■To protect the automatic transmission
If the automatic transmission fluid tempera-
ture is high, “Transmission Fluid Temp High See Owner’s Manual” will be displayed on the multi-information display and the vehi-
cle will go into transmission protection mode automatically. Have the vehicle inspected by any authorized Lexus retailer
or Lexus authorized repairer, or any reliable repairer.
■When driving with cruise control or dynamic radar cruise control with full-
speed range activated
Even when performing the following
actions with the intent of enabling engine braking, engine braking will not be acti-vated because cruise control or dynamic
radar cruise control with full-speed range will not be canceled.
●While driving in the D position, down-shifting to 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 or 4.
●When switching the driving mode to sport mode while driving in D position. ( P.242)

The AI-SHIFT automatically selects the suit-
able gear according to driver performance and driving conditions.The AI-SHIFT automatically operates when

To prevent the shift position from being selected incorrectly or the vehicle from
moving unexpectedly, the shift position may be changed automatically or operating the shift lever may be required. In this case,

●The display indicates that no shift posi-

■Shifting the shift position from P to
other positions
 While depressing the brake pedal
firmly, operate the shift lever. If the
shift lever is operated without
depressing the brake pedal, the
buzzer will sound and the shifting
operation will be disabled.
 When selecting the shift position,
make sure that the shift position has
been changed to the desired posi-
tion by checking the shift position
indicator provided on the instru-
ment cluster.
 The shift position cannot be
changed from P to M directly.
■Automatic P position selection function
In the following situations, the shift position is automatically changed to P.
●When pressing the engine switch with the vehicle stopped while the engine switch is
in IGNITION ON mode and the shift position is in a positi on other than P (after the shift position has changed to P, the
engine switch will turn off)*
●When the vehicle is stopped after the engine has been stopped in an emer-gency while driving
●When voltage of the 12-volt battery drops while the shift position is in a posi-
tion other than P
*: When the engine switch is pressed while
driving at extremely slow speeds, such as

completely stopped before pressing the
engine switch.
■If the shift position cannot be shifted
from P
There is a possibility that the 12-volt battery
is discharged. Check the 12-volt battery in this situation. ( P.392)

while the vehicle is moving. If the P position switch is pressed when driving at very low speeds (for exam-
ple, directly before stopping the vehi- cle), the vehicle may stop suddenly when the shift position switches to P,
which could lead to an accident.
●In order to prevent the shift position from accidentally being changed, do not touch the P position switch when
not using them.
NOTICE
■Notes regarding shift lever and P position switch operation
Avoid repeatedly operating the shift lever and P position switch in quick suc-cession.
The system protection function may acti- vate and it will not be temporarily possi-
ble to shift the shift position other than P. If this happens, please wait for a while before attempting to change the shift
position again.

Shift lever
Operate the shift lever gently and securely
in the direction of the arrow on the shift
position indicator.
To shift to N, slide the shift lever in the
direction of the arrow and hold it.
Release the shift lever after each shifting
operation to allow it to return to its regular
position ( ).
Shifting to M is only possible when the shift
position is in D.
When shifting from P to N, D or R, from N,
D or R to P, from D to R, or from R to D,
ensure that the brake pedal is being
depressed and the vehicle is stationary.
Shift position indicator

The current shift position is highlighted.
When any shift position other than D or M

■Hybrid battery (traction battery) charge
If the shift position is in N, the hybrid bat- tery (traction battery) will not be
charged. To help prevent the battery from discharging, avoid leaving the N position selected for an extended period
of time.

WARNING
■For the shift lever
●Do not remove the shift lever knob or use anything but a genuine Lexus shift lever knob. Also, do not hang anything
on the shift lever. Doing so could prevent the shift lever from returning to position, causing
unexpected accidents to occur when the vehicle is in motion.
●In order to prevent the shift position from accidentally being changed, do
not touch the shift lever when not using them.

Snow mode is automatically deactivated if the power switch is tu rned off after driving
in snow mode.
To drive using temporary shift range
selection, operate the “-” or “+” paddle
shift switch.

■Light reminder buzzer
A buzzer sounds when the engine switch is turned off or turned to ACCESSORY mode and the driver’s door
is opened while the lights are turned on.
■Automatic headlight leveling system
The level of the headlights is automatically adjusted according to the number of pas-sengers and the loading condition of the
vehicle to ensure that the headlights do not interfere with other road users.
■12-volt battery-saving function
In order to prevent 12-volt the battery of the vehicle from discharging, if the light switch
is in the or position when the
engine switch is turned off the 12-volt battery savi ng function will oper-
ate and automatically turn off all the lights after approximately 20 minutes.
When the engine switch is turned to IGNITION ON mode , the 12-volt battery-saving function
will be disabled.
When any of the following are performed,
the 12-volt battery-saving function is can- celed once and then reactivated. All the lights will turn off automatically 20 minutes
after the 12-volt battery- saving function has been reactivated:
●When the headlight switch is operated
●When a door is opened or closed
■Welcome light illumination control
The front position, tail lights and license plate lights automatically turn on at night
when the doors are unlocked using the entry function or wireless remote control if
the light switch is in the position.
■Customization
Settings (e.g. light sens or sensitivity) can be

Availability of the pedestrian detection function and pre-collision braking function
depend on the region in which the vehicle was sold.
Read the following for details:
Region A (The pedestrian detection function is available)
The pre-collision system is enabled and the system determines that the possibility of a
frontal collision with a vehicle or pedestrian is high.
Each function is operational at the following speeds:
●Pre-collision warning:• Vehicle speed is between approximately 10 and 180 km/h (7 and 110 mph). (For
detecting a pedestrian, vehicle speed is between approximately 10 and 80 km/h [7 and 50 mph].)
• The relative speed between your vehicle and the vehicle or pedestrian ahead is approximately 10 km/h (7 mph) or more.
●Pre-collision brake assist:• Vehicle speed is between approximately
30 and 180 km/h (20 and 110 mph). (For detecting a pedestrian, vehicle speed is between approximately 30 and 80 km/h

●If a 12-volt battery terminal has been dis-connected and reconnected and then the vehicle has not been driven for a certain
amount of time
●If the shift position is in R
●If VSC is disabled (only the pre-collision warning function will be operational)
●If the PCS warning light is flashing or illu-minated
■Pedestrian detection function*2
The pre-collision system detects pedestri-
ans based on the size, profile, and motion of a detected object. However, a pedestrian may not be detected depending on the sur-
rounding brightness and the motion, pos- ture, and angle of the detected object, preventing the system from operating prop-
erly. ( P.215)
*2: Depending on the region in which the
vehicle was sold, the pedestrian detec-
tion function may not be available.
■Cancelation of the pre-collision braking
If either of the following occur while the pre-collision braking function is operating, it will be canceled:
●The accelerator pedal is depressed strongly.
●The steering wheel is turned sharply or abruptly.
■Conditions under which the system may
operate even if there is no possibility of a collision
●In some situations such as the following, the system may determine that there is a possibility of a frontal collision and oper-
ate.
• When passing a vehicle or pedestrian*2
• When changing lanes while overtaking a preceding vehicle• When overtaking a preceding vehicle
that is changing lanes • When overtaking a preceding vehicle that is making a left/right turn
• When passing a vehicle in an oncoming lane that is stopped to make a right/left
turn
• When driving on a road where relative
location to vehicle ahead in an adjacent lane may change, such as on a winding road
• When rapidly closing on a vehicle ahead • If the front of the vehicle is raised or low-
ered, such as when the road surface is uneven or undulating• When approaching objects on the road-
