Service data recorders in your vehicle arecapable of collecting and storingdiagnostic information about your vehicle.This potentially includes information aboutthe performance or status of varioussystems and modules in the vehicle, suchas engine, throttle, steering or brakesystems. In order to properly diagnose andservice your vehicle, Ford Motor Company(Ford of Canada in Canada), and serviceand repair facilities may access or shareamong them vehicle diagnosticinformation received through a directconnection to your vehicle whendiagnosing or servicing your vehicle.Additionally, Ford Motor Company (Fordof Canada, in Canada) may, wherepermitted by law, use vehicle diagnosticinformation for vehicle improvement orwith other information we may have aboutyou, (for example, your contactinformation), to offer you products orservices that may interest you. Pregnant women should always wear theirseatbelt. Position the lap belt portion of acombination lap and shoulder belt lowacross the hips below the belly and wornas tight as comfort allows. Position theshoulder belt to cross the middle of theshoulder and the center of the chest.
Seatbelt Locking Modes
WARNING
If your vehicle is involved in a crash,have the seatbelts and associatedcomponents inspected as soon aspossible. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury or death.
All safety restraints in the vehicle arecombination lap and shoulder belts. Thedriver seatbelt has the vehicle sensitivelocking mode. The front outboardpassenger and rear seatbelts have boththe vehicle sensitive locking mode and theautomatic locking mode.
Vehicle Sensitive Mode
This is the normal retractor mode, whichallows free shoulder belt lengthadjustment to your movements andlocking in response to vehicle movement.For example, if the driver brakes suddenlyor turns a corner sharply, or the vehiclereceives an impact of about 5 mph(8 km/h) or more, the combinationseatbelts lock to help reduce forwardmovement of the driver and passengers.
In addition, the retractor is designed to lockif you pull the webbing out too quickly. Ifthe seatbelt retractor locks, slowly lowerthe height adjuster to allow the seatbeltto retract. If the retractor does not unlock,pull the seatbelt out slowly then feed a
small length of webbing back toward thestowed position. For rear seatbelts, reclinethe rear seat backrest or push the seatbackrest cushion away from the seatbelt.Feed a small length of webbing backtoward the stowed position.
Automatic Locking Mode
In this mode, the shoulder beltautomatically pre-locks. The belt retractsto remove any slack in the shoulder belt.The automatic locking mode is notavailable on the driver seatbelt.
When to Use the Automatic LockingMode
Use this mode any time a child safety seat,except a booster, is installed in passengerfront or rear seating positions. Properlyrestrain children 12 years old and under ina rear seating position whenever possible.See Child Safety (page 18).

Adaptive Cruise Control (If Equipped)
The speed control systemindicator light changes color toindicate what mode the systemis in: See Using Adaptive Cruise Control(page 201).
On (white light): Lights when you turn theadaptive cruise control system on. Turnsoff when you turn the speed controlsystem off.
Engaged (green light): Lights when theadaptive cruise control system engages.Turns off when the speed control systemdisengages.
Anti-Lock Braking System
If it lights when you are driving,this indicates a malfunction. Youwill continue to have the normalbraking system (without Anti-lock brakingsystem) unless the brake system warninglamp also lights. Have an authorized dealercheck the system.
Battery
If it lights while driving, itindicates a malfunction. Switchoff all unnecessary electricalequipment and have an authorized dealercheck the system immediately.
Blind Spot Monitor (If Equipped)
Lights when you switch thisfeature off or with a blind-spotmessage. See Blind SpotInformation System (page 214). SeeInformation Messages (page 106).
Brake System
WARNING
Driving your vehicle with the warninglamp on is dangerous. A significantdecrease in braking performancemay occur. It may take you longer to stopyour vehicle. Have your vehicle checked assoon as possible. Driving extendeddistances with the parking brake engagedcan cause brake failure and the risk ofpersonal injury.
Lights when you engage theparking brake with the ignitionon.
If it lights when you are driving, check thatthe parking brake is not on. If the parkingbrake is not on, this Brake System lampindicates low brake fluid level or a brakesystem malfunction. Have an authorizeddealer check the system immediately.
Cruise Control
Lights when you switch on cruisecontrol.
Direction Indicator
Lights when you switch on theleft or right indicator or thehazard flasher. If the indicatorsstay on or flash faster, check for aburned-out bulb. See Changing a Bulb(page 270).
Door Ajar
Lights when the ignition is on andany door is not completelyclosed.

