A recommended tongue weight varies in accordance with the types of trailers
or towing as described below. ●
To ensure the recommended values show n below, the trailer must be loaded
by referring to the following instructions.
• Tongue Weight
The gross trailer weight should be dist ributed so that the tongue weight is
9 % to 11 %. (Tongue weig ht/Gross trailer weight × 100 = 9 % to 11 %)

If using a weight distributing hitch when towing, return the front axle to the
same weight as before the trailer connection.
If front axle weight cannot be meas ured directly, measure the front fender
height above the front axle before co nnection. Adjust weight distributing
hitch torque until front fender is return ed to the same height as before con-
nection.
The gross trailer weight, gross axle weight and tongue weight can be mea-
sured with platform scales found at a highway weighing station, building

When trouble arises Remove all the wheel nuts and the
tire. When resting the tire on the ground,
place the tire so that the wheel design
faces up to avoid scratching the wheel
surface. 7
WARNING ■
Replacing a flat tire ●
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury:
• Lower the spare tire completely to the ground before removing it from under the
vehicle.
• Do not try to remove the wheel ornament by hand. Take due care in handling the
ornament to avoid unexpected personal injury.
• Do not touch the disc wheels or the area around the brakes immediately after the
vehicle has been driven.
After the vehicle has been driven the disc wheels and the area around the brakes
will be extremely hot. Touching these areas with hands, feet or other body parts
while changing a tire, etc. may result in burns.
• Turn off the vehicle height control.
The vehicle height may change due to th e automatic leveling function and you may
catch part of your body in the ve hicle, resulting in an accident. ( → P. 295)●
Failure to follow these precautions could cau se the wheel nuts to loosen and the tire
to fall off, resulting in death or serious injury.
• Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
Oil and grease may cause the wheel nuts to be excessively tightened, leading to
bolt or disc wheel damage. In addition, the oil or grease can cause the wheel nuts
to loosen and the wheel may fall off, causing a serious accident. Remove any oil or
grease from the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
• Have the wheel nuts tightened with a torque wrench to 97 ft
• lbf (131 N
• m, 13.4
kgf
• m) as soon as possible after changing wheels.
• When installing a tire, only use wheel nuts that have been specifically designed for
that wheel.
• If there are any cracks or deformations in the bolt screws, nut threads or bolt holes
of the wheel, have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer.
• Do not attach a heavily damaged wheel or nament, as it may fly off the wheel while
the vehicle is moving.■
Replacing a flat tire for vehicles with power back door
In cases such as when replacing tires, make sure to turn off the power back door main
switch ( → P. 124). Failure to do so may cause the back door to operate unintentionally if
the power back door switch is accidentally touched, re sulting in hands and fingers
being caught and injured.

from the wheel contact surface. If foreign matter is on the wheel contact
surface, the wheel nuts may loosen
while the vehicle is in motion, and the
tire may come off the vehicle.
Install the spare tire and loosely
tighten each nut by hand to approxi-
mately the same amount. Turn the nut washers until they come
into contact with the disc wheel.
Lower the vehicle.
Firmly tighten each nut two or three
times in the order shown in the illus-
tration. Tightening torque:

When trouble arises Raise the tire. While raising, secure the tire, taking
care that the tire goes straight up with-
out catching on any surrounding part, to
prevent it from flying forward during a
collision or sudden braking.
After the tire goes half way up, check
that the suspended chain is able to enter
the tire hole, for proper storage.
Tightening torque:
33.2 ft•lbf (45 N•m, 4.6 kgf•m)
Confirm that the tire is not loose
after tightening:
Push and pull the tire
Try rotating Visually check to ensure the tire is
not hung on surrounding parts.
If looseness or misassembly exis ts, repeat step and step .
Repeat step , any time the tire is lowered or disturbed.
Stow the tools and jack securely. ■
After completing the tire change
The tire pressure warning system must be reset. ( → P. 487)3

When stowing the flat tire
Ensure that there is no object caught between the tire and the vehicle underbody. ■
When replacing the tires ●
When removing or fitting the wheels, tire s or the tire pressure warning valve and
transmitter, contact your Lexus dealer as the tire pressure wa rning valve and trans-
mitter may be damaged if not handled correctly. ●
Replace the grommets for the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters as well.■
To avoid damage to the tire pressu re warning valves and transmitters
When a tire is repaired with liquid sealants, the tire pressure warning valve and trans-
mitter may not operate properly. If a liquid sealant is used, contact your Lexus dealer or
other qualified service shop as soon as possi ble. Make sure to replace the tire pressure
warning valve and transmitter when replacing the tire. ( → P. 487) 3 4
