Passenger’s front air bag
ON indicator (if equipped)
❈ The actual indicator in the vehicle may differ
from the illustration.
The passenger's front airbag ON indicator illuminates
for approximately 4 seconds
after the ignition switch is
turned to the ON position.
The passenger's front air bag ON indi-cator also comes on when the pas-
senger's front air bag ON/OFF switchis set to the ON position and goes off
after approximately 60 seconds.
Passenger’s front air bag OFF indicator (if equipped)

CAUTION
If the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch malfunctions,the passenger’s front air bagOFF indicator will not illuminate (The passenger's front air bagON indicator comes on and goesoff after approximately 60 sec- onds) and the passenger’s frontair bag will inflate in a frontalimpact even if the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch isset to the OFF position.
In this case, have the passen-ger’s front air bag ON/OFFswitch and the SRS air bag sys- tem inspected by a professionalworkshop.

Driver's and passenger's front
air bag
Your vehicle is equipped with a
Supplemental Restraint (Air Bag)System and lap/shoulder belts at both
the driver and passenger seating posi-
tions. The indications of the system's pres-
ence are the letters “AIRBAG” intagli-
ated on the air bag pad cover in the
steering wheel and the passenger's
side front panel pad above the glove
box. The SRS consists of air bags
installed under the pad covers in the
centre of the steering wheel and the
passenger's side front panel above
the glove box.
The purpose of the SRS is to provide
the vehicle's driver and/or the frontpassenger with additional protection
than that offered by the seat belt sys-tem alone in case of a frontal impact
of sufficient severity.

Always use seat belts and child
restraints – every trip, every
time, everyone! Air bags inflate
with considerable force and in
the blink of an eye. Seat belts
help keep occupants in proper
position to obtain maximum
benefit from the air bag. Even
with air bags, improperly andunbelted occupants can be
severely injured when the air
bag inflates. Always follow the
precautions about seat belts, air
bags and occupant safety con-
tained in this manual.
To reduce the chance of serious or fatal injuries and receive the
maximum safety benefit from
your restraint system:
Never place a child in any child or booster seat in the
front seat.

To deactivate or reactivate the passen-
ger’s front air bag: To deactivate the passenger’s front air
bag, insert the mechanical key into
the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF
switch and turn it to the OFF position.
The passenger’s front air bag OFF
indicator ( ) will illuminate and stay
on until the passenger’s front air bag
is reactivated.
To reactivate the passenger’s front
air bag, insert the mechanical key
into the passenger’s front air bag
ON/OFF switch and turn it to the ON
position. The passenger’s front airbag OFF indicator will go out and the
passenger’s front air bag ON indica-
tor ( ) will illuminate for approxi-
mately 60 seconds.

NOTICE
 When the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch is set to the
ON position, the passenger’s front
air bag is activated and child or
infant seat should not be installed
on the front passenger seat.
 When the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch is set to the
OFF position, the passenger’s
front air bag is deactivated.

device. Always check the status

If the SRS air bag warning light blinks or does not illuminatewhen the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, or ifit illuminates whilst the vehicleis being driven, have the sys-tem inspected by a profession- al workshop. If the passenger’s front air bag ON/OFF switch is not workingproperly, the air bag warninglight ( )on the instrumentpanel will illuminate.
And, the passenger's front airbag OFF indicator ( ) will not illuminate (The passenger'sfront air bag ON indicatorcomes on and goes off after approximately 60 seconds),the SRS Control Module reac-tivates the passenger’s front air bag and the passenger’sfront air bag will inflate infrontal impact crashes even if the passenger’s front air bagON/OFF switch is set to theOFF position.

WARNING
The driver is responsible for the proper position of the pas-
senger’s front air bag ON/OFF
switch.
Deactivate the passenger's front air bag only when the
ignition switch is switched off,
or the malfunction may occur
in the SRS Control Module.
And there may be a danger
that the driver's and/or front
passenger’s and/or side and
curtain air bag may fail to trig-
ger, or not trigger correctlyduring a collision.
Never install a rearward facing child seat on the front passen-
ger's seat unless the passen-
ger's front air bag has been
deactivated. The infant or child
could be severely injured or
killed by an air bag deploy-ment in case of an accident.

The purpose of the air bag is to pro-
vide the vehicle's driver and/or thefront passenger with additional pro-
tection than that offered by the seat
belt alone. The side air bags are designed to
deploy only during certain side-
impact collisions, depending on the
crash severity, angle, speed and
point of impact. The side air bags are
not designed to deploy in all side
impact situations.
WARNING
Do not allow the passengers to lean their heads or bodies onto
doors, put their arms on the
doors, stretch their arms out of
the window, or place objects
between the doors and passen-
gers when they are seated onseats equipped with side and/or
curtain air bags.
WARNING
The side air bag is supplemen- tal to the driver's and the pas-
senger's seat belt systems and
is not a substitute for them.
Therefore your seat belts must
be worn at all times whilst the
vehicle is in motion. The air
bags deploy only in certain side
impact conditions severeenough to cause significant
injury to the vehicle occupants.
For best protection from the side air bag system and to
avoid being injured by the
deploying side air bag, both
front seat occupants should sitin an upright position with the
seat belt properly fastened. Thedriver's hands should beplaced on the steering wheel at
the 9:00 and 3:00 positions. The
passenger's arms and handsshould be placed on their laps.

Do not use any accessory seatcovers.
Use of seat covers could reduce or prevent the effec- tiveness of the system.
To prevent unexpected deploy- ment of the side air bag that
may result in personal injury,
avoid impact to the sideimpact sensor when the igni-
tion key is on.
If the seat or seat cover is dam- aged, have the system serv-
iced by a professional work-shop. Kia recommends to visit an
authorised Kia dealer/service
partner.
Never place or insert any object into any small opening
near side airbag labels
attached to the vehicle seats.
When the air bag deploys, the
object may affect the deploy-
ment and result in unexpected
accident or bodily harm.

Side and curtain air bags (if equipped)Side and/or curtain air bags are designed to inflate when an impact is
detected by side collision sensorsdepending on the strength, speed orangles of impact resulting from aside impact collision.
Although the front air bags (driver’s
and front passenger’s air bags) aredesigned to inflate only in frontal col-
lisions, they also may inflate in othertypes of collisions if the front impactsensors detect a sufficient impact.
Side air bags (side and/or curtain airbags) are designed to inflate only in
side impact collisions, but they mayinflate in other collisions if the sideimpact sensors detect a sufficientimpact.
If the vehicle chassis is impacted by
bumps or objects on unimproved
roads or sidewalks, air bags may
deploy. Drive carefully on unimproved
roads or on surfaces not designed for
vehicle traffic to prevent unintended
air bag deployment.
Air bag non-inflation conditions
In certain low-speed collisions the
air bags may not deploy. The air
bags are designed not to deploy in
such cases because they may not
provide benefits beyond the pro-tection of the seat belts in such col-
lisions.