Efficiency Leaves
Efficiency leaves indicate short term drivingefficiency measured over the last fewminutes. The more leaves and vines thatappear on the display, the better your fueleconomy. Leaves and vines willoccasionally appear and disappear toindicate a change in your driving efficiency.
Fuel History
From left to right this view includes aninstantaneous fuel economy gauge,historical fuel economy data and averagefuel economy. The historical datarepresents an average over time intervalsof either 1, 2 or 6 minutes, with the leftmostinterval being the most recent. Shown atthe bottom of the view is the total timeduration for the 5 intervals. You can selecttotal duration in the options menu.Intervals shown in grey color are from theprevious drive. The blue horizontal linerepresents the average fuel economy valueshown to the right.
Note:Hold OK to reset fuel history andaverage fuel economy.
Coach
This view provides a comparison of yourrecent acceleration, braking and cruisingbehavior, then recommends the mostefficient use of energy under presentconditions. The horizontal bars fill from leftto right with best behavior and appear bluewhen at least half full. When the bars areless than half full, the color is amber,suggesting that you need a change in yourdriving behavior to achieve better energyefficiency.
Note:Fuel Economy will be impacted byyour use of brakes, accelerator andaccessories, as well as environmentalconditions such as hills and weather.
Note:Fuel economy is not always ameasure of appropriate driving behavior. Forexample, when driving uphill andmaintaining an appropriate speed, yourinstant fuel economy may not be good(losing leaves) but the Coach may show ablue bar for Acceleration and Cruising.

4.Press and hold the push button ignitionswitch, or press it three times withintwo seconds.
Guarding Against Exhaust Fumes
WARNING
Exhaust leaks may result in entry ofharmful and potentially lethal fumesinto the passenger compartment. Ifyou smell exhaust fumes inside yourvehicle, have your vehicle inspectedimmediately. Do not drive if you smellexhaust fumes.
Important Ventilating Information
If you stop your vehicle and then leave theengine idling for long periods, werecommend that you do one of thefollowing:
•Open the windows at least 1 in (3 cm).
•Set your climate control to outside air.
ENGINE BLOCK HEATER (If
Equipped)
WARNINGS
Failure to follow engine block heaterinstructions could result in propertydamage or serious personal injury.
Do not use your heater withungrounded electrical systems ortwo-pronged adapters. There is a riskof electrical shock.
Note:The heater is most effective whenoutdoor temperatures are below 0°F(-18°C).
The heater acts as a starting aid bywarming the engine coolant. This allowsthe climate control system to respondquickly. The equipment includes a heaterelement (installed in the engine block) anda wire harness. You can connect thesystem to a grounded 120-volt ACelectrical source.
We recommend that you do the followingfor a safe and correct operation:
•Use a 16-gauge outdoor extension cordthat is product certified byUnderwriter’s Laboratory (UL) orCanadian Standards Association(CSA). This extension cord must besuitable for use outdoors, in coldtemperatures, and be clearly markedSuitable for Use with OutdoorAppliances. Do not use an indoorextension cord outdoors. This couldresult in an electric shock or become afire hazard.
•Use as short an extension cord aspossible.
•Do not use multiple extension cords.
•Make sure that when in operation, theextension cord plug and heater cordplug connections are free and clear ofwater. This could cause an electricshock or fire.
•Make sure your vehicle is parked in aclean area, clear of combustibles.
•Make sure the heater, heater cord andextension cord are firmly connected.
•Check for heat anywhere in theelectrical hookup once the system hasbeen operating for approximately 30minutes.
•Make sure the heater system ischecked for proper operation beforewinter.

Grade assist:
•Provides additional grade braking witha combination of engine motoring andhigh-voltage battery charging to helpmaintain vehicle speed whendescending a grade.
•As your vehicle determines the amountof engine motoring and high-voltagebattery charging, you may notice theengine speed increasing anddecreasing to help maintain yourvehicle speed when descending agrade.
•The grade assist lamp in the instrumentcluster is illuminated.
Low (L)
•Provides maximum engine braking.
•The transmission may be shifted intolow (L) at any vehicle speed.
•Is not intended for use under extendedor normal driving conditions and resultsin lower fuel economy.
Brake-Shift Interlock Override
WARNINGS
When doing this procedure, you needto take the transmission out of park(P) which means your vehicle canroll freely. To avoid unwanted vehiclemovement, always fully apply the parkingbrake prior to doing this procedure. Usewheels chocks if appropriate.
If the parking brake is fully released,but the brake warning lamp remainsilluminated, the brakes may not beworking properly. Have your vehiclechecked as soon as possible.
Note:Do not drive your vehicle until youverify that the brake lamps are working.
Note:See your authorized dealer as soonas possible if this procedure is used.
Note:For some markets this feature isdisabled.
Note:This feature only functions if your12-volt battery has power. If vehicle batteryvoltage is not sufficient, an external 12-voltpower source (for example, jumper cables,battery charger or jump pack) may berequired to function the interlock overrideswitch.
Use the brake-shift interlock override tomove your transmission from the parkposition in the event of an electricalmalfunction. If your vehicle has a deadbattery, an external power source isrequired.
1. Apply the parking brake and turn yourignition off before performing thisprocedure.
2. Locate your brake-shift interlockaccess slot. The slot is located in yourcenter console storage bin. The accessslot does not have a label.
Note:Make sure that you correctly identifythe access hole as not to damage the mediahub.
3. Using a tool, press and hold the brakeshift interlock switch. The transmissionselector indicator flashes for threeseconds when your vehicle is inoverride mode.
