Replacing a wheel
Undo the wheel nuts with wrench 1
fig. 255.
Position the jack 2 fig. 256 horizontally
so that its head 3 fig. 256 coincides
with the hole under the chassis nearest
to the wheel concerned.
Start raising the jack to rest the base
correctly (it should be slightly under the
vehicle and aligned with the jack head).
Undo the nuts and remove the tyre.
Position the spare tyre in the centre of
the hub.
Tighten the nuts and lower the jack.
When the tyre is on the ground, tighten
the screws hard and check their
tightness as soon as possible.IMPORTANT If you are using
tamper-proof screws, position them as
close as possible to the valve (it could
be impossible to fit the wheel plate).

167)Activate hazard warning lights Park
the vehicle far from traffic on level, resistant
and not slippery ground. Pull up the
handbrake and engage a gear. Get all the
occupants out of the car and far from
traffic.
168)It is extremely dangerous to attempt
to change a wheel on the side of the
vehicle next to the driving lane: make sure
that the vehicle is at a sufficient distance
from the road, to avoid being run over.
169)Use your hazard lights, warning
triangle, etc to show that your vehicle is
stationary. Passengers should get out of
the vehicle, particularly if it is heavily
loaded, and wait for the wheel to be
changed away from the traffic.170)The spare tyre is not the same size as
the other four. Never fit more than one
spare tyre on the same vehicle. The
standard wheel is larger than the spare
wheel, so the vehicle will be lower. Replace
the spare tyre as soon as possible with a
tyre identical to the original. While in use,
which has to be temporary, your speed
should not exceed that indicated on the
wheel's label. If you have to use snow
chains, fit the spare tyre on the rear axle
and check the tyre pressures. Fitting this
tyre can alter the vehicle's normal
behaviour. Avoid accelerating or braking
abruptly and lower your speed on curves.
171)Never leave tools haphazardly in the
vehicle: if you brake suddenly, they could
scatter around the floorboards, causing a
hazard to the occupants. After use, be sure
to fasten the tools in the tool bag, then
place it correctly in its position: risk of
injuries. The jack must only be used for
changing a wheel. It should never be used
to raise the vehicle to perform a repair
underneath.
172)There should be no objects at the
driver's feet: in case of sharp braking, they
could slide under the pedals, preventing
their correct use.

The steering wheel should not be
locked; the starter device has to be in
position "M" (ignition) to allow signalling
("Stop" lights, emergency lights). At
night the outside vehicle lighting must
remain on.
Detach the trailer where there is one.
Moreover, you have to comply with the
towing conditions, defined by the
regulations in force in the country you
are in.
Contact a Fiat Dealership.
Never use the gear or drive shafts to
tow the vehicle.
Use the rings exclusively for towing; in
no case must they be used to lift the
vehicle up, directly or indirectly.
In the rear part use exclusively:
for vehicles without a tow hook, tow
point 2 fig. 262;
for vehicles with a tow hook, tow
point 3 fig. 263.
To mount the towing knob 3, please
see the installation instructions for the

Use a screwdriver to release the

Fully tighten the tow ring 4 fig. 264: (first
by hand, then use the tyre wrench).
WARNING
183)Before towing, turn the starter device
to M position and then to S without
extracting it. The steering column will
automatically lock when the key is removed
and the wheels cannot be steered.
184)Before tightening the tow ring, clean
the relative threaded hole thoroughly. Make
sure that the ring is fully fastened in the
housing before towing the vehicle. Do not
start the engine whilst the vehicle is being
towed.

SAFETY INFORMATION
The tyres are the vehicle's only contact
with the road surface, so they need to
be kept in good condition.
Local laws concerning rules of the road
must be respected.

MAINTENANCE
The tyres must always be in good
condition, the treads have to be thick
enough; the tyres approved by Fiat
have wear warnings 1 fig. 272 that are
made up of protuberances incorporated
in the tread thickness.When the tread pattern is reduced to
the level of the warning protuberances,
they become visible 2 fig. 272: you
need to replace your tyres because the
tread depth is approximately1.6 mm
and that means low grip on wet roads.
An overloaded vehicle, travelling too
long on highways, in very hot weather
or driving on bumpy roads contributes
to deteriorating the tyres faster.
INFLATION PRESSURE
Respect the inflation pressure (including
the spare tyre), check it at least once a
year and before any long trips (see the
label located on the driver's door pillar).
The pressure must be checked with
cold tyres: do not consider higher
pressures that could be reached during
hot months or after hard driving. If tyre
pressure checking cannot be done with
cold tyres, increase the pressure 0.2 to
0.3 bar (or 3 PSI).
Never deflate a hot tyre.
Vehicles equipped with TPMS: in case
of under-inflating or puncture, the
warning light
on the instrument
panel turns on. Refer to the “TPMS –
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System”
paragraph in the “Safety” chapter.

