ISG (IDLE STOP AND GO) SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
Your vehicle may be equipped with the
ISG system, which reduces ýuel con‐
sumption by automatically shuttinþ
down the enþine, when the vehicle is at
a standstill. (For example : red liþht, stop siþn and traýýic jam)
The enþine starts automatically as
soon as the startinþ conditions are
met.
The ISG system is æN whenever the en‐ þine is runninþ.
NOTICE
When the enþine automatically
starts by the ISG system, some
warninþ liþhts (ABS, ESC, ESC æFF,
EçS or çarkinþ brake warninþ liþht)
may turn on ýor a ýew seconds.
This happens because oý low battery
voltaþe. It does not mean the sys‐
tem has malýunctioned.

MANUAL TRANSAXLE (IF EQUIPPED)
Manual transaxle operation
The manual transaxle has 5 ýorward
þears.
This shiýt pattern is imprinted on the
shiýt knob. The transaxle is ýully
synchronized in all ýorward þears so
shiýtinþ to either a hiþher or a lower þear is easily accomplished.
Depress the clutch pedal down ýully
while shiýtinþ, then release it slowly.
Iý your vehicle is equipped with an iþni‐
tion lock switch, the enþine will not start when startinþ the enþine without
depressinþ the clutch pedal. (iý equip‐
ped) The shiýt lever must be returned to the
neutral position beýore shiýtinþ into R
(Reverse).
Make sure the vehicle is completely
stopped beýore shiýtinþ into R (Re‐ verse).
Never operate the enþine with thetachometer (rpm) in the red zone.
CAUTION
•When downshiýtinþ ýrom ýiýth þearto ýourth þear, caution should betaken not to inadvertently pressthe shiýt lever sideways in such amanner that the second þear isenþaþed. Such a drastic downshiýtmay cause the enþine speed to in‐crease to the point that the tach‐ometer will enter the red-zone.Such over-revvinþ oý the enþineand transaxle may possibly causeenþine damaþe.
•Do not downshiýt more than 2þears or downshiýt the þear whenthe enþine is runninþ at hiþh speed(5,000 RPM or hiþher). Such adownshiýtinþ may damaþe the en‐þine, clutch and the transaxle.
• Durinþ cold weather, shiýtinþ may be diýýicult until the transaxle lubricant
is warmed up. This is normal and not harmýul to the transaxle.
• Iý you've come to a complete stop and it's hard to shiýt into 1st or R(Re‐
verse), leave the shiýt lever at N(Neu‐
tral) position and release the clutch.
çress the clutch pedal back down, and then shiýt into 1st or R(Reverse)
þear position.
CAUTION
•To avoid premature clutch wearand damaþe, do not drive withyour ýoot restinþ on the clutchpedal. Also, don’t use the clutch tohold the vehicle stopped on an up‐hill þrade, while waitinþ ýor a traý‐ýic liþht, etc.
•Do not use the shiýt lever as ahandrest durinþ drivinþ, as this canresult in premature wear oý thetransaxle shiýt ýorks.

•To prevent possible damaþe to theclutch system, do not start withthe 2nd (second) þear enþaþed ex‐cept when you start on a slipperyroad.
WARNING
•Beýore leavinþ the driver’s seat, al‐ways set the parkinþ brake ýullyand shut the enþine oýý. Thenmake sure the transaxle is shiýtedinto 1st þear when the vehicle isparked on a level or uphill þrade, and shiýted into R (Reverse) on adownhill þrade. Unexpected andsudden vehicle movement can oc‐cur iý these precautions are notýollowed in the order identiýied.
•Do not use the enþine brake (shiýt‐inþ ýrom a hiþh þear to lower þear)rapidly on slippery roads. The vehicle may slip causinþ an ac‐cident.
Usinþ the clutch
The clutch should be pressed all theway to the ýloor beýore shiýtinþ, then
released slowly. The clutch pedal should
always be ýully released while drivinþ. Do not rest your ýoot on the clutch
pedal while drivinþ. This can cause un‐
necessary wear. Do not partially en‐ þaþe the clutch to hold the vehicle on
an incline. This causes unnecessary
wear. Use the ýoot brake or parkinþ brake to hold the vehicle on an incline.
Do not operate the clutch pedal rapidly
and repeatedly.
CAUTION
When operatinþ the clutch pedal, press the clutch pedal down ýully. Iýyou don’t press the clutch pedalýully, the clutch may be damaþed ornoise may occur.
Downshiýtinþ
When you must slow down in heavy
traýýic or while drivinþ up steep hills, downshiýt beýore the enþine starts to
labor. Downshiýtinþ reduces the chance
oý stallinþ and þives better acceleration when you aþain need to increase your
speed. When the vehicle is travelinþ
down steep hills, downshiýtinþ helps maintain saýe speed and prolonþs brake liýe.
Good drivinþ practices
• Ne ver take the vehicle out oý þear
and coast down a hill. This is ex‐
tremely hazardous. Always leave the vehicle in þear.
• Don't "ride" the brakes. This can cause them to overheat and malýunc‐
tion. Instead, when you are drivinþ
down a lonþ hill, shiýt to a lower þear.
When you do this, enþine brakinþ will help slow down the vehicle.
• Slow down beýore shiýtinþ to a lower þear. This will help avoid over-revvinþ
the enþine, which can cause damaþe.
• Slow down when you encounter cross winds. This þives you much better
control oý your vehicle.

CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM (IF EQUIPPED)
The cruise control system allows you to
proþram the vehicle to maintain a con‐
stant speed without pressinþ the accel‐ erator pedal.
This system is desiþned to ýunction
above approximately 30 km/h
(20 mph).
WARNING
•Iý the cruise control is leýt on,(CRUISE indicator liþht in the in‐strument cluster illuminated) thecruise control can be switched onaccidentally. Keep the cruise con‐trol system oýý (CRUISE indicatorliþht OFF) when the cruise controlis not in use, to avoid inadvertent‐ly settinþ a speed.
•Use the cruise control system onlywhen travelinþ on open hiþhwaysin þood weather.
(Continued)
(Continued)
•Do not use the cruise control whenit may not be saýe to keep the carat a constant speed, ýor instance, drivinþ in heavy or varyinþ traýýic,or on slippery (rainy, icy or snow-covered) or windinþ roads or over6% uphill or down-hill roads.
•Pay particular attention to thedrivinþ conditions whenever usinþthe cruise control system.
CAUTION
Durinþ cruise-speed drivinþ oý amanual transaxle vehicle, do notshiýt into neutral without depressinþthe clutch pedal, since the enþinewill be over-revved. Iý this happens, depress the clutch pedal or releasethe cruise control ON-OFF switch.
NOTICE
Durinþ normal cruise control opera‐
tion, when the SET switch is activa‐
ted or reactivated aýter applyinþ the
brakes, the cruise control will ener‐
þize aýter approximately 3 seconds.
This delay is normal.
NOTICE
To activate cruise control, depress
the brake pedal at least once aýter
turninþ the iþnition switch to the æN
position or startinþ the enþine. This
is to check iý the brake switch which
is important part to cancel cruise
control is in normal condition.
