• Lock the doors by pressing thelock button on the smart key.

above, the hazard warning lights
will operate once to indicate thatthe system is armed.
If any door (and tailgate) or en‐
gine hood remains open, the haz‐
ard warning lights won't operate
and theft-alarm will not arm. Af‐
ter this, if all doors (and tailgate)
and engine hood are closed, thehazard warning lights blink once.
Using the transmitter
Park the vehicle and stop the engine.
Arm the system as described below. 1. Turn off the engine and remove the ignition key from the ignition
switch.
2. Make sure that all doors (and tail‐ gate), the engine hood are closed
and latched. 3. Lock the doors by pressing the lock
button on the transmitter.
After completion of the steps
above, the hazard warning lights
will blink once to indicate that the
system is armed.
If any door (and tailgate) or engine
hood remains open, the hazard
warning lights won't operate and
theft-alarm will not arm. After this,if all doors (and tailgate) and engine
hood are closed, the hazard warn‐
ing lights blink once.

Do not arm the system until all pas‐sengers have left the vehicle. If thesystem is armed while a passenger(s)remains in the vehicle, the alarm maybe activated when the remaining pas‐senger(s) leave the vehicle. If anydoor, tailgate or engine hood isopened within 30 seconds after en‐tering the armed stage, the systemis disarmed to prevent unnecessaryalarm.
Theft-alarm stage
The alarm will be activated if any of the
following occurs while the system is armed. • A door is opened without using the transmitter (or smart key). • The tailgate is opened without using
the transmitter (or smart key).
• The engine hood is opened.
The horn will sound and the hazard
warning lights will blink continuously for approximately 30 seconds. To turn
off the system, unlock the doors with
the transmitter (or smart key).
Disarmed stage
The system will be disarmed when:
Transmitter
- The door unlock button is pressed.
- The engine is started.
- The ignition switch is in the L

After pressing the unlock button, if any
door (or tailgate) is not opened within 30 seconds, the system will be re‐
armed.
NOTICE
nNon-immobilizer system
•Avoid trying to start the engine
while the alarm is activated. The
vehicle starting motor is disabled
during the theft-alarm stage.
If the system is not disarmed with
the transmitter, insert the key in‐
to the ignition switch, turn the ig‐
nition switch to the ON position
and wait for 30 seconds. Then the
system will be disarmed.
•If you lose your keys, Kia recom‐
mends to visit an authorized Kia
dealer/service partner.

DOOR LOCKS
Operating door locks from
outside the vehicle
Mechanical key
• Turn the key toward the rear of thevehicle to lock and toward the front
of the vehicle to unlock.
• If you lock/unlock the door with a key, the doors will lock/unlock.
• If you lock/unlock the driver’s door with a key, all vehicle doors will lock/
unlock automatically. (if equipped) • From the driver’s door, turn the key
toward the rear of the vehicle once to
unlock the driver’s door and once
more within 4 seconds to unlock all doors. (if equipped)
• Once the doors are unlocked, they may be opened by pulling the door
handle.
• When closing the door, push the door by hand. Make sure that doors are
closed securely.
Transmitter/Smart key
• Doors can be locked and unlocked with the transmitter (or smart key).
(if equipped)
• Doors can be locked and unlocked pressing the button of the outside
door handle with the smart key in
your possession.
• From the driver's door, press the un‐ lock button once to unlock the driv‐
er's door and once more within 4 sec‐ onds to unlock all doors. (if equipped)
• Once the doors are unlocked, they may be opened by pulling the door
handle. • When closing the door, push the door
by hand. Make sure that doors are
closed securely.
NOTICE
•In cold and wet climates, door
locks and door mechanisms may
not work properly due to freezing
conditions.
•If the door is locked/unlocked mul‐
tiple times in rapid succession with
either the vehicle key or door lock
switch, the system may stop op‐
erating temporarily in order to
protect the circuit and prevent
damage to system components.
WARNING
•If you don't close the door secure‐ly, the door may open again.
•Be careful that someone's bodyand hands are not trapped whenclosing the door.

WARNING
If people must spend a longer time inthe vehicle while it is very hot or coldoutside, there is risk of injuries ordanger to life. Do not lock the vehiclefrom the outside when there arepeople in it.
CAUTION
Do not frequently repeat openingand closing of doors, or apply exces‐sive force to a door while the doorcloser is operating.
In case of an emergency (if
equipped)
If the power door lock switch does not
operate electrically, the only way to lock the door(s) is with the mechanical
key from the outside key hole.
Doors without the outside key hole,
you can lock the door as follows: 1. Open the door.
2. Insert the key into the emergency door lock hole and turn the key
horizontally to lock (1).
3. Close the door securely.
NOTICE
Once the tailgate is closed when the
power door lock switch does not op‐
erate electrically, you will not be
able to open the tailgate.

the door is locked, the door will unlock and open.

