Booster seat
1 If installing the child restraint sys-
tem to the front passenger seat is
unavoidable, refer to P.47 for front
passenger seat adjustment.
2 Place the child restraint system on
the seat facing the front of the vehi-
cle.
Booster type
High back type
4 Sit the child in the child restraint
system. Fit the seat belt to the child
restraint system according to the
manufacturer’s in structions and
insert the plate into the buckle.
Make sure that the belt is not
twisted.Check that the shoulder belt is correctly
positioned over the child’s shoulder and
that the lap belt is as low as possible. ( → P.24)
■
Removing a child restraint system
installed with a seat belt
Press the buckle release button and
fully retract the seat belt. When releasing the buckle, the child
restraint system may sp ring up due to the
rebound of the seat cushion. Release the
buckle while holding down the child
restraint system.
Since the seat belt auto matically reels itself,
slowly return it to the stowing position.
WARNING
■
When installing a child restraint sys-
tem
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.

For safety and security WARNING●
If your vehicle needs to be towed, do
so with four wheels raised. If the
wheels connected to the electric
motor (traction motor) are on the
ground when towing, the motor may
continue to generate electricity. This
may cause a fire. ( → P.422)●
Carefully inspect the ground under the
vehicle. If you find that liquid has
leaked onto the ground, the fuel sys-
tem may have been damaged. Leave
the vehicle as soon as possible.■
Hybrid battery (traction battery)●
Your vehicle contains a sealed lith-
ium-ion battery.●
Never resell, hand over or modify the
hybrid battery. To prevent accidents,
hybrid batteries that have been
removed from a disposed vehicle are
collected through your Lexus dealer.
Do not dispose of the battery yourself.
Unless the battery is properly collected,
the following may occur, resulting in
death or serious injury:
• The hybrid battery may be illegally dis-
posed of or dumped, and it is hazard-
ous to the environment or someone
may touch a high voltage part, result-
ing in an electric shock. • The hybrid battery is intended to be
used exclusively with your hybrid vehi-
cle. If the hybrid battery is used outside
of your vehicle or modified in any way,
accidents such as electric shock, heat
generation, smoke generation, an
explosion and electrolyte leakage may
occur.
When reselling or handing over your
vehicle, the possibility of an accident is
extremely high because the person
receiving the vehicle may not be aware
of these dangers. ●
If your vehicle is disposed of without
the hybrid battery having been
removed, there is a danger of serious
electric shock if hi gh voltage parts,
cables and their connectors are
touched. In the event that your vehicle
must be disposed of, the hybrid battery
must be disposed of by your Lexus
dealer or a qualified service shop. If
the hybrid battery is not disposed of
properly, it may cause electric shock
that can result in death or serious
injury.
NOTICE■
Hybrid battery (tra ction battery) air
intake vents
Do not carry large amounts of water
such as water cooler bottles in the vehi-
cle. If water spills onto the hybrid battery
(traction battery), the battery may be
damaged. Have the vehicle inspected by
your Lexus dealer.
150 3-4. Adjusting the steering wheel and mirrors
LS500h_OM_OM50F42U_(U) nor “R”.
To set the mirror angle used when the vehi-
cle is reversing, adjust the mirror angle at a
desired position with the shift position in R.
The adjusted angle will be memorized and
the mirror will automatically tilt to the mem-
orized angle whenever the shift position is
shifted to R from next time.
The memorized downward tilt position of
the mirror is linked to the normal position
(angle adjusted with the shift position in
other than R). Therefore, if the normal posi-
tion is changed after adjustment, the tilt
position will also change.
When the normal position is changed, read-
just the angle in reversing.
■
Using the switch
Press the switch to fold the mirrors. Press it again to extend them to the original
position.
■
Setting automatic mode
Automatic mode allows the folding or
extending of the mirrors to be linked to locking/unlocking of the doors.
Press the “AUTO” switch to set auto-
matic mode. The indicator will come on.
Pressing the switch on ce more will return
to manual mode.
■
When disconnecting and reconnecting
12-volt battery terminals
The automatic folding/extending mirror
function will return to off as default. To turn
the function on, press the switch again to
select on. ■
Using automatic mode in cold weather
When automatic mode is used in cold
weather, the door mirror could freeze up
and automatic stowing and return may not
be possible. In this case, remove any ice and
snow from the door mirror, then either
operate the mirror using manual mode or
move the mirror by hand. ■
Customization
Some functions can be customized.
( → P.481)WARNING■
When the mirror defoggers are oper-
ating
Do not touch the rear view mirror sur-
faces, as they can become very hot and
burn you.
Folding and extending the mir-
rors
WARNING
■
When a mirror is moving
To avoid personal injury and mirror mal-
function, be careful not to get your hand
caught by the moving mirror. A

164 4-1. Before driving
LS500h_OM_OM50F42U_(U) Cargo capacity depends on the total
weight of the occupants.
(Cargo capacity) = (Total load capac-
ity) — (Total weight of occupants)
Steps for Determining Correct Load
Limit —
(1) Locate the statement “The com-
bined weight of occupants and cargo
should never exceed XXX kg or XXX
lbs.” on your vehicle’s placard.
(2) Determine the combined weight of
the driver and passengers that will be
riding in your vehicle.
(3) Subtract the co mbined weight of
the driver and passengers from XXX
kg or XXX lbs.
(4) The resulting figure equals the
available amount of cargo and luggage
load capacity.
For example, if the “XXX” amount
equals 1400 lbs. and there will be five
150 lb passengers in your vehicle, the
amount of available cargo and luggage
load capacity is 650 lbs. (1400 − 750
(5 × 150) = 650 lbs.)
(5) Determine the combined weight of
luggage and cargo being loaded on
the vehicle. That weight may not safely
exceed the available cargo and lug- gage load capacity calculated in Step
4.
(6) If your vehicle will be towing a
trailer, load from your trailer will be
transferred to your vehicle. Consult
this manual to determine how this
reduces the available cargo and lug-
gage load capacity of your vehicle.
( → P.166) Lexus does not recommend towing a
trailer with your vehicle. Your vehicle is not
designed for trailer towing.
Cargo capacity
Total load capacity (vehicle capac-
ity weight) ( → P.460)
When 2 people with the combined
weight of A lb. (kg) are riding in your
vehicle, which has a total load capacity
(vehicle capacity weight) of B lb. (kg),
the available amount of cargo and lug-
gage load capacity will be C lb. (kg) as
follows:
B *2
lb. (kg) - A *1
lb. (kg) = C *3
lb. (kg)*1
: A =Weight of people *2
