Driving
■
Pedestrian alert
When the system determines that
there is a possibility of a frontal collision
with a stationary or moving pedestrian
in front of your vehicle, a message will
be displayed on the head-up display to
warn the driver. ■
Pre-collision warning
When the system determines that the
possibility of a frontal collision is high, a
buzzer will sound and a warning mes-
sage will be displayed on the
multi-information display to urge the
driver to take evasive action.
■
Pre-collision brake assist
When the system determines that the
possibility of a frontal collision is high,
the system applies greater braking
force in relation to how strongly the
brake pedal is depressed. ■
Pre-collision braking
When the system determines that the
possibility of a frontal collision is high,
the system warns the driver. If the sys-
tem determines that the possibility of a
frontal collision is extremely high, the
brakes are automatically applied to
help avoid the collision or reduce the
collision speed.PCS (Pre-Collision System)
(vehicles with Lexus Safety
System+A) The pre-collision system uses a
front radar sensor and camera sen-
sor to detect vehicles and pedestri-
ans in front of your vehicle and front
side sensors to detect vehicles
approaching from the front left or
right side. When the system deter-
mines that the possibility of a frontal
collision with a vehicle or pedes-
trian is high, a warning operates to
urge the driver to take evasive
action and the potential brake pres-
sure is increased to help the driver
avoid the collision. If the system
determines that the possibility of a
frontal collision with a vehicle or
pedestrian is extremely high, the
brakes are automatically applied to
help avoid the collision or help
reduce the impact of the collision.
The pre-collision system can be dis-
abled/enabled and the warning tim-
ing can be changed. ( → P.213)

ing timing
The pre-collision warning timing can
be changed on ( → P.86) of the
multi-information display. The warning
timing for the pedestrian and FCTA
(Front Cross Traffic Alert) system will
also be changed. The operation timing setting is retained
when the power swit ch is turned off.
1 FarThe warning will begin to operate earlier
than with the default timing.
2 MiddleThis is the default setting.
3 NearThe warning will begin to operate later
than with the default timing.
■
Changing the pedestrian alert tim-
ing
If the pre-collision warning timing is
changed, the pedestrian alert and
FCTA (Front Cross Traffic Alert) timing
will also be changed accordingly. ■
Operational conditions
The pre-collision system is enabled and the
system determines that the possibility of a
frontal collision with a vehicle, pedes-
trian/bicyclist, guardrail, etc. or a front side
collision with a vehicle is high. Each function
is operational at th e following speeds:●
Pedestrian alert:
• Vehicle speed is between approximately
20 and 40 mph (30 and 65 km/h) ●
Pre-collision warning:
• Vehicle speed is between approximately
3 and 110 mph (5 and 180 km/h). (For
detecting a pedestrian or bicyclist, vehi-
cle speed is between approximately 3
and 50 mph [5 and 80 km/h] and for
detecting a vehicle approaching from the
front left or right side, vehicle speed is
between approximately 7 and 37 mph
[10 and 60 km/h].)
• The relative speed between your vehicle
and the detected pedestrian, bicyclist or
vehicle ahead is approximately 3 mph (5
km/h) or more. (For detecting a vehicle
approaching from the front left or right
side, the speed of the approaching vehi-
cle is between approximately 10 and 37
mph [15 and 60 km/h].) ●
Pre-collision brake assist:
• Vehicle speed is between approximately
20 and 110 mph (30 and 180 km/h). (For
detecting a pedestrian or bicyclist, vehi-
cle speed is between approximately 20
and 50 mph [30 and 80 km/h] and for
detecting a vehicle approaching from the
front left or right side, vehicle speed is
between approximately 19 and 37 mph
[30 and 60 km/h].)

Driving ●
In some situations such as the following,
the system may detect a pedestrian and
display a warning on the head-up display,
even though no pedestrian exists:
• If the front of the vehicle is raised or low-
ered, such as when the road surface is
uneven or undulating (due to ruts, etc.)
• When driving on a slope
• When driving on a horizontally slanted
road
• If the driver’s posture (driver seat posi-
tion) is extreme, such as excessively
reclined
• If the head-up display position is set
extremely high■
If the PCS warning light flashes or illumi-
nates and a warning message is dis-
played on the multi-information display
The pre-collision system may be temporar-
ily unavailable or there may be a malfunc-
tion in the system. ●
In the following situations, the warning
light will turn off, the message will disap-
pear and the system will become opera-
tional when normal operating conditions
return:
• When a sensor or the area around a sen-
sor is hot, such as in the sun
• When a sensor or the area around a sen-
sor is cold, such as in an extremely cold
environment
• When a sensor is dirty or covered with
snow, etc.
• When the part of the windshield in front
of the camera sensor is fogged up or cov-
ered with condensation or ice (Defog-
ging the windshield: → P.324)
• If the camera sensor is obstructed, such
as when the hood is open or a sticker is
attached to the windshield near the cam-
era sensor
●
If the PCS warning ligh t continues to flash
or remains illuminated or the warning
message does not disappear even
though the vehicle has returned to nor-
mal, the system may be malfunctioning.
Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus
dealer immediately.
■
If VSC is disabled
●
If VSC is disabled ( → P.302), the
pre-collision brake assist and pre-colli- sion braking functions are also disabled. ●
The PCS warning light will turn on and
“VSC Turned Off Pre-Collision Brake

equipped])
If the system determines that the possi-
bility of a frontal collision is high, it may
move the seatbacks of the front pas-
senger’s seat and power rear seats to
the upright position automatically, if
reclined. If a seat is being adjusted, it may not be
moved by the pre-collis ion seat function.
■
Suspension control
When the system determines that the
possibility of a frontal collision is high, PCS (Pre-Collision System)
(vehicles with Lexus Safety
System+) The pre-collision system uses a
radar sensor and camera sensor to
detect vehicles and pedestrians in
front of your vehicle. When the sys-
tem determines that the possibility
of a frontal collision with a vehicle
or pedestrian is high, a warning
operates to urge the driver to take
evasive action and the potential
brake pressure is increased to help
the driver avoid the collision. If the
system determines that the possi-
bility of a frontal collision with a
vehicle or pedestrian is extremely
high, the brakes are automatically
applied to help avoid the collision or
help reduce the impact of the colli-
sion.

The system operates when all of the follow-
ing conditions are met.FCTA (Front Cross Traffic
Alert) *
When approaching an intersection
at low speed, the radar sensors on
the front side of the vehicle can
detect approaching vehicles to the
left and right of the front of the vehi-
cle. In this case, the head-up display
is used to inform the driver of
detected vehicles.
FCTA system functions WARNING■
Cautions regarding the use of the
function
The driver is solely responsible for safe
driving. Always drive safely, taking care
to observe your surroundings.
The FCTA system is a supplementary
system that informs the driver of vehicles
approaching from the left and right of the
front of the vehicle.
Do not overly rely on the FCTA system.
Over reliance on the system may lead to
an accident, resulting in death or serious
injury.
The details of the warning display may
differ from the actual traffic conditions.
Although the warning display will stop
being displayed after a certain amount of
time, this does not indicate that vehicles
or pedestrians are no longer around your
vehicle.