WARNING
nDoor lock malfunction
If a power door lock ever fails tofunction while you are in the vehicle,try one or more of the followingtechniques to exit:•Operate the door unlock featurerepeatedly (both electronic andmanual) while simultaneously pull‐ing on the door handle.
•Operate the other door locks andhandles, front and rear.
•Lower a front window and use thekey to unlock the door from out‐side.
•Move to the cargo area and openthe tailgate.
WARNING
Do not pull the inner door handle ofdriver's (or passenger's) door whilethe vehicle is moving.
With central door lock/unlock
switch
It is operated by pressing the door lock/
unlock switch. • When you press the central door lock switch, all vehicle doors will lock andthe indicator light on the switch will
illuminate. • If any front door is opened when the
switch is pressed, all doors will not
lock.
• If any door is unlocked, the indicator of the central door lock switch will go
off.
• When you press the central door un‐ lock switch, all vehicle doors will un‐
lock.
• If one of the rear door is unlocked while all doors are locked, the indica‐tor will blink.
NOTICE
Once the doors are locked with the
transmitter or smart key, the doors
cannot be unlocked with the central
door lock/ unlock switch.

•The doors should always be fullyclosed and locked while the vehicleis in motion to prevent accidentalopening of the door. Locked doorswill also discourage potential in‐truders when the vehicle stops orslows down.
•Be careful when opening doors andwatch for vehicles, motorcycles,bicycles or pedestrians approach‐ing the vehicle in the path of thedoor. Opening a door when some‐thing is approaching can causedamage or injury.
WARNING
nUnlocked vehicles
Leaving your vehicle unlocked can in‐vite theft or possible harm to you orothers from someone hiding in yourvehicle while you are gone. Alwaysremove the ignition key, engage theparking brake, close all windows andlock all doors when leaving your ve‐hicle unattended.
WARNING
nUnattended children
An enclosed vehicle can become ex‐tremely hot, causing death or severeinjury to unattended children or ani‐mals who cannot escape the vehicle.Furthermore, children might operatefeatures of the vehicle that could in‐jure them, or they could encounterother harm, possibly from someonegaining entry to the vehicle. Neverleave children or animals unattendedin your vehicle.
Impact sensing door unlock
system (if equipped)
All doors will automatically unlock after
an impact causes the air bags to de‐ ploy.
Speed sensing door lock system
(if equipped)
All doors will be automatically locked
after the vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h. And all doors will be automat‐
ically unlocked when you turn the en‐ gine off and when you remove the igni‐
tion key. (if equipped)
Child-protector rear door lock
The child safety lock is provided to help
prevent children from accidentally opening the rear doors from inside the
vehicle. The rear door safety locks
should be used whenever children are in the vehicle. 1. Open the rear door.
2. Insert a key (or screwdriver) into the hole and turn it to the lock (

position. When the child safety lock
is in the lock position, the rear door
will not open even though the inner
door handle is pulled.
3. Close the rear door.

TAILGATE
Opening the tailgate

• The tailgate is locked or unlockedwhen all doors are locked or unlocked
with the transmitter (or smart key)
or central door lock switch.
• If unlocked, the tailgate can be opened by pressing the handle and
pulling it up.
• When all doors are lock if the tailgate unlock button on the smart key is
pressed for more than 1 second, the tailgate is unlocked. Once the tailgate
is opened and then closed, the tail‐
gate is locked automatically.

NOTICE
In cold and wet climates, door lock

The tailgate swings upward. Makesure no objects or people are nearthe rear of the vehicle when openingthe tailgate.

Closing the tailgate

nExhaust fumes
If you drive with the tailgate open,you will draw dangerous exhaustfumes into your vehicle which cancause serious injury or death to vehi‐cle occupants.If you must drive with the tailgateopen, keep the air vents and all win‐dows open so that additional outsideair comes into the vehicle.The tailgate lid should be alwayskept completely closed while the ve‐hicle is in motion. If it is left open orajar, poisonous exhaust gases mayenter the car and serious illness ordeath may result.

nRear cargo area
Occupants should never ride in therear cargo area where no restraintsare available. To avoid injury in theevent of an accident or suddenstops, occupants should always beproperly restrained.
WARNING
•For emergencies, be fully aware ofthe location of the emergency tail‐gate safety release lever in the ve‐hicle and how to open the tailgateif you are accidentally locked in theluggage compartment.
•No one should be allowed to occu‐py the luggage compartment ofthe vehicle at any time. The lug‐gage compartment is a very dan‐gerous location in the event of acrash.
•Use the release lever for emergen‐cies only. Use with extreme cau‐tion, especially while the vehicle isin motion.
