Seat belts help keep occupantsin proper position to obtain maxi‐mum benefit from the air bag. Evenwith air bags, improperly belted andunbelted occupants can be severelyinjured when the air bag inflates. Al‐ways follow the precautions aboutseat belts, air bags and occupantsafety contained in this manual.To reduce the chance of serious orfatal injuries and receive the maxi‐mum safety benefit from your re‐straint system:•Never place a child in any child orbooster seat in the front seat.
•ABC – Always Buckle Children inthe back seat. It is the safest placefor children of any age to ride.
•Front and side air bags can injureoccupants improperly positioned inthe front seats.

•Move your seat as far back aspractical from the front air bags,while still maintaining control ofthe vehicle.
•You and your passengers shouldnever sit or lean unnecessarilyclose to the air bags. Improperlypositioned drivers and passengerscan be severely injured by inflatingair bags.
•Never lean against the door orcenter console – always sit in anupright position.
•Do not allow a passenger to ride inthe front seat when the passeng‐er’s front air bag OFF indicator isilluminated, because the air bagwill not deploy in the event of amoderate or severe frontal crash.

•No objects should be placed overor near the air bag modules on thesteering wheel, instrument paneland the front passenger's panelabove the glove box, because anysuch object could cause harm ifthe vehicle is in a crash severeenough to cause the air bags todeploy.
•Do not tamper with or disconnectSRS wiring or other components ofthe SRS system. Doing so could re‐sult in injury, due to accidental de‐ployment of the air bags or byrendering the SRS inoperative.
•If the SRS air bag warning light re‐mains illuminated while the vehicleis being driven, have the systeminspected by a professional work‐shop. Kia recommends to visit anauthorized Kia dealer/service part‐ner.

•If the passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch is not workingproperly, the air bag warning light() on the instrument panel willilluminate.And, the passenger's front air bagOFF indicator () will not illumi‐nate (The passenger's front airbag ON indicator comes on andgoes off after approximately 60seconds), the SRS Control Modulereactivate the passenger’s frontair bag and the passenger’s frontair bag will inflate in frontal impactcrashes even if the passenger’sfront air bag ON/OFF switch is setto the OFF position.In this case, have the system in‐spected by a professional work‐shop. •Never install a rearward facingchild seat on the front passenger'sseat unless the passenger's frontair bag has been deactivated. Theinfant or child could be severely in‐jured or killed by an air bag deploy‐ment in case of an accident.
•Even though your vehicle is equip‐ped with the passenger's front airbag ON/OFF switch, do not install achild restraint system in the frontpassenger's seat. A child restraintsystem must never be placed inthe front seat. Children who aretoo large for child restraint sys‐tems should always occupy therear seat and use the available lap/shoulder belts. Children are affor‐ded the most safety in the eventof an accident when they are re‐strained by a proper restraint sys‐tem in the rear seat.
•As soon as the child seat is no lon‐ger needed on the front passeng‐er's seat, reactivate the front pas‐senger's air bag.

SRS care
The SRS is virtually maintenance-free
and so there are no parts you can safe‐
ly service by yourself. If the SRS air bag warning light does not illuminate, or
continuously remains on, have the sys‐
tem inspected by a professional work‐ shop.
Kia recommends to visit an authorized
Kia dealer/service partner.
WARNING
•Modification to SRS components orwiring, including the addition ofany kind of badges to the pad cov‐ers or modifications to the bodystructure, can adversely affectSRS performance and lead to pos‐sible injury.
•For cleaning the air bag pad cov‐ers, use only a soft, dry cloth orone which has been moistenedwith plain water. Solvents or clean‐ers could adversely affect the airbag covers and proper deploymentof the system.

•When the charging system warn‐
ing light comes on or the voltage is
low (When the alternator (or bat‐
tery) does not operate normally or
it malfunctions), the steering
wheel may get heavy and become
difficult to control operate abnor‐
mally.
Tilt & telescopic steering (if
equipped)
A tilt and telescopic steering wheel al‐
lows you to adjust the steering wheel before you drive.
You can also raise it to give your legs
more room when you exit and enter
the vehicle.
The steering wheel should be posi‐ tioned so that it is comfortable for you
to drive, while permitting you to see
the instrument panel warning lights and gauges.
WARNING
•Never adjust the angle of thesteering wheel while driving. Youmay lose steering control andcause severe personal injury,death or accidents.
•After adjusting, push the steeringwheel both up and down to be cer‐tain it is locked in position.
To change the steering wheel angle,
pull down the lock release lever (1), ad‐ just the steering wheel to the desired
angle (2) and height (3, if equipped),
then pull up the lock-release lever to lock the steering wheel in place. Be sure
to adjust the steering wheel to the de‐
sired position before driving.

Mode selection
The mode selection knob controls the
direction of the air flow through the ventilation system.
Air can be directed to the floor, dash‐
board outlets, or windshield. Five sym‐
bols are used to represent Face, Bi-Lev‐
el, Floor, Floor-Defrost and Defrost air position.
Face-Level (B, D)
Air flow is directed toward the upper
body and face. Additionally, each outlet can be controlled to direct the air dis‐
charged from the outlet.
Bi-Level (B, D, C, E)
Air flow is directed towards the face
and the floor.
Floor-Level (C, E, A, D)
Most of the air flow is directed to the
floor, with a small amount of the air being directed to the windshield and
side window defrosters.
Floor/Defrost-Level (A, C, D,E)
Most of the air flow is directed to the floor and the windshield with a small
amount directed to the side window
defrosters.
Defrost-Level (A, D)
Most of the air flow is directed to the
windshield with a small amount of air directed to the side window defrosters.
Instrument panel vents

The outlet vents can be opened or
closed separately using the thumb‐ wheel. To close the vent, rotate it
downward to the maximum position.
Also, you can adjust the direction of air
delivery from these vents using the vent control lever as shown.

Manual heating and air
conditioning
The heating and cooling system can be
controlled manually by pushing buttons other than the AUTO button. In this
case, the system works sequentially
according to the order of buttons selec‐ ted. When pressing any button (or turning
any knob) except the AUTO button
while using automatic operation, the
functions not selected will be controlled automatically. 1. Start the engine.
2. Set the mode to the desired posi‐ tion.
