Remote No Longer in Vehicle Alert
If the vehicle is on with a door open,
and then all doors are closed, the
vehicle will check for RKE
transmitters inside. If an RKE
transmitter is not detected, the DIC
will display NO REMOTE
DETECTED and the horn will chirp
three times. This occurs only once
each time the vehicle is driven. To
turn on or off seeVehicle
Personalization 0145.
Keyless Trunk Opening
Press the touch pad on the rear of
the trunk above the license plate to
open the trunk when the RKE
transmitter is in range.
Key Access
To access a vehicle with a dead
transmitter battery, see Door Locks
0 44.
Programming Transmitters to
the Vehicle
Only RKE transmitters programmed
to the vehicle will work. If a
transmitter is lost or stolen, a
replacement can be purchased and programmed through your dealer.
The vehicle can be reprogrammed
so that lost or stolen transmitters no
longer work. Any remaining
transmitters will need to be
reprogrammed. Each vehicle can
have up to eight transmitters
matched to it.
Programming with Recognized
Transmitters (Keyless Access
Vehicles Only)
A new transmitter can be
programmed to the vehicle when
there are two recognized
transmitters. To program, the vehicle
must be off and all of the
transmitters, both currently
recognized and new, must be
with you.
1. Place the two recognized
transmitters in the front
(automatic transmission) or
rear (manual transmission)
cupholder.
2. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle.
See Door Locks 044. Insert
the vehicle key of the new
transmitter into the key lock
cylinder on the outside of the
driver door and turn the key to
the unlock position five times
within 10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center
(DIC) displays READY FOR
REMOTE #2, 3, 4, or 5 etc.

3. Remove the recognizedtransmitters and place the new
transmitter into the cupholder.
4. Press ENGINE START/STOP. When the transmitter is
learned, the DIC will show that
it is ready to program the next
transmitter.
5. Remove the transmitter from the cupholder and press
Kor
Qon the transmitter.
To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 3–5.
When all additional transmitters
are programmed, press and
hold ENGINE START/STOP for
12 seconds to exit
programming mode.
6. Return the vehicle key back into the transmitter.
Programming without Recognized
Transmitters (Keyless Access
Vehicles Only)
If two currently recognized
transmitters are not available, follow
this procedure to program up to
eight transmitters. This feature is not available in Canada. This
procedure will take approximately
30 minutes to complete. The vehicle
must be off and all of the
transmitters you wish to program
must be with you.
1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap on the driver door handle.
See Door Locks 044. Insert
the vehicle key of the
transmitter into the key lock
cylinder on the outside of the
driver door and turn the key to
the unlock position five times
within 10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center
(DIC) displays REMOTE
LEARN PENDING,
PLEASE WAIT.
2. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays PRESS ENGINE
START BUTTON TO LEARN
and then press ENGINE
START/STOP.
The DIC will again show
REMOTE LEARN PENDING,
PLEASE WAIT. 3. Repeat Step 2 two additional
times. After the third time all
previously known transmitters
will no longer work with the
vehicle. Remaining transmitters
can be relearned during the
next steps.
The DIC display should now
show READY FOR REMOTE
# 1.
4. Place the transmitter in thefront (automatic transmission)
or rear (manual transmission)
cupholder.

local regulations for any
requirements.

performance of the transmitter. See

Starting the Vehicle
To start the engine using the remote
start feature: 1. Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle.
2. Press and release
Q.
3. Immediately after completing Step 2, press and hold
/for at
least four seconds or until the
turn signal lamps flash. The
turn signal lamps flashing
confirms the request to remote
start the vehicle has been
received.
When the engine starts, the parking
lamps will turn on and remain on as
long as the engine is running. The
doors will be locked and the climate
control system may come on. The engine will continue to run for
15 minutes. After 30 seconds,
repeat the steps if a 15-minute
extension is desired. Remote start
can be extended only once.
Turn the ignition on to drive.
Extending Engine Run Time
The engine run time can be
extended by another 15 mintues,
if during the first 15 minutes
Steps 2 and 3 are repeated while
the engine is still running. An
extension can be requested
30 seconds after starting. When the
remote start is extended, the
second 15-minute period is added
on to the first 15 minutes for a total
of 30 minutes.
The remote start can be
extended once.
A maximum of two remote starts,
or a single start with an extension,
is allowed between ignition cycles.
The vehicle's ignition must be
turned on and then back off to use
remote start again.
Canceling a Remote Start
To cancel a remote start, do one of
the following:
.
Aim the RKE transmitter at the
vehicle and press and hold
/
until the parking lamps turn off.
. Turn on the hazard warning
flashers.
. Turn the vehicle on and then off.
Conditions in Which Remote Start
Will Not Work
The remote vehicle start feature will
not operate if:
. The key is in the ignition (Key
Access) or an RKE transmitter is
in the vehicle (Keyless Access).
. The hood is not closed.
. The hazard warning flashers
are on.
. The malfunction indicator lamp
is on.
. The engine coolant temperature
is too high.
. The oil pressure is low.

.Two remote vehicle starts, or a
single remote start with an
extension, have already
been used.
. The vehicle is not in P (Park).
Door Locks
{Warning
Unlocked doors can be
dangerous.
. Passengers, especially
children, can easily open
the doors and fall out of a
moving vehicle. The doors
can be unlocked and
opened while the vehicle is
moving. The chance of
being thrown out of the
vehicle in a crash is
increased if the doors are
not locked. So, all
passengers should wear
seat belts properly and the
doors should be locked
whenever the vehicle is
driven.

