Driving your vehicle
Remember, your vehicle does notrequire extended warm-up. After
the engine has started, allow the
engine to run for 10 to 20 seconds
prior to placing the vehicle in gear.
In very cold weather, however, give
your engine a slightly longer warm-
up period.
Do not "lug" or "over-rev" the engine. Lugging is driving too slow-ly in too high a gear resulting
engine bucking. If this happens,
shift to a lower gear. Over-revving
is racing the engine beyond its safe
limit. This can be avoided by shift-
ing at the recommended speeds.
Use your air conditioning sparingly. The air conditioning system is
operated by engine power so your
fuel economy is reduced when youuse it.
Open windows at high speeds can reduce fuel economy.
Fuel economy is less in crosswinds and headwinds. To help offset
some of this loss, slow down when
driving in these conditions. Keeping a vehicle in good operating
condition is important both for econ-
omy and safety. Therefore, have the
system serviced by a professional
workshop. Kia recommends to visit an autho-
rised Kia dealer/service partner.
WARNING
- Engine off
during motion
Never turn the engine off to
coast down hills or anytime the
vehicle is in motion. The power
steering and power brakes will
not function properly without
the engine running. Instead,
keep the engine on and down-
shift to an appropriate gear for
engine braking effect. In addi-
tion, turning off the ignition
whilst driving could engage the
steering wheel lock (ifequipped) resulting in loss of
vehicle steering which could
cause serious injury or death.

Driving your vehicle
When you are ready to leave after
parking on a hill
1.With the manual transaxle inNeutral or automatic transaxle /
dual clutch transmission in P
(Park), apply your brakes and hold
the brake pedal down whilst you:
and
2.Slowly remove your foot from the brake pedal.
3.Drive slowly until the trailer is clear of the chocks.
4.Stop and have someone pick up and store the chocks. Maintenance when trailer tow- ing
Your vehicle will need service more
often when you regularly pull a trail-
er. Important items to pay particularattention to include engine oil,
transaxle fluid, axle lubricant and
cooling system fluid. Brake condition
is another important item to frequent-
ly check. Each item is covered in this
manual, and the Index will help you
find them quickly. If you’re trailering, it
is a good idea to review these sec-
tions before you start your trip.
Do not forget to also maintain your
trailer and hitch. Follow the mainte-nance schedule that accompanied
your trailer and check it periodically.
Preferably, conduct the check at the
start of each day’s driving. Most
importantly, all hitch nuts and boltsshould be tight.CAUTION
Due to higher load during
trailer usage, overheatingmight occur in hot days or during uphill driving. If thecoolant gauge indicates over-heating, switch off the air con- ditioner and stop the vehiclein a safe area to cool down theengine.
When towing check transaxle fluid more frequently.
If your vehicle is not equipped with an air conditioner, youshould install a condenser fanto improve engine perform-ance when towing a trailer.

IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
If your temperature gauge indicates
overheating, you will experience a
loss of power, or hear loud pinging or
knocking, the engine is probably too
hot. If this happens, you should:
1.Pull off the road and stop as soon as it is safe to do so.
2.Place the shift lever in P (automat- ic transaxle / dual clutch transmis-
sion) or neutral (manual transaxle)
and set the parking brake. If the air
conditioning is on, turn it off.
3.If engine coolant is running out under the vehicle or steam is com-ing out from the bonnet, stop the
engine. Do not open the bonnet until
the coolant has stopped running or
the steaming has stopped. If there is
no visible loss of engine coolant and
no steam, leave the engine running
and check to be sure the engine
cooling fan is operating. If the fan is
not running, turn the engine off.
4.Check to see if the water pump drive belt is missing. If it is not miss-
ing, check to see that it is tight. If the drive belt seems to be satis-
factory, check for coolant leaking
from the radiator, hoses or under
the vehicle. (If the air conditioning
had been in use, it is normal for
cold water to be draining from it
when you stop).
5.If the water pump drive belt is bro- ken or engine coolant is leakingout, stop the engine immediately
and call a professional workshop.Kia recommends to call an autho-
rised Kia dealer/service partner. 6.If you cannot find the cause of the
overheating, wait until the engine
temperature has returned to nor-
mal. Then, if coolant has been lost, carefully add coolant to the reser-
voir to bring the fluid level in the
reservoir up to the halfway mark.
7.Proceed with caution, keeping alert for further signs of overheat-
ing. If overheating happens again,
call a professional workshop. Kia
recommends to call an authorised
Kia dealer/service partner.
CAUTION
Serious loss of coolant indi-
cates there is a leak in the cool-ing system. In this case, have the system checked by a pro-fessional workshop. Kia recom-mends to visit an authorised Kia dealer/service partner.
When the engine overheats from low engine coolant, sud-denly adding engine coolantmay cause cracks in the engine. To prevent damage, add engine coolant slowly insmall quantities.
WARNING
Whilst the engine is running,
keep hair, hands and clothing
away from moving parts suchas the fan and drive belts to pre-
vent injury.
WARNING
Do not remove the radiator cap
when the engine is hot. This can
allow coolant to blow out of theopening and cause serious
burns.

