RX450h_RX450hL _U_OM48F85UAfter installing the child restraint syst em, rock it back and forth to ensure
that it is installed securely. ( → P. 66)■
When installing in the rear center seat
There are no LATCH anchors behind th e rear center seat. However, the
inboard LATCH anchors of the outboard seats, which are 18.1 in. (460 mm)
apart, can be used if the child restrain t system manufacturer’s instructions per-
mit use of those anchors with the anchor spacing stated.
Child restraint systems with rigid lower attachments cannot be installed in the
center seat. This type of child restraint system can only be installed in the out-
board seat. ■
Laws and regulations pertaining to anchors
The LATCH system conforms to FMVSS225 or CMVSS210.2.
Child restraint systems conforming to FMV SS213 or CMVSS213 specifications can be
used.
This vehicle is designed to conform to SAE J1819.
WARNING ■
When installing a child restraint system
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.●
When using the LATCH anchors, be sure that there are no foreign objects around the
anchors and that the seat belt is not ca ught behind the child restraint system.●
Follow all installation instructions provided by the child restraint system manufacturer.●
Never attach two child restrain t system attach ments to the same anchor. In a collision,
one anchor may not be strong enough to hold two child restraint system attachments
and may break.
If the LATCH anchors are already in use, use the seat belt to inst all a child restraint
system in the center seat. ●
When securing some types of child restraint systems in rear seats, it may not be possi-
ble to properly use the seat belts in positions next to the child restraint without inter-
fering with it or affecting seat belt effectiveness. Be sure your seat belt fits snugly
across your shoulder and low on your hips. If it does not, or if it interferes with the child
restraint, move to a different position. Failure to do so ma y result in death or serious
injury. ●
When installing a child restraint system in th e rear center seat, adjust both seat cush-
ions to the same position an d align both seatbacks at th e same angle. The seatbacks
must be adjusted to the same angle. Othe rwise, the child restra int system cannot be
securely restrained and this may cause death or serious injuries in the event of sudden
braking, sudden swerving or an accident. ●
If the seat is adjusted, reconfirm the security of the child restraint system.6

apply the parking brake when parked.
The following sounds or vibrations may occu r when the hybrid system is operating and
are not a malfunction: ●
Motor sounds may be heard from the engine compartment. ●
Sounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) be hind the rear seats
when the hybrid system starts or stops. ●
Relay operating sounds such as a snap or so ft clank will be emitted from the hybrid bat-
tery (traction battery), behind the rear se ats, when the hybrid system is started or
stopped. ●
Sounds from the hybrid system may be heard when the back door is open. ●
Sounds may be heard from the transmission wh en the gasoline engine starts or stops,
when driving at low spee ds, or during idling.●
Engine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply. ●
Sounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the brake pedal is depressed
or as the accelerator pedal is released. ●

lead to a reduction in hybrid battery
(traction battery) output.

When a certain level of impact is detect ed by the impact sensor, the emergency
shut off system blocks the high voltage current and stops the fuel pump to mini-
mize the risk of electrocution and fuel leakage. If the emergency shut off system
activates, your vehicle will not restart. To restart the hybrid system, contact your
Lexus dealer.
A message is automatically displayed wh en a malfunction occurs in the hybrid
system or an improper operation is attempted.
If a warning message is shown on the
multi-information display, read the
message and follow the instructions.

WARNING ■
To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door open ing and an occupant falling out, resulting in
death or serious injury. ●
Ensure that all doors are properly closed and locked. ●
Do not pull the inside handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially careful for the front doors, as the doors may be opened even if the
inside lock buttons are in locked position. ●
Set the rear door child-protector locks wh en children are seated in the rear seats.■
When opening or closing a door
Check the surroundings of the vehicle such as whether the vehicle is on an incline,
whether there is enough space for a door to open and whether a strong wind is blow-
ing. When opening or closing the door, hold the door handle tightly to prepare for any
unpredictable movement.
