Max A/C (If Equipped)
Press for maximum cooling. The left-handand right-hand settings set to LO,recirculated air flows through theinstrument panel vents, air conditioningturns on and the fan adjusts to the highestspeed.
Heated Windshield (If Equipped)
Press to clear the heated windshield of thinice and fog.
Recirculated Air
Press to switch between outside air andrecirculated air. The air currently in thepassenger compartment recirculates. Thismay reduce the time needed to cool theinterior (when used with A/C) and reduceunwanted odors from entering your vehicle.
Note:Recirculated air may turn off (orprevent you from switching on) in all air flowmodes except MAX A/C to reduce the riskof fogging. Recirculation may also turn onand off in various air distribution controlcombinations during hot weather in orderto improve cooling efficiency.
Power
Press to switch the system on and off.When the system is off, it prevents outsideair from entering the vehicle.
Right-hand Temperature Control
Adjusts the temperature setting on theright-hand side.
Climate Controlled Seats
Press cycle through the various climatecontrolled seat settings and off. SeeClimate Controlled Seats (page 135).
Heated Seats
Press to cycle through the various heatsettings and off. See Heated Seats (page135).
Fan Speed Control
Adjust the volume of air circulated in thevehicle.
Left-hand Temperature Control
Adjusts the temperature setting on theleft-hand side.
Note:This control also adjusts theright-hand side temperature when youswitch off dual zone mode.
Heated Rear Window
Press to switch the heated rear window onand off. See Heated Windows andMirrors (page 126).
Defrost
Press to distribute air through thewindshield air vents and de-mister. Airdistribution to the instrument panel andfootwell vents turns off. You can also usethis setting to defog and clear thewindshield of a thin covering of ice.
Max Defrost
Press to switch on defrost. The left-handand right-hand settings set to HI, air flowsthrough the windshield vents, and the fanadjusts to the highest speed. You can alsouse this setting to defog and clear thewindshield of a thin covering of ice. Theheated rear window also turns on whenyou select maximum defrost.
Note:To prevent window fogging, youcannot select recirculated air whenmaximum defrost is on.

Climate Control

Driver temperature control:Turn to increase or decrease theair temperature for the driverside of the vehicle. This controlalso adjusts the passenger sidetemperature when not in dualzone mode.

Recirculated air: Press thebutton to switch betweenoutside air and recirculated air.When you select recirculated air,the air currently in the passengercompartment recirculates. Thismay reduce the time needed tocool the interior (when used withA/C) and may reduce unwantedodors from entering your vehicle.

Fan speed indicator:Illuminates to indicate fanspeed. When the system iscontrolling the fanautomatically, all of the fanspeed indicators turn off.

Air distribution control: Pressthese buttons to turn airflowfrom the windshield, instrumentpanel, or footwell vents on or off.The system can distribute airthrough any combination ofthese vents.

Fan speed control +: Press toincrease the volume of aircirculated in your vehicle.

Passenger temperaturecontrol: Turn to increase ordecrease the air temperature onthe passenger side of the vehicle.This turns on dual zone mode.

MAX Defrost: Press the buttonto maximize defrosting. Outsideair flows through the windshieldvents, and the fan automaticallyadjusts to the highest speed. Youcan use this setting to defog orclear a thin covering of ice fromthe windshield. The heated rearwindow also automatically turnson when you select MAX Defrost.

Note: To prevent windowfogging, you cannot selectrecirculated air when MAXDefrost is on.
Power: Press the button to turnthe system on and off. Switchingoff the climate control systemprevents outside air fromentering the vehicle.

Note: In certain conditions (suchas when using Max Defrost), theair conditioning compressor maycontinue to operate even afteryou switch off the airconditioning with the A/Cbutton.
HINTS ON CONTROLLING THE
INTERIOR CLIMATE
General Hints
Note:Prolonged use of recirculated air maycause the windows to fog up.
Note:You may feel a small amount of airfrom the footwell air vents regardless of theair distribution setting.
Note:To reduce humidity build-up insideyour vehicle, do not drive with the systemswitched off or with recirculated air alwaysswitched on.
Note:Do not place objects under the frontseats as this may interfere with the airflowto the rear seats.
Note:Remove any snow, ice or leaves fromthe air intake area at the base of thewindshield.
Note:To improve the time to reach acomfortable temperature in hot weather,drive with the windows open until you feelcold air through the air vents.
Automatic Climate Control
Note:Adjusting the settings when yourvehicle interior is extremely hot or cold isnot necessary.
Note:The system adjusts to heat or coolthe interior to the temperature you selectas quickly as possible.
Note:For the system to function efficiently,the instrument panel and side air ventsshould be fully open.
Note:If you select AUTO during coldoutside temperatures, the system directsair flow to the windshield and side windowvents. In addition, the fan may run at aslower speed until the engine warms up.

HYBRID VEHICLE OPERATION
This hybrid vehicle combines electric andgasoline propulsion to providebreakthrough performance and improvedefficiency.
Familiarizing yourself with these uniquecharacteristics will provide an optimaldriving experience from your new vehicle.
Note:You may notice higher engine speedsupon start-up. This temporary condition isnormal and necessary to heat up the cabinand minimize emissions.
Starting:
When you start your vehicle, agreen ready indicator light willappear in the lower right portionof the instrument cluster and a ready todrive message will appear in the middle ofthe left cluster screen, letting you knowthat your vehicle is ready for driving.
The engine may not start because thisvehicle is equipped with silent key start.This fuel saving feature allows your vehicleto be ready–to–drive without requiring thegas engine to be running. This indicator willremain on while your vehicle is on, whetherthe engine is running or not to indicate yourvehicle is capable of movement (using itselectric motor, engine, or both). Typically,the engine will not start unless the vehicleis cold, a climate control change isrequested, or the accelerator is pressed.
Driving:
The gas engine automatically starts andstops to provide power when needed andto save fuel when not needed. Whilecoasting at low speeds, coming to a stop,or standing, the gas engine normally shutsdown and your vehicle operates inelectric-only mode.
Conditions that may cause the engine tostart up or remain running include:
•Considerable vehicle acceleration.
•Vehicle speed above 85 mph(137 km/h). However, the maximumspeed for electric-only operation maybe lower while driving in hottemperatures or on hilly terrain.
•Ascending a hill.
•Charge level of high voltage battery islow.
•Very high or low outside temperature(to provide system cooling or heating).
•Engine not warm enough to providepassenger requested cabintemperature.
Stopping:
The gas engine may shut off to conservefuel as you come to a stop. Restarting yourvehicle is not required. Simply step on theaccelerator when you are ready to drive.
Transmission Operation:
Due to the technologically advanced,electronically-controlled continuouslyvariable transaxle, you will not feel shiftchanges like those of a non-hybrid vehicle.
Note:Since engine speed is controlled bythe transmission, it may seem elevated attimes. This is normal hybrid operation andhelps deliver fuel efficiency andperformance.
Neutral:
We recommend that you do not idle thevehicle in neutral (N) for an extendedperiod of time because this will dischargeyour high voltage battery, shut off your airconditioning and heating, and decreasefuel economy. The engine will not start orstop, and cannot provide power to thehybrid system in neutral (N).