What to do in an emergency
Then the TPMS malfunction indicator
and the Low Tyre Pressure telltale
may turn on and illuminate after
restarting and about 20 minutes of
continuous driving before you have
the low pressure tyre repaired and
replaced on the vehicle.
CAUTION
In winter or cold weather, thelow tyre pressure telltale maybe illuminated if the tyre pres-sure was adjusted to the rec-ommended tyre inflation pres- sure in warm weather. It doesnot mean your TPMS is mal-functioning because thedecreased temperature leads to a proportional lowering oftyre pressure.
(Continued)
(Continued) When you drive your vehicle from a warm area to a cold areaor from a cold area to a warm area, or the outside tempera-ture is greatly higher or lower, you should check the tyre infla-tion pressure and adjust the tyres to the recommended tyreinflation pressure.
When filling tyres with more air, conditions to turn off thelow tyre pressure telltale may not be met. This is because atyre inflator has a margin oferror in performance. The low tyre pressure telltale will beturned off if the tyre pressureis above the recommended tyre inflation pressure.WARNING - Low pressure
damage
Significantly low tyre pressure
makes the vehicle unstable and
can contribute to loss of vehicle
control and increased brakingdistances.
Continued driving on low pres- sure tyres can cause the tyres
to overheat and fail.

Important - use of compact spare
tyre (if equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with a com-
pact spare tyre. This compact spare
tyre takes up less space than a reg-
ular-size tyre. This tyre is smaller
than a conventional tyre and is
designed for temporary use only.
The compact spare should be inflat-
ed to 420 kPa (60 psi).
✽✽NOTICE
Check the inflation pressure after
installing the spare tyre. Adjust it to
the specified pressure, as necessary.
When using a compact spare tyre,
observe the following precautions:
Under no circumstances should you exceed 80 km/h (50 mph); a higher speed could damage the
tyre.
Ensure that you drive slowly enough for the road conditions to avoid all
hazards. Any road hazard, such as a
pothole or debris, could seriously
damage the compact spare.
Any continuous road use of this tyre could result in tyre failure, loss
of vehicle control, and possible
personal injury.
Do not exceed the vehicle’s maxi- mum load rating or the load-carry-
ing capacity shown on the sidewall
of the compact spare tyre.
Avoid driving over obstacles. The compact spare tyre diameter issmaller than the diameter of a con-
ventional tyre and reduces the
ground clearance approximately25 mm (1 inch), which could result
in damage to the vehicle.
CAUTION
You should drive carefully
when the compact spare is inuse. The compact spareshould be replaced by theproper conventional tyre and rim at the first opportunity.
The operation of this vehicle is not permitted with morethan one compact spare tyrein use at the same time.
WARNING
The compact spare tyre is for
emergency use only. Do not
operate your vehicle on this
compact spare at speeds over
80 km/h (50 mph). The originaltyre should be repaired or
replaced as soon as is possible
to avoid failure of the spare
possibly leading to personal
injury or death.
