehicle hasbeen equipped with a Tire PressureMonitoring System (TPMS) that illuminates alow tire pressure telltale when one or moreof your tires is significantly under-inflated.Accordingly, when the low tire pressuretelltale illuminates, you should stop andcheck your tires as soon as possible, andinflate them to the proper pressure. Drivingon a significantly under-inflated tire causesthe tire to overheat and can lead to tirefailure. Under-inflation also reduces fuelefficiency and tire tread life, and may affectthe vehicle’s handling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitutefor proper tire maintenance, and it is thedriver’s responsibility to maintain correct tirepressure, even if under-inflation has notreached the level to trigger illumination ofthe TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with aTPMS malfunction indicator to indicate whenthe system is not operating properly. TheTPMS malfunction indicator is combined withthe low tire pressure telltale. When thesystem detects a malfunction, the telltale willflash for approximately one minute and thenremain continuously illuminated. Thissequence will continue upon subsequentvehicle start-ups as long as the malfunctionexists.
When the malfunction indicator is illuminated,the system may not be able to detect orsignal low tire pressure as intended. TPMSmalfunctions may occur for a variety ofreasons, including the installation ofreplacement or alternate tires or wheels onthe vehicle that prevent the TPMS from

functioning properly. Always check the TPMSmalfunction telltale after replacing one ormore tires or wheels on your vehicle toensure that the replacement or alternate tiresand wheels allow the TPMS to continue tofunction properly.

Changing Tires With a Tire PressureMonitoring System
Note:Each road tire is equipped with a tirepressure sensor located inside the wheeland tire assembly cavity. The pressuresensor is attached to the valve stem. Thepressure sensor is covered by the tire andis not visible unless the tire is removed. Takecare when changing the tire to avoiddamaging the sensor.
You should always have your tires servicedby an authorized dealer.
Check the tire pressure periodically (at leastmonthly) using an accurate tire gauge. SeeWhen Inflating Your Tires in this chapter.
Understanding Your Tire PressureMonitoring System
The tire pressure monitoring systemmeasures pressure in your road tires andsends the tire pressure readings to yourvehicle. You can view the tire pressurereadings through the information display.See General Information (page 118). The lowtire pressure warning light will turn on if thetire pressure is significantly low. When Inflating Your Tires
WARNING
Do not use the tire pressure displayedin the information display as a tirepressure gauge. Failure to follow thisinstruction could result in personal injury ordeath.
When putting air into your tires (such as at agas station or in your garage), the tirepressure monitoring system may not respondimmediately to the air added to your tires.
It may take up to two minutes of driving over20 mph (32 km/h) for the light to turn off afteryou have filled your tires to therecommended inflation pressure.
How Temperature Affects Your TirePressure
The tire pressure monitoring system monitorstire pressure in each pneumatic tire. Whiledriving in a normal manner, a typicalpassenger tire inflation pressure mayincrease about 2–4 psi (14–28 kPa) from acold start situation. If the vehicle is stationary
overnight with the outside temperaturesignificantly lower than the daytimetemperature, the tire pressure may decreaseabout 3 psi (21 kPa) for a drop of 30°F (17°C)in ambient temperature. This lower pressurevalue may be detected by the tire pressuremonitoring system as being significantlylower than the recommended inflationpressure and activate the system warninglight for low tire pressure. If the low tirepressure warning light is on, visually checkeach tire to verify that no tire is flat. If one ormore tires are flat, repair as necessary.Check the air pressure in the road tires. Ifany tire is under-inflated, carefully drive thevehicle to the nearest location where air canbe added to the tires. Inflate all the tires tothe recommended inflation pressure.

Do not use tire sealants as they maydamage the tire pressure monitoringsystem.

Note:The use of tire sealant may damageyour tire pressure monitoring system andshould only be used in roadsideemergencies. If you must use a sealant, usethe Lincoln Tire Mobility Kit sealant. The tirepressure monitoring system sensor andvalve stem on the wheel must be replacedby an authorized dealer after use of thesealant.
Note:The tire pressure monitoring systemindicator light will illuminate when the sparetire is in use. To restore the full function ofthe monitoring system, all road wheelsequipped with tire pressure monitoringsensors must be mounted on the vehicle.
If you get a flat tire while driving, do not applythe brake heavily. Instead, graduallydecrease your speed. Hold the steeringwheel firmly and slowly move to a safe placeon the side of the road.

Do not expose discs to direct sunlight or heatsources for extended periods.
MP3 and WMA Track and FolderStructure
Audio systems capable of recognizing andplaying MP3 and WMA individual tracks andfolder structures work as follows:
•There are two different modes for MP3and WMA disc playback: MP3 and WMAtrack mode (system default) and MP3 andWMA folder mode.
•MP3 and WMA track mode ignores anyfolder structure on the MP3 and WMAdisc. The player numbers each MP3 andWMA track on the disc (noted by the MP3or WMA file extension) from T001 to amaximum of T255. The maximum numberof playable MP3 and WMA files may beless depending on the structure of theCD and exact model of radio present.
•MP3 and WMA folder mode representsa folder structure consisting of one levelof folders. The CD player numbers allMP3 and WMA tracks on the disc (notedby the MP3 or WMA file extension) andall folders containing MP3 and WMA files,from F001 (folder) T001 (track) to F253T255.
•Creating discs with only one level offolders helps with navigation through thedisc files.
If you are burning your own MP3 and WMAdiscs, it is important to understand how thesystem reads the structures you create. Whilevarious files may be present (files withextensions other than MP3 and WMA), onlyfiles with the MP3 and WMA extension areplayed; other files are ignored by the system.This enables you to use the same MP3 andWMA disc for a variety of tasks on your workcomputer, home computer and yourin-vehicle system.
In track mode, the system displays and playsthe structure as if it were only one level deep(all MP3 and WMA files play, regardless ofbeing in a specific folder). In folder mode,the system only plays the MP3 and WMA filesin the current folder.

Getting to Know Your System
The SYNC 3 system allows you to interactwith a variety of features using thetouchscreen and voice commands. Byintegrating with your Bluetooth-enabledphone, the touchscreen provides easyinteraction with audio, multimedia, climatecontrol, navigation, and your phone's SYNC3 compatible apps.
Using the Touchscreen
To operate the touchscreen, you can simplytouch the item or option that you want toselect. The button changes color when youselect it.

Cleaning the Touchscreen
You can remove fingerprints with a dry,clean, soft cloth.
If dirt or fingerprints are still on the screen,apply a small amount of alcohol to the clothand try to clean it again.
Note: Do not use detergent or any type ofsolvent to clean the touchscreen.
Note:Do not pour or spray alcohol onto thetouchscreen.
Using Voice Recognition
Using voice commands allows you to keepyour hands on the wheel and focus on whatis in front of you. The system providesfeedback through audible tones, prompts,questions and spoken confirmationsdepending on the situation and the chosenlevel of interaction (voice settings).
The system also asks short questions(confirmation prompts) when it is not sure ofyour request or when there are multiplepossible responses to your request.
When using voice commands, words andicons may appear in the status bar indicatingthe status of the voice command session.See Using Voice Recognition (page 425).
