REAR PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)

The rear parking assist system assists
the driver during backward movement of the vehicle by chiming if any object is
sensed within a distance of 120 cm
(47 in.) behind the vehicle.
This system is a supplemental system and it is not intended to nor does it re‐
place the need for extreme care and
attention of the driver. The sensing range and objects detectable by the
back sensors ( ➀) are limited. Whenever
backing-up, pay as much attention to
what is behind you as you would in a
vehicle without a rear parking assist
system.
WARNING
The rear parking assist system is asupplementary function only. Theoperation of the rear parking assistsystem can be affected by severalfactors (including environmentalconditions). It is the responsibility ofthe driver to always check the areabehind the vehicle before and whilebacking up.
Operation of the rear parking
assist system
Operating condition
• This system will activate when back‐ ing up with the ignition switch ON.
If the vehicle is moving at a speed
over 5 km/h (3 mph), the system may not be activated correctly.
• The sensing distance while the rear parking assist system is in operation
is approximately 120 cm (47 in.).
• When more than two objects are sensed at the same time, the closest
one will be recognized first.
Types of warning soundIndicator*
When an object is 120 cm
to 61 cm (47 in. to 24 in.)
from the rear bumper:Buzzer beeps intermit‐tently.
When an object is 60 cm
to 31 cm (23 in. to 12 in.)
from the rear bumper:
Buzzer beeps more fre‐quently.

Non-operational conditions of
rear parking assist system
The rear parking assist systemmay not operate properly when:
1. Moisture is frozen to the sensor. (Itwill operate normally when the
moisture has been cleared.)
2. The sensor is covered with foreign matter, such as snow or water, or
the sensor cover is blocked. (It will
operate normally when the materi‐
al is removed or the sensor is no
longer blocked.)
3. Driving on uneven road surfaces (unpaved roads, gravel, bumps, gra‐ dient).
4. Objects generating excessive noise (vehicle horns, loud motorcycle en‐
gines, or truck air brakes) are with‐
in range of the sensor.
5. Heavy rain or water spray exists.
6. Wireless transmitters or mobile phones are within range of the
sensor.
7. The sensor is covered with snow.
8. Trailer towing.
The detecting range may decreasewhen:
1. The sensor is stained with foreign matter such as snow or water. (The
sensing range will return to normal
when removed.)
2. Outside air temperature is ex‐ tremely hot or cold.
The following objects may not berecognized by the sensor:
1. Sharp or slim objects such as ropes,chains or small poles.
2. Objects which tend to absorb the sensor frequency such as clothes,
spongy material or snow.
3. Undetectable objects smaller than 1 m (40 in.) in height and narrower
than 14 cm (6 in.) in diameter.
Rear parking assist system
precautions
• The rear parking assist system may not sound consistently depending on
the speed and shapes of the objects detected. • The rear parking assist system may
malfunction if the vehicle bumper
height or sensor installation has been
modified or damaged. Any non-fac‐
tory installed equipment or accesso‐ ries may also interfere with the sen‐
sor performance.
• The sensor may not recognize ob‐ jects less than 30 cm (12 in.) from
the sensor, or it may sense an incor‐
rect distance. Use caution.
• When the sensor is frozen or stained with snow, dirt, or water, the sensor
may be inoperative until the stains
are removed using a soft cloth.
• Do not push, scratch or strike the sensor. Sensor damage could occur.
NOTICE
This system can only sense objects
within the range and location of the
sensors; It can not detect objects in
other areas where sensors are not

Be sure to inform any drivers of the
vehicle that may be unfamiliar with
the system regarding the systems
capabilities and limitations.
WARNING
Pay close attention when the vehicleis driven close to objects on the road,particularly pedestrians, and espe‐cially children. Be aware that someobjects may not be detected by thesensors, due to the object’s distance,size or material, all of which can lim‐it the effectiveness of the sensor.Always perform a visual inspectionto make sure the vehicle is clear ofall obstructions before moving thevehicle in any direction.
Self-diagnosis
If you don’t hear an audible warning
sound or if the buzzer sounds intermit‐
tently when shifting the gear to the R (Reverse) position, this may indicate a
malfunction in the rear parking assist
system. If this occurs, have the system checked by a professional workshop.

Kia dealer/service partner.

BRAKE SYSTEM
Power brakes
Your vehicle has power-assisted brakesthat adjust automatically through nor‐
mal usage.
In the event that the power-assisted
brakes lose power because of a stalled engine or some other reason, you can
still stop your vehicle by applying
greater force to the brake pedal than you normally would. The stopping dis‐
tance, however, will be longer.
When the engine is not running, the re‐
serve brake power is partially depleted each time the brake pedal is applied. Do
not pump the brake pedal when the
power assist has been interrupted.
Pump the brake pedal only when nec‐ essary to maintain steering control on
slippery surfaces.

•Do not drive with your foot restingon the brake pedal. This will createabnormal high brake tempera‐tures, excessive brake lining andpad wear, and increased stoppingdistances.
•When descending a long or steephill, shift to a lower gear and avoidcontinuous application of thebrakes. Continuous brake applica‐tion will cause the brakes to over‐heat and could result in a tempo‐rary loss of braking performance.
•Wet brakes may impair the vehi‐cle’s ability to safely slow down;the vehicle may also pull to oneside when the brakes are applied.Applying the brakes lightly will in‐dicate whether they have been af‐fected in this way. Always testyour brakes in this fashion afterdriving through deep water. To drythe brakes, apply them lightlywhile maintaining a safe forwardspeed until brake performance re‐turns to normal.

•Always, confirm the position ofthe brake and accelerator pedalbefore driving. If you don't checkthe position of the accelerator andbrake pedal before driving, youmay depress the accelerator in‐stead of the brake pedal. It maycause a serious accident.
In the event of brake failure
If service brakes fail to operate while
the vehicle is in motion, you can make an emergency stop with the parking
brake. The stopping distance, however,
will be much greater than normal.
WARNING
nParking brake
Applying the parking brake while thevehicle is moving at normal speedscan cause a sudden loss of control ofthe vehicle. If you must use theparking brake to stop the vehicle,use great caution in applying thebrake.