Warning (Continued)
.Young children who get into
unlocked vehicles may be
unable to get out. A child
can be overcome by
extreme heat and can suffer
permanent injuries or even
death from heat stroke.
Always lock the vehicle
whenever leaving it.
. Outsiders can easily enter
through an unlocked door
when you slow down or stop
the vehicle. Locking the
doors can help prevent this
from happening.
To lock or unlock the doors from
outside the vehicle:
. Press

Use the key in the driver door .
The key lock cylinder is covered
by a cap.
To lock or unlock the doors from
inside the vehicle:
. Press
QorKon the power door
lock switch.
. If equipped with Keyless Access,
pushing down the manual lock
knob on the driver door will lock
all doors.
. Pull the door handle once to
unlock it. Pull the door handle
again to unlatch it.

Keyless Access
If equipped, the RKE transmitter
must be within 1 m (3 ft) of the trunk
or door being opened. Push the
button on the door handle to open.

Driver Door Key Lock Cylinder
Access (In Case of Dead
Battery)
To access the driver door key lock
cylinder:
1. Insert the key into the slot on the bottom of the cap.
2. Lift the key upward to remove the cap.
3. Insert the key into the cylinder and turn to unlock.

To replace the cap:1. Position the bottom edge of the cap under the lower edge of
the metal piece (5). The tabs
(6) attach to the metal piece (5)
at the positions (4)
2. Rotate the cap upward and install into place.
3. Check that the cap is secure.
Free-Turning Locks
The door key lock cylinder turns
freely when either the wrong key is
used, or the correct key is not fully
inserted. The free-turning door lock
feature prevents the lock from being
forced open. To reset the lock, turn
it to the vertical position with the
correct key fully inserted. Remove
the key and insert it again. If this
does not reset the lock, turn the key
halfway around in the cylinder and
repeat the reset procedure.
Power Door Locks
Q: Press to lock the doors.
K:Press to unlock the doors.
Delayed Locking
This feature delays the locking of
the doors until five seconds after all
doors are closed.
If equipped with Keyless Access,
delayed locking can only be turned
on when the Unlocked Door
Anti-Lockout has been turned off. When
Qis pressed on the power
door lock switch while the door is
open, a chime will sound three
times indicating delayed locking is
active.
The doors will lock automatically
five seconds after all doors are
closed. If a door is reopened before
that time, the five-second timer will
reset when all doors are closed
again.
Press
Qon the door lock switch
again or press
Qon the RKE
transmitter to lock the doors
immediately.
This feature can also be
programmed. See Vehicle
Personalization 0145.
Automatic Door Locks
When the doors are closed, the
ignition is on, and the shift lever is
moved out of P (Park) for an
automatic transmission, or the
vehicle speed is above 13 km/h
(8 mph) for a manual transmission,
the doors will lock.

If a vehicle door is unlocked, and
then opened and closed, the doors
will lock either when your foot is
removed from the brake or the
vehicle speed becomes faster than
13 km/h (8 mph).
To unlock the doors:
.Press
K.
. For automatic transmissions,
shift the vehicle into P (Park).
. For manual transmissions and a
keyed ignition system, remove
the key from the ignition when
parked.
. For manual transmissions and a
pushbutton start system, turn the
vehicle off when parked.
The automatic door lock feature
cannot be disabled. Automatic door
unlocking can be programmed.

Lockout Protection
Key Access : When locking is
requested with the driver door open
and the key in the ignition, all the
doors will lock and the driver door
will remain unlocked.
This can be manually overridden by
pressing and holding
Qon the
power door lock switch.
Keyless Access : When locking is
requested with the driver door open
and the engine is running or the
ignition is in ACC/ACCESSORY, all
the doors will lock and the driver
door will remain unlocked.
If the vehicle is off and locking is
requested while a door is open,
when all doors are closed the
vehicle will check for RKE
transmitters inside. If an RKE
transmitter is detected and the
number of RKE transmitters inside
has not reduced, the driver door will
unlock and the horn will sound three
times.
This can be manually overridden by
pressing and holding
Qon the
power door lock switch. Unlocked Door Anti-Lockout
Keyless Access :
If Unlocked
Door Anti-Lockout has been turned
on and the vehicle is off, the driver
door is open, and locking is
requested, all the doors will lock and
the driver door will remain unlocked.
Push the lock button on the door or
the RKE transmitter a second time
to lock the driver door. The
Unlocked Door Anti-Lockout feature
can be turned on or off. See Vehicle
Personalization 0145.
Safety Locks
The rear door safety locks prevent
passengers from opening the rear
doors from inside the vehicle.

Manual Safety Locks
The safety lock is on the inside
edge of the rear doors. To use the
safety lock:1. Move the lever forward to the lock position.
2. Close the door.
3. Do the same for the other rear door. To open a rear door when the safety
lock is on:
1. Unlock the door by activating the inside handle, pressing the
power door lock switch,
or using the Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) transmitter.
2. Open the door from the outside.
When the safety lock is enabled,
adults and older children will not be
able to open the rear door from the
inside. Cancel the safety locks to
enable the doors to open from the
inside.
To cancel the safety lock: 1. Unlock the door and open it from the outside.
2. Move the lever rearward to unlock. Do the same for the
other door.
Doors
Trunk
{Warning
Exhaust gases can enter the
vehicle if it is driven with the
liftgate, trunk/hatch open, or with
any objects that pass through the
seal between the body and the
trunk/hatch or liftgate. Engine
exhaust contains carbon
monoxide (CO) which cannot be
seen or smelled. It can cause
unconsciousness and even death.
If the vehicle must be driven with
the liftgate, or trunk/hatch open:
. Close all of the windows.
. Fully open the air outlets on
or under the instrument
panel.
. Adjust the climate control
system to a setting that
brings in only outside air
and set the fan speed to the