The use of larger sized tyres than the

mean a maximum speed limit that may
be less than vehicle’s maximum speed.
Studded tyres

This type of tyre can only be used for a
limited period determined by local laws.
You need to respect the speed limits
imposed by local laws in effect.
These tyres can be fitted on at least
both front wheels.
In any case, it is advisable to
contact a Fiat Dealership.
WARNING
206)Insufficient pressure can cause the
tyres to wear early and heat up abnormally,
with obvious consequences for safety;
poor road grip, risk of blow-out or treads
detaching. Inflation pressure depends on
the load and the speed. Adjust the
pressure according to the conditions of
use (see the label located on the inside of
the driver's door pillar).
207)For safety reasons, only a specialised
technician should carry out this operation.
Fitting a different type of tyre can alter the
vehicle's compliance with the regulations in
force, cornering performance, steering and
fitting snow chains.

208)For safety and to respect legislation in
force, when replacement is necessary, you
must only fit the same brand, size, type
and structure tyres on the same axles.
They have to have a load and speed
capacity that is at least identical to the
original tyres, or they correspond to those
recommended by a Fiat Dealership. Failure
to observe these instructions can
compromise safety and vehicle
compliance. Risk of losing control of the
vehicle.
209)If the tyres are "unidirectional", do not
switch tyres from the right-hand side of the
vehicle to the left-hand side, and vice
versa. This type of tyres can only be
switched from the front axle to the rear axle
and vice versa, keeping them on the same
side of the vehicle.
210)Never submit alloy rims to repainting
treatments requiring the use of
temperatures exceeding 150°C. The
mechanical properties of the wheels could
be impaired.
IMPORTANT
53)Some driving accidents, such as
"hitting the curbstone" can damage the
tyres and change the front or rear end
adjustments. In that case, have them
checked by a Fiat Dealership.
54)Caution, a missing or badly screwed on
valve cap could impact the tyre's grip and
cause a loss of pressure. Always use valve
caps that are identical to the original ones
and make sure that they are screwed on
fully.55)Snow chains cannot be fitted with 17”
tyres, you must obtain specific equipment
from the Fiat Dealership.
56)Snow chains can only be fit on tyres of
the same dimensions as those originally on
the vehicle.
57)If you want to fit chains, contact the
Fiat Dealership.
58)Keep your speed down when snow
chains are fitted; do not exceed 50 km/h.
Avoid potholes, do not drive over steps or
pavements, and do not drive long
distances over roads without snow, to
avoid damaging both your vehicle and the
road surface.

IMPORTANT Check the status of the
wiper blades. Their duraton depends on
proper maintenance:
clean both windscreen and rear
window wipers regularly with soapy
water;
do not use them when the
windscreen and rear window are dry;
detach them from the windscreen or
rear window if they have not been used
for a long time.

If it undergoes correct service, the
vehicle can last longer. Therefore, we
advise you to regularly see to servicing
the exterior of your vehicle.
The vehicle takes advantage of the
most advanced anti-corrosion
technology. However, it is subject to
various factors.
Atmospheric corrosive agents.
Pollution (in cities and industry);
atmospheric salinity (coastal areas,
especially in warm weather);
seasonal weather conditions and
hygrometrics (salt spread on roads in
winter, street washing water, etc.).
Abrasive actions
Atmospheric dust, sand, mud, gravel
spattered from other cars, etc.
You need to take precautions against
these risk factors.
What not to do
Remove traces of oil or clean the
mechanical components (e.g. the
engine compartment), underbody,
components with hinges (e.g. inside the
doors) and exterior parts made of
painted plastic (e.g. bumpers) using
high pressure cleaners or by using
products that have not been approved
by the Fiat Dealership. This could cause
rust or poor operation.Wash the vehicle in the sun or at low
temperatures.
Scrape off the mud or dirt without first
softening it with water.
Allow dirt to build up on the exterior.
Allow rust to form on damaged parts of
the body.
Dissolve spots with solvents not
approved of by Fiat service; they could
damage the paint.
Drive in snow or mud without washing
the vehicle afterwards, especially the
wheel arches and underbody.
What to do
Wash your vehicle frequently, with the
engine stopped, with shampoos
approved by our Fiat Dealer technicians
(never with abrasives) and rinse
thoroughly with sprayed water:
resin from trees or industrial
substances;
mud, which forms a wet mass under
the wheel arches and underbody;
bird guano, which causes a chemical
reaction with the paint, causing rapid
discolouring and can even cause the
paint to detach;
you must remove these spots, as
over time, not even polishing will
remove them;
salt, especially in the wheel arches
and underbody, after driving on roads
where anti-ice substances have been
spread.Regularly remove resin, leaves etc., that
have fallen on the vehicle.
Respect the local laws concerning
washing vehicles (e.g. do not wash your
vehicle in the road).
To prevent damage to the bodywork,
keep an adequate distance from other
cars in front when you drive on gravel.
If the paint is damaged, retouch it
quickly to prevent corrosion from
forming.
If the vehicle has an anti-corrosion
warranty, do not forget to have it
checked periodically. Please see the
Scheduled Service Plan.
If you have to clean the mechanical
parts (e.g. hinges), you need to have
the protection renewed by using
products approved by the Fiat
Dealership.
IMPORTANT We have selected
products specific to maintenance
available at Fiat sales points.
Versions with matt paint
This type of car requires a few
precautions.
What not to do
use wax-based products (gloss);
polish vigorously;
use automatic car washers;
wash the vehicle with high pressure
cleaners;
apply stickers to the painted surfaces
(they might leave traces).
